Template:Post-nominals or equivalent[edit]

Hi Folks, I have a Spanish cardiologist Fausto J Pinto who seems to have a list of post nominals after his name. Serious dude. Is there an equivalent of the above for Spanish or Portuguese folk or indeed any other folk that has a similar fellowships that can be presented as a post nom. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 11:39, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at your last edit those are not really "post-nominals" but positions; I think you were correct in removing them. Arguably those could be fitted in the workplaces field in {{Infobox academic}}, but meh. TigraanClick here to contact me 12:27, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tigraan: Possibly something for later, but not what I'm talking about at the mo. I'm looking for Spanish or Portuguese Post-nominals template. 'Template:Post-nominals' has collections for certain countries, but nowt for Spain of Portugal. Is there such a template. scope_creepTalk 20:18, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: OK. I guess you could always modify the template for es/pt awards if you know what those are. {{post-nominals}} itself is page-protected, but (looking at the code) all you need to do is create the appropriate country subpage. Looking at Template:Post-nominals/SRI for an example the format seems relatively simple. If you don't feel like doing it because it's too technical, give me a list of Wikipedia pages for the awards with their respective abbreviations and a ping and I will make the page. TigraanClick here to contact me 12:29, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tigraan: That is very nice of you and much appreciated. I admit it will take some of the load of. I can start with the medical ones I guess with the Portuguese group as they are probably the most relevant. I can check the appropriate articles and see if they are present. He has FESC, FACC, FSCAI and FASE. FESC is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, FACC is Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, FSCIA is Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and FASE is Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. For the Portuguese it will need to cover medical, military, chivalry and honours, government and parliament and miscellaneous, e.g. civil group. Taking a look at this: Orders, decorations, and medals of Portugal its basic listing with loads of medals. The one thing I found is some may seem notable but aren't e.g. when your Knighted in this country its not included in post-noms. So I think what will happen we can bundle it all in and see what needs to be pulled out later. Each one will need to be checked to ensure it is the correct acronym. scope_creepTalk 15:49, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: My understanding of {{post-nominals}} is that it only applies for government awards (linked to a specific country), so fellowships would not apply for the template; I also think they should not be included on policy grounds (we are not going to tack "PhD" as a post-nominal, virtually all researchers have a doctorate). Furthermore, I asked you for the list of (award, abbreviation) pairs precisely because I lack the ability to create the list myself; I can do the technical part if you cannot but reading stuff like Esquire makes me think it is easy to make a faux pas in that topic. TigraanClick here to contact me 09:35, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tigraan: Not just government awards. Take a look at the GBR one, e.g. FSA = FSA. These are independent education institutions for this example, so it is not only government gongs. I will do the list. It will take me some time though to check all the Portuguese honours. scope_creepTalk 11:11, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cross-wiki (Wikipedia/Wikiversity) rules[edit]

As I asked at Wikipedia:Fringe theories/Noticeboard#Wikiversity, Wikiversity:Motivation and emotion/Book/2015/Masturbation motivation is an obvious and transparent attempt to get something that looks exactly like a Wikipedia article but would not survive an AfD published on Wikiversity. Does Wikiversity have a rule against that? --Guy Macon (talk) 13:17, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Guy Macon: I suggest you ask Wikiversity, as it is a separate project with its own rules. Looks like the talk page for the main page is where questions are asked: [1]. RudolfRed (talk) 19:49, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please help[edit]

If anyone can please help. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleshlight

My grandfather was the developer named in this patent and all my revisions are being locked due to lack of sourcing...although the patent which proves is already included as a source. They are refusing to discuss on the talk page. Blocking me and the truth for sport of perhaps they are paid by Fleshlight. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:387:8:5:0:0:0:34 (talk) 15:04, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have protected the article. You must discuss this on the article talk page instead of edit warring. 331dot (talk) 15:08, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Article for review[edit]

I want to send my article for review, but i am not able to find an option that helps me do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vanshikasood0112 (talkcontribs) 17:50, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanshikasood0112: Welcome to Wikipedia. When you are ready to submit your draft for review, add {{subst:submit}} to it, and then click the button. RudolfRed (talk) 17:58, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help, but ia am not able to see the option for submission — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vanshikasood0112 (talkcontribs) 18:12, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you didn't read what RudolfRed said? You can submit by adding {{subst:submit}} to the top of your draft. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:38, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanshikasood0112: Just for clarification add the text as instructed and click 'publish' as per typical editing. This will submit the article for review. It will need some copy-editing to fall more in line with the manual of style. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Error in Tibet article[edit]

To whom it may concern

There is a serious error in the TIBET article which may indicate bias by the writer, since what the Wikipedia text says ("between 200,000 and 1 million Tibetans were murdered by Chinese military") is not what the cited article says ("between 200,000 and 1million Tibetans may have died"). Note that during the Great Leap Forward large numbers of people across all of China died from the effects of malnutrition, and from outright starvation (see the Wikipedia article "Great Chinese Famine").

I think the text of the article should match the citation, or else the citation should be changed to one which matches the text of the article.

Thank you in advance for your help. Philip Harris

DETAILS OF ERROR: Inaccurate text in the Tibet article, in the section titled "From 1950 to present"

Current text: "During the Great Leap Forward, between 200,000 and 1,000,000 Tibetans were murdered by Chinese military [62]"

Proposed fix: This should be changed to read: "During the Great Leap Forward, between 200,000 and 1,000,000 Tibetans may have died [62]" Note 62 cites "World Directory of Minorities and Indigenous Peoples - China : Tibetans". Minority Rights Group International. July 2008. Archived from the original on November 1, 2014. Retrieved April 23, 2014.

The actual text from "World Directory of Minorities and Indigenous Peoples - China : Tibetans" at https://www.refworld.org/docid/49749d3dc.html says: "Land reforms and the loss of the lamas' traditional power led first to unrest in eastern Kham and Amdo in the mid-1950s. The Great Leap Forward period (during which anywhere between 200,000 and 1 million Tibetans may have died) was also one during which there was growing disdain shown by Chinese authorities to the traditional Tibetan religious and political leaders such as the Dalai Lama."

Please discuss this on the article's talk page. RudolfRed (talk) 18:51, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The IP posted to Talk:Tibet#Misquoted text in Tibet article section titled "From 1950 to present" eight days ago with no reply. I have checked the source and made the suggested change.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 19:32, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Carolyn Ayers[edit]

Hello I stated a Wikipedia page but it is say it can't be found Carolyn Ann Ayers (Philanthropist) Inspirational Speaker and I uploaded my picture to put on my page but I not sure how to place it there. Can I get help with preparing my page.

Thank you Carolyn Ayers at <redacted>— Preceding unsigned comment added by Carolyn Ann Ayers (Philanthropist) Inspirational Speaker (talkcontribs) 19:11, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a full explanation of what happened to your user page at User talk:Carolyn Ann Ayers (Philanthropist) Inspirational Speaker. You seem to have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is and what it can be used for. Ask again here if you need guidance on creating articles. You might like to read WP:Your first article. (edit conflict)@Carolyn Ann Ayers (Philanthropist) Inspirational Speaker: Hello, unfortunately you seem to have misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia. It is not a place to create an autobiography or 'profile' as you would at social media sites. Wikipedia relies entirely on reporting what has been written about subjects that pass the notability guidelines in independent reliable sources. Please see here and here for why autobios are not encouraged.
If you are truly notable (in the Wikipedia sense) interested editors will create an article about you using independent sources in due course.
Note: that you appear to have found the user subpage you created and that it is currently nominated for deletion. It was the main user page that was misused, contravening WP:User pages. The user is now blocked. Dbfirs 07:05, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding user sandboxes[edit]

Even though I am not blocked (because I am asking this question), can blocked users still edit their own sandboxes? Just wondering. --Plankhouse0 (talk) 19:29, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Plankhouse0. A blocked editor is unable to edit any page other than their own user talk page. That includes their main userpage and any of their sub-pages including sandbox pages. If they misuse their user talk page, an administrator can revoke access. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:35, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
