PD-logo listed as fair use[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering whether I'm allowed to, in cases where this is accurate, change a clearly PD-logo image from using a fair use tag to using the correct tag. File:Ames Stores Logo Red.svg is what comes to mind, especially since File:Ames Department Stores logo.svg is largely the same thing, yet perfectly fine for Commons. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 00:26, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are. But don't worry about this one, since I've just done it for you. Nyttend (talk) 03:00, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyttend: Thank you! -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 14:47, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the red "template" message at the bottom of this article - as well as the link of David Taylor at the end of the article - (no such link exits). I cannot do this on my device. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 03:32, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's weird; those templates were linked in the very first revision of the page in 2009, yet they've never existed. I've removed them. I retained the link to Taylor per the first bullet of WP:REDDEAL. Nyttend (talk) 03:41, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translating from Wikipedia of a different language[edit]

Hi, I would like to create some articles on the English Wikipedia by translating some articles from the German/Chinese Wikipedia to English. Can I do that if I provide the same references to the English article as in the other Wikipedia (which could be in German/Chinese)? JACKINTHEBOXTALK 03:38, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JACKINTHEBOX Although it's preferred that refs are in English if possible, you can use RS refs in any language. Note that copyright rules vary between Wikipedias, which sometimes trips up translators Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:28, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly the notability requirements are different between different Wikipedias. Make sure that the article satisfies the enwiki requirements. Advice is available at WP:Translation. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:13, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks everyone. JACKINTHEBOXTALK 07:24, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake on wiki[edit]

I am referenced on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Dream

The information in the footnote is correct-- but it links to a DIFFERENT person with the name same name.

Footnote 17 ^ Anupama Jain, How to Be South Asian in America: Narratives of Ambivalence and Belonging (Temple University Press; 2011), looks at the American dream in fiction, film, and personal narrative such as Meena Alexander's Manhattan Music.

Also, I do not capitalize my name.

Can you help correct this?

Thanks so much! anupama jain, author of How to be South Asian in America

I've removed the link so it no longer links the name to the wrong person. --Jayron32 17:34, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to add a notification to article?[edit]

Hi. I'm new to editing English Wikipedia. I've little used Finnish wikipedia which has some differences with the editing tool, and I don't know how to use this. I found an article that refers several times to something within the article, without explaining anything about it. So I figure a notification should be added to point to it. So how do I add one? Something like "clarification needed" and then pointing that "entity XXX is not explained at all" 93.106.83.210 (talk) 19:42, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. Is {{clarify}} what you're looking for? You can use it by adding {{clarify|reason=[REASONHERE]|date=November 2018}} after a sentence. It's helpful for when there's a sentence that is unclear and needs clarification. I hope this helps you out a bit and if you need any further clarification or this is not what you were looking for let me know. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 20:00, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help![edit]

Hi, I don't want to be here anymore. Can you please delete my account?

@Emofangirl2: Accounts cannot be deleted. Just stop using your account if you don't want to be here. RudolfRed (talk) 21:24, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because Wikipedia content is licensed under the GFDL and the CC-BY-SA, all edits must be kept for attribution purposes, and so your account cannot be deleted. You do, however, have the right to vanish, which you can exercise by (1) requesting your user page (found at Special:Mypage) and subpages be deleted, by adding the {{db-userreq}} template to them; (2) requesting to change your username to something that is unconnected with you (possibly a random collection of letters and numbers); (3) never logging in to your account again. The "right to vanish" does not mean anyone has the right to a fresh start under a new identity. Anyone who wants to continue editing should request a change of username instead so edits can be reattributed. Sakura CarteletTalk 01:40, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
