Kerala Blockchain Academy[edit]

Hi, I have created a Wikipedia page for Kerala Blockchain Academy on 10th August. So far I have been successful in adding contents, links, citations, and image to the page. But how will I know the page inside my sandbox is submitted for review. Is there anything I should do more..something like moving my page from sandbox to some other territory to get it reviewed. @Itzanju: first, move it to Draft:Kerala Blockchain Academy. Then, add the following to the TOP of the article: {{subst:submit}}. This will add the button you need to submit it. When the article is ready for review, click on that button. It needs a fair amount of cleanup, especially the formatting of the references. HOWEVER: if you submit it now, it will likely be declined because it lacks the right kind of sources to demonstrate notability. Establishing notability is fundamental. How to change my User name[edit]

Hi I mistakenly added the incorrect user name. How can I change my user name? I searched it and couldn’t figure it out seems a bit complex. If anyone can help I gladly appreciate it. Could non-admin user vote on "Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard" proposals?[edit]

I always guess that boards is for admin decisions for users requests.
But listing archive since begin of this year I discovered "Support" and "Oppose" from ordinar users.
Does it mean that I, anonimous user, could take part in voting at ":Administrators' noticeboards"?

Proposals at Wikipedia:Administartor's noticeboard or elsewhere are not a vote. Its more like a Panel discussion with very many people (all who are interested) and yes, ordinary users are allowed and even encouraged to participate, as Wikipedia isn't "governed" by the admins here, instead, its sort of governed by the entirety of its users. [URGENT] Request additional information[edit]

Dear Help Desk,

In charge of communications for Jean Missinhoun, I've created a page to represent his biography: https://twitter.com/jean_missinhoun

I got a message that we have to add sources otherwise the page will be deleted in 7 days. I'm not sure what sources to fill in, I got all of the information directly from Jean through talking with him on the phone.

Also, the page is not visible in the Google search, does this have to do with the sources as well.

@Jesterschilderwrites: You need to disclose your employment by Missinhoun on your user page per the instructions I'm just about to leave on your talk page.
Phone conversations are not sources, you need to cite professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are specifically and primarily about Missinhoun. If non exist, then they are not notable and we will delete the article.
Wikipedia is not a place that does "profiles" nor a place for people to promote themselves (or pay others to promote them). It is a volunteer-driven summary of professional sources. Ian.thomson (talk) 11:27, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The thing to realise, Jesterschilderwrites, is that, as an encyclopaedia, Wikipedia has basically no interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or in what their associates, employees, or institutions say about them. It is only interested in what people who have no connection at all with the subject, and who have not been prompted or provided information by the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources - that is to say, organs with a reputation for editorial control and fact checking. It follows that information you have got from Missinhoun is almost irrelevant; and if it hasn't been published at all, it is completely irrelevant, because it is one of our core principles that all information in a Wikipedia article has been published somewhere reliable. --ColinFine (talk) 13:50, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And searching for him in News and Newspapers turns up nothing at all. Searching in books gives three references in journals, two of which are clearly interviews with him, and so are not independent. I can't see the page in African Business - Issues 305-315 - Page 6 so I can't tell the context in which he is mentioned there. Copying newspaper articles would probably be a copyright violation. If you satisfy Wikipedia's criteria of notability (and WP:notability (people)) then it is possible that someone could write an article about you. Please also note in future that the use of uppercase is treated as SHOUTING and regarded as rude. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:10, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations on your achievement, NANCY L. HENRY, but I'm afraid that Wikipedia is not the place for you to celebrate it. It is possible that you meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability - local politicians normally do not, but if you got significant press coverage then you might meet the general criteria for notability; but it should not be you or a relative or associate who writes an article about you, and the article will not belong to you, or necessarily say what you would want it to say.   • Last name of author
  • Firs name of author
  • Title of article
  • If the article is available online, the URL. If it's not availble online, that's ok.
  • Work in which the article appeared (so, name of newspaper or magazine)
  • Issue number (if available)
  • Publisher (if available)
  • Date of publication

How to move files to Commons[edit]

Disambiguation/redirection problem[edit]

I have added a new article on an Israeli Prof. of Physics named David Horn. The problem is that there’s already an article on a British historian named David Bayne Horn. So I have added the new David Horn as “David Horn (Israeli physicist)” and moved the other Horn to “David Horn (British historian)”. Now I need to make a disambiguation page that will link to both Horn’s. The page should of course be named “David Horn”, but when I tried to create it, I found that there’s already a redirect page named David Horn which leads to David Bayne Horn, the British historian. Not sure what to do next: can I replace this page with the disambiguation page? --Adig-pt (talk) 13:40, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I've highlighted on your talk page, paid editors shouldn't be creating articles straight into article space, and so I've moved the article you created into draftspace. @Adig-pt: If you believe that neither of them is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, then you could just replace the redirect with a disambiguation page. Just click the link where it says "Redirected from David Horn" and you can edit the redirect page. However, your page has been moved to draft space since you are a paid editor and such articles should go through the articles for creation process. So first go to Draft:David Horn (Israeli physicist) and click "Submit your draft for review" and wait for it to be reviewed. If and when it's been accepted, you can then create a disambiguation page. reliable sources for my article[edit]

I have gathered Pdf's of press newspapers and magazines that show reference to the person i am writing about in my article.

Matthewzilch That's not how it works. When composing your article, you add citations to the sources(see this page for instructions) along with the information. You don't submit them to anyone for preclearance or approval first. (edit conflict) @Matthewzilch: You don't. You reference the original publications. There is no requirement that the publications be online in order to be used as references. Please see WP:V. If you did find them online, then supply the URLs. If not, that's OK, but they must be theoretically available in some public place somewhere, (e.g., a library). If the publications are so obscure that no library holds them, then they are almost certainly not reliable sources. Newspaper and magazine articles do not need to be online. We do not need PDFs. As I told someone above, simply provide the following information for each article:
  • Last name of author
  • First name of author
  • Title of article
  • If the article is available online, the URL. If it's not availble online, that's ok.
  • Work in which the article appeared (so, name of newspaper or magazine)
  • Issue number (if available)
  • Publisher (if available)
  • Date of publication

Is there a way to find "extra" markup tags? I mean opening tags that don't have closing tags, something like the "small" tag that I removed in this edit because it didn't have a closing "small" tag. 64.203.187.85 (talk) 17:13, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see that one listed specifically, but if you go to WP:WCW and pick the "List of Errors" tab, it will show you lists of a whole load of syntactic errors that various tools have automatically found. Incorrect facts on the entry for GW Pharmaceuticals[edit]

A few weeks back I changes an entry on the the GW Pharmaceutical page in it it is claimed that;

{Later that year, GW Pharmaceuticals entered into a contract with HortaPharm B.V., a cannabis research and development corporation based in Amsterdam.[8] The company was founded by two expert horticulturists from California,[9] Robert Connell Clarke[10] and David Paul Watson, and grew and developed specialized strains of cannabis with permission from the Dutch government.[11][12][13][14] }

This is blatantly untrue Hortipharm B.V (NL) worked without a licence, although they did claim for many years that they had been issued a license from the Dutch department of health. This was a lie, they did have a forged license which they used to supply Dutch cannabis seed companies with seeds and to convince the police they were 'legal'. This was ended when a Pharmaceutical company (possibly GW Pharma) contacted the Dutch government, their department of health would stated 'it has not' giving a licence and no one from any other Dutch government department would admit to giving out any such licence. The Dutch government issued a statement to the effect that Hortipharm did not and never had had a 'legal licence'. G W Pharmaceuticals are well aware of the criminal origins of Hortipharm B.V (NL) One of it's directors Having fled the US with a false passport to escape a DEA charge in 1985. This is all public knowledge and can be confirmed via the Dutch government. It is no coincidence that cannabis seed production stopped at this point or that the Dutch cannabis seeds companies had to go to spain and Switzerland to produce seeds once the truth of Hortipharms non licence was revealed!

My correction has been corrected back to the false claim and a moderator has stated I need citations to back up my claim I am not an academic a researcher or even well educated so I am unsure where to start. However 'IF' Hortipharm NL had a licence than that licence has a number and this number should be included in the claims made it is not. I request that until Hortipharm NL, GW Pharmaceuticals or the Dutch government 'Confirm the licence number' this claim should be removed from the G W Pharmaceuticals listing because at the moment it effects the credibility of wikipedia's facts!

Please discuss this on the article's talk page (Talk:GW Pharmaceuticals), not here on the help desk, and notify the reverting editor of the discussion so you can reach a consensus. If there is an assertion in the article that is not cited to a reliable source, you may remove that assertion. If an assertion is cited to a press release by the company, then that is not a reliable source and you are free to change the wording to add soemthing like "the company claims that..." We do not require that an assertion be cited to primary sources, and in fact we deprecate primary sources in favor of published reliable secondary sources, so we will not honor your request to cite a gevernment document. -Arch dude (talk) 17:56, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

wiki text to avoid line split before a comma[edit]

While reading an article, I noticed that a comma started a line. This happened only when my browser window was a certain width, so that the comma wouldn't quite fit on the previous line. When I looked at the wiki text, I saw that the comma immediately followed a <math>...</math>, element.

I "solved" the problem by moving the comma into the math element. It looks OK, but the comma really is not part of the mathematical expression. Is there a better way of doing this?

@Comfr: According to MOS:MATH#PUNC, it's correct on the same line as the formula. Fourier transform is an example. While it suggests placing it inside the math tags or outside and wrapping the whole thing in {{Nowrap}}, a better alternative to the template might be just to add &nbsp; before the comma. I think I've seen a preference for it being inside the math tag so as to be in the same (generally larger, bolder) font, though I don't know why. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 03:09, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
