July 5[edit]

Display[edit]

I've managed to inadvertently change my display so everything is shown larger. I guess I've activated some sort of accessibility option, but since I don't know how that happened, I can't see how to get back to a normal display. Any ideas? Cheers Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:00, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ignore above, I've found the zoom button and reset back to 100% from 130% Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:04, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

in the "Hugh Lupton" section - the name Hugh Ralph Lupton has OBE beside it - but (like the other OBE's on this page) it needs to be written in a smaller way. Please fix - I cannot get it correct. Thanks 175.32.82.245 (talk) 07:38, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done I've done that for you. I just copied {{post-nominals|OBE}} from lower down. You could have done the same. Dbfirs 07:49, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I want some screenshots[edit]

Hello everyone, Someone here with interface-admin and sysop groups? If yes, Can you take some screenshots of Gadgets tab in your preferences and send to me via an email? Thanks! ⇒ AramTalk 09:05, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@ئارام بکر: Check out MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition and Special:Gadgets maybe? These pages consist of a list of all enwiki gadgets and are visible to everyone. —RainFall 09:20, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
RainFall, enwiki don't have any related gadget to interface-admin and sysop groups? ⇒ AramTalk 10:23, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ئارام بکر: Correct. You are autoconfirmed so the only gadgets you don't have are the first two for users with rollback. The gadgets Twinkle, Navigation popups and MoreMenu give more features if the user is an administrator. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:14, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
PrimeHunter, In short, I want to create all useful gadgets on our Wikipedia by using other wikipeda's gadgets. Now we are created many of them from enwiki to ours one. And because of my rights (i am not in interface-admin and sysop groups) i can not to see that gadgets related to the two groups (if exist). Thanks! ⇒ AramTalk 12:41, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translate page[edit]

Hello,

I would like to translate a wikipedia page, which only exist in French, I want to do it in English to and maybe in other language after.

Could you help me, the wikipedia page I want in English is "iXblue wikipedia".

Kind regards,

Harry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harry096 (talkcontribs) 12:47, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is some guidance at WP:TRANSLATE. The French article is fr:iXblue: I'm not sure the references there are good enough to establish notability: at least some of them read rather like thinly-disguised press releases. Harry096, if you have a connection with the company you have a conflict of interest and should probably not create the article yourself. This applies particularly if you are a paid editor. My Article has been moved to Draft[edit]

My Article has been moved to Draft and I have been given reason as "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments". I don't know how can I make it live. Help me out so that I can get it back live. I have not taken any money from anyone. I have been following this person on social networking websites. I am impressed with him and that's why I created his Wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yaarann (talkcontribs) 13:04, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yaarann it's clearly not ready for article space, the refs are bare urls and include unsuitable sites like Amazon and IMDB Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:58, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yaarann Did this player actually play any professional games? The articles doesn't mention this at all. Most likely very notable, it does need cleanup. I've fixed the bare URLs, btw. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:11, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We have rules around paid editing that you need to follow. Also concerns have been raised that you have not written some of the article yourself so I have blocked the account in question until these are dealt with. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:53, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit conflicts with myself[edit]

I've been editing wikipedia for many years, but over the last few weeks, I've repeatedly been getting edit conflicts *with myself*. I hit publish, get the edit conflict warning immediately, cancel, and then can see my edit has actually happened. Is anyone else getting this, or know how to fix it? (Hohum @) 16:55, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yah I get those too User:Hohum. Not sure if we have a phabricator ticket about this yet. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:15, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There are several recent reports at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) with no mention of Phabricator. A search found phab:T225656 about double-clicking. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:11, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia game[edit]

I remember seeing a while back (and participating in) some sort of third-party site where repetitive Wikipedia/Wikidata tasks were gamified. E.g. you're presented with a page "I think that this is a picture of X person. Yes/no?" Does this still exist? If so, where is it? Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:45, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I found it! Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:47, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Does Wikipedia have short videos on how submitted articles are evaluated?[edit]

We are designing a library research online course at our university which will have two modules devoted to Wikipedia. One module will teach students how to use Wikipedia as a tertiary source. The other module will instruct students on how Wikipedia evaluates the accuracy of submitted articles. We are looking for a short video on the evaluation process. Can anyone give me any information or links to short videos about how Wikipedia evaluates articles? Thanks. adavidroth — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adavidroth (talkcontribs) 20:24, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The evaluation process is permanently backlogged – no wonder, it's a miserable job, trying to be polite about the piles of <expletive deleted> that get submitted. It seems unlikely that the reviewers have time to make videos of their work. But maybe you'll be lucky. Maproom (talk) 20:45, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if this is the sort of thing you're looking for, but this might be useful: File:Articleassessments.ogv. You could also try looking here: commons:Category:Instructional videos on using Wikipedia (basically a big list of videos on using Wikipedia - there may be something useful there), or maybe even try here.  Seagull123  Φ  21:11, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should these section titles be in italics?[edit]

Specifically, those in the article Philippine mythical creatures? It seems off. Could anyone please tell me if this is the case or not?--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:32, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No. Per MOS:BADITALICS, "a [foreign] proper name is usually not italicized". Clarityfiend (talk) 09:35, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would say mostly yes per MOS:FOREIGNITALIC. The section headings for creatures are foreign words which are italicised and not capitalised in the body of the article and so are not being treated as proper nouns and headings should be italicised. However the headings for sections about individual beings are foreign names which are capitalised in the body of the article, so the headings should not be italicised. It is not always obvious to me which is which and sometimes capitalisation and italicisation are inconsistent, eg kinara.TSventon (talk) 10:46, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And according to the "rule of thumb" at that part of the MOS, Aswang should not be ital but Bakunawa should. Which may look weird. Perhaps pick one form and stick with it. Leave as is may be as good as any change. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:01, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
