how to uploads PDFs to an article[edit]

Hi, I've edited an article on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Met_Foods and would like to upload three PDFS as supporting documentation so the PDFS are visible in the article and can be opened/viewed through the article. I managed to upload the PDFS into what seems to be a Wikipedia repository after going through the vetting process to ensure the content is legally uploadable. Now, how do I find those uploads and move them on to the page I worked on? Thanks for your assistance.

What is the content of those pdfs? Unless they are photographs, they may not be suitable for use here. Sometimes folks get the mistaken impression that they can upload newspaper clippings, for example, which in addition to (often) being copyright violations, are not reliable sources because in this era of Photoshop, anybody can alter a "scan of a clipping" to say anything they want. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:55, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the background.They are corporate reports from Met Foods from 40 to 70 years ago that provide support for the text, and fuller history, of this company. In short, they, and the text that should be on this Met Foods page, much more factually tell the story of this company that's been around for the better part of a century. The few paragraphs now on the page are a sliver of this company's history and simply ignore decades and decades of the company's founding, early progression, and innovative impact on the history of grocery shopping in the New York area.

In short, yes, Wikipedia has rules. I get that and understand that. They should not impede on telling this company's story legally, completely and intellectually. The story I posted is far superior and supportable. It was taken down.

If the PDFs have not previously been published by a reliable source they can't be used to support a Wikipedia article. If you want to publish information about the company's history there are countless web-hosting companies that you can choose from. --David Biddulph (talk) 02:18, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think I made a big mistake on changing a name of an article[edit]

Hi. I tried to change the name of an article, List of unrecovered flight recorders to List of unrecovered and unusable flight recorders but I believe I did it wrong, it deleted every single contribution on the original name. Hello, BanFakeNews. Bear in mind that, since promotion of any kind is not permitted in Wikipedia, Wikipedia basically has no interest in what the subject of an article says or wishes to say about itself: it is only interested in what people unconnected with the subject have chosen to publish about it, unprompted by information from the subject. (Note that in Wikipedia "promotion" is not restricted to commercial endeavours). If as you say "news about the ATRF is scant", then it is very unlikely that it meets the criteria for notability, and no article about it will be accepted however written. Please make the file of Dr John Snow (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Snow.jpg) much smaller (shrink) than the photo of Thomas Michael Greenhow - whom the article is about. How can I create and edit maps on articles?[edit]

I'd like to help improve some election articles by contributing maps with the election results shown by location on a map (like this)

I don't know which article this is about, so I can't give you a link, but for each article, there is a talk page. There is a link somewhere on the page (usually near the top) that says soething like "Talk" or "Discussion". Click on that link and add a new section with your suggested change to the article, just like you did here. You will need to provide an independent, published, reliable source, like a newspaper article, that can be cited in the article to verify your assertion, as personal knowledge is not useful here for other editors and readers to verify statements. I presume that you're asking about Draft:Kim Foon. It says "Draft article not currently submitted for review." So you haven't requested a review. You can do so; but if you do so for the article while it's in anything like its current state, your draft will be declined. Every assertion in the article must be referenced; currently, not a single assertion in the article is referenced. @Umma123: Please read WP:YFA if you haven't already. Note that everything that is not common knowledge needs to be CITEd, especially in a biography. See WP:ERB for a quick tutorial on how to insert those cites once you've found them. This is an important issue and will keep the article from being accepted.

There are also a couple of Manual of Style issues. Please also take note of ~~WP:BOLD~~MOS:BOLD – all the bold markup needs to be removed, except for the Kim Foon at the beginning of the first sentence (the "lead"). Also, MOS:DASH says that number ranges should be separated by an en dash (1992–1993) instead of a hyphen (1992-1993). (see the link for how to create the character if you're not familiar). @Umma123:, you have now made some fixes that were easy to make, and added a short list of references. I clicked on one of them, to "Yale University Art Gallery". It's a good reference for a claim that this one work by Kim is at the YUAG -- and that's all. So immediately after the sentence or list item that makes this claim, you should add something like <ref>"[https://artgallery.yale.edu/collections/objects/90006 Artist: Kim Foon, Korean, born 1924: Wingo]". I am writing in regards to am enquiry. I run and own a web site called Liverpool Sound and Vision which deals with arts reviews, and which I so pleased to see quoted on many occasions on Wikipedia. I was wondering how one goes about having a page written. I also enquire as being a writer, as well as a reviewer, I have had two novels released, The Death Of Poetry and Dark Chrysalis, with two more novels to come in the next 15 months, as well as three books of poetry.

I am aware I cannot do this myself but wondered how to put the information up on line.

Thank you for asking. When there numerous reviews or articles about your works are published, it's likely that somebody will want to create an article about you. There's really no way to encourage article creation (other than by paying some company to do it -- not a good idea, because even if the company delivers, the resulting article will invite deletion, ridicule or both). There is a way to suggest creation of an article: in Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By profession. Hello, Ian. It's not a silly question: thank you for asking rather than plunging in and trying to write about yourself. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a place for telling the world about things (that's called promotion, and is forbidden. If there is ever an article about you or your website, the article will not belong to you, you will have no control over the contents, and it should be based almost 100% on what people unconnected with you have chosen to publish about you, in edited, reliable places, not on what you have said or published, or what you want said. If you can find several sources which will establish that you or the website meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then an article could be written: you are discouraged from writing it yourself because you are likely to find it hard to meet the standard for neutrality; but you are not forbidden. If you can find them, it might be worth seeing if anybody in WikiProject Arts or WikiProject Merseyside would be interested in writing an article; if you cannot find such sources, then any further time and effort that you or anybody else put in will be wasted. --ColinFine (talk) 13:10, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article about Liverpool Sound and Vision would require that the subject itself, Liverpool Sound and Vision, is notable by our definition, which means you would need to find reliable sources that discuss it, while avoiding Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). I have often thought that we need articles, perhaps in a dedicated namespace, for sources that are used in multiple articles but that do not meet our notability guidelines, but that is not currently the case. -Arch dude (talk) 15:00, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Named references[edit]

In COVID-19 pandemic in Tamil Nadu, there are bunch of named refs added at the bottom. There was a big table before(as a template), which used most of them. Now the table is moved out of the article. Most(about half) of those refs are not used anywhere in article as inline citations. Once I remove everything, is there a BOT that rescues only the used named refs from previous revisions? Word Counter for GOCE[edit]

Hello! I recently joined the GOCE and I recently made my first edit for the Backlog elimination drive. One of the instructions for the Backlog elimination drive is to download a word counter and then enter the number of words before you edited the article. I followed the instructions to install the word counter and I can’t find “Page size” on the toolbar on the left. Did I download the word counter correctly? How to use one source multiple times[edit]

In the Meowth article, I noticed the citation needed at the articles beginning, I found that the sources needed were already on the article, as they were referenced later on. If you want to try anyway, see "How to write articles that won't be rejected or deleted" in this guide I wrote. We're not a social media network, we're not a resume hosting site, we're not a place to promote your career.
