Need someone to close an RfD discussion.

I had nominated George W. for discussion, but after reading the original RfD, I reconsidered and decided to withdraw this nomination. Can someone close the RfD as "withdrawn" please? [1] James-the-Charizard (talk) 00:14, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

 Done. Just so you know, writing in the thread that you're withdrawing the nomination is usually enough, it's just that sometimes admins don't get around to closing discussions that aren't 7 days old for a little bit. Hanau Airfield, 1954 & 1955

I was in the 20th Field Artillery Bn. and stationed at Hanau, flew training missions with our two pilots, I know their names. If you were the photographer, then you own the copyrights to the photos and we will gratefully accept images of them. Alternatively, if you are sure the photos were taken by a US Government or US military photographer in the course of his duties, the photos are in the public domain and we will also gratefully accept images of them. In any other case, the photos are still copyrighted by the photographer, and we can accept them only if you have become the owner of the copyright somehow, e.g. if you are the sole heir of the photographer. Possession of the actual photographs does not make you the owner of the copyright. Sorry about this. Copyright law is a mess, but we adhere to the law. To provide the images, first get the images onto a computer by scanning or photographing them, then go to Commons and click on the "upload" button at the upper right and follow the directions. After that, come back here and we can help you add them to the Hanau Army Airfield article. Wikipedia is a bit strange: we cannot accept your bare word for something like pilot's names. We need a reliable source. However, we do accept images, on the premise that an image serves as its own reliable source. -Arch dude (talk) 05:30, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Template test if another template is transcluded on a page

I am trying to figure out how to edit Template:Featured picture/sandbox to test if Template:Picture of the day is also transcluded on the file page and, if not, to add the file to Category:Featured pictures that have not appeared on the main page. @Coffeeandcrumbs: {{cite web}} uses magic LUA to see if its page is tagged with {{use dmy dates}}, but the technical details are way beyond me. There's more at Help talk:Citation Style 1/Archive 55#Self transclusion. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:42, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

@Coffeeandcrumbs: You need to use LUA to get the content of the page, then use LUA's text searching tools to find the wikitext. I can code up a template and module that can do this. It would probably give you syntax with LUA string patterns in it, however. Danski454 (talk) 11:20, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

@Danski454: I would appreciate it if you could. Note this template is placed on the local description pages for files located on Commons. Just want to point that out in case that has any effect. Danski454, is there a way you can think of to extract the date the local file page was created (not the date the file was created on Commons). Then use that date (which is almost always the date the picture was promoted to FP) as the sort parameter for the category. For example, for File:Alan Bean NASA portrait (S69-38859).jpg, we would want [[Category:Featured pictures that have not appeared on the main page|2019-06-28]]. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 18:40, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Danski454, thank you again. I pretty sure the following line should yield the candidate discussion page that led to the FP being promoted: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Alan Bean or returns "unknown"

The candidate discussion page has in it <noinclude>[[Category:Featured picture nominations]] [[Category:Featured picture nominations/June 2019]]</noinclude>. Is it possible to extract the "June 2019" from this line using {{If in page}} again and pass the month and year as the parameter for the first category we created. @Coffeeandcrumbs: I had to do a bit more coding, but now, if you put {{#time:Y-m|{{if in page|%[%[Category:Featured picture nominations/(%P+)|%1|2006-01-01|page=Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/{{{1|{{FULLPAGENAME}}}}}|sub=yes}}}} as the sort key, it should add a key like 2019-06. Unable to receive password reset email

Hi, my editor name is Scope creep My laptop gave up the ghost this morning I tried to send a password reset email but for some reason I am not receiving it. I need to get back on to Wikipedia as as soon as. I'm on the Acc team, although I haven't using it yet. I signed up about 4 weeks and was planning to start processing them, so I have been received the mailing list mail for the Acc team. For some reason I seem to get email from them, but not from Wikipedia.

The last edits I did were to the Valaree Rfa this morning plus several updates to articles on my talk page, and an entry to People of the Red Orchestra. Possibly might not be saved as at that point my laptop blew up. I'm currently using my pc but it has recently been rebuilt and has no profile migrated from Firefox from my laptop as yet. In fact it has nothing on it. I'm keen to get back on as quick as possible.

If you are not getting an email, that might suggest the email address you put in your Preferences under your account was not entered correctly. If you have noticed edits from your account even though you cannot log into it, that would suggest you were hacked and the email address was changed. In either case, I don't believe there's much you can do other than create a new account and identify it as a successor to your original account. @331dot: How are you? Yip that was me. I've since transferred my Firefox profile and it works fine. It definently is my right email address and i've not been hacked. I've been using it since 1994. When I try to change it, to the same address, it recognises it as the same address. It has still not arrived after about three hours. It stopped working about a year and a half ago, but like most things it is only needed when you need it. I can post an image of my preferences if you want. I'm back. I would like to get it fixed. Do Wikipedia admins do webex?scope_creep^Talk 14:13, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

@Scope creep: Mail from Wikipedia is sometimes stopped by spam filters. Check if your mail service has a spam folder. If you use an email client on your own computer then there may be a webmail interface with a spam folder for mails which are not passed on to your client. If you cannot receive mails from Wikipedia then consider setting another mail address. Comparison of webmail providers has many free providers. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:03, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

I can't offer a solution but just to say I have had the same problem recently. It seemed to happen when talktalk revamped their email service. Its not a junk screening problem unless talktalk are screening things out withiout let them get into my junk box.Talk talk have offered help but not actually provided any. Combined sentences and removed word

I changed a sentence in the article "Hircocervus" from:

"Umberto Eco refers to a hircocervus in his novel The Island of the Day Before. And so does Italo Calvino in his Invisible Cities."

To:

"Umberto Eco refers to a hircocervus in his novel The Island of the Day Before, as does Italo Calvino in Invisible Cities."

Because I was a classmate of his, I can tell you that George Washington was an alias. His name was really Harvey Schmedlap. This is intended to demonstrate why we need for you to provide a reliable source (WP:RS). That is based on the citation to a Daily Telegraph article (ref#4) that states "Spudulike, which was founded in 1974 in Edinburgh, was acquired by the British School of Motoring in 1982 from its founders, husband-and-wife team Barbara and David Leggate" and we can only go on what is published. Is there another authoritative source that show that he wasn't involved? Mikenorton (talk) 20:52, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Missing pipe, missing URL red warning

Helped My reference is Where should the pipe be placed and what is a pipe (supposing it doesn't conduct water)? How is the URL missing, when I see it right there?

This is a pipe: | . They're usually near the bottom left corner of keyboards. You need one in your reference, somewhere between "Pay" and "url". It changes your ref so as to produce this. Maproom (talk) 23:06, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
