Checking for the same name of companies profile[edit]

I discovered that there was a television company in America with the same name as an Italian currently active. The American one has been closed. It is called Wine TV. How can I do not to create confusion between the two broadcasters and insert the one at the operational moment? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.13.123.245 (talk) 07:29, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The operational company should probably be at the title "Wine TV" while the closed company could be at "Wine TV (American company)", unless there are circumstances with which I am not aware that might warrant both pages having disambiguations in the title. Note that Wikipedia does not have "profiles", it has articles. 331dot (talk) 07:32, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, IP user. If you are considering creating an article about the Italian company, I advise using the articles for creation process to create a draft, and not worrying about the name for now. When the draft is submitted for review, and accepted, then the editor who accepts it will sort out the naming. Please be aware that creating a new article is a very difficult task for an inexperienced editor, and should start with finding suitable sources to demonstrate that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, because if it those sources do not exist, there is no point in trying. More information is at Help:Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 08:30, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the name of a page[edit]

Hi,

The F&W Media International page (we were F&W Media International) needs to be renamed to just David & Charles Ltd - how can we do this without individually going through the whole page to rename it all? Thanks! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by SophieD&C (talkcontribs) 09:41, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SophieD&C To change the actual title, you need to request a page move at Requested Moves. The article text will need to be changed itself.
If you work for David & Charles, you will first need to read the paid editing policy and make the required declaration. You should also review conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 09:47, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to have been done already. Was it done after the above was posted?Spinney Hill (talk) 07:49, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think you missed my question[edit]

Nobody answered my question "How to turn off beta function" yesterday, maybe you missed it because I replied to it myself.DonGuess (talk) 13:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't miss it, DonGuess. I had nothing useful to say to it so I didn't. What is your purpose in posting this further item? --ColinFine (talk) 15:17, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DonGuess: I'm guessing the question was "how do I remove something from User:DonGuess/common.js, the answer to which is that you go to that page and edit it, more or less like any other Wikipedia page. I see you also linked to another (presumably related) discussion there. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 21:51, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikitext help requested[edit]

I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look here. I would like to disembolden the two bulleted paragraphs.

Less importantly, I would prefer additionally to have the present italics / not italics swapped – in other words, all text (including the lead paragraph) to be not in italics, other than the initial words (in effect, "headings") of the two bulleted paragraphs. Is that possible?

Looking forward to benefiting from your advice. Cheers, Simon – SCHolar44 🇦🇺 💬  at 20:18, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:PD-because does not mention any way of controlling the formatting. SCHolar44, and looking at the source seems to confirm that. If the template doesn't do what you want, you will either need to persuade a template maintainer to add something (on the template's talk page) or take your own copy of the template and change its code. --ColinFine (talk) 15:23, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Colin -- I'll follow up your suggestion. Cheers, Simon – SCHolar44 🇦🇺 💬  at 20:18, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Irfan baniya, and welcome to the Teahouse. There is no point in posting proposed content here: it is unlikely that anybody will do anything with it. If you want to create an article, see Your first article. But be aware that writing an article is difficult, and starts with finding reliable published sources, which you should then cite in the draft article. --ColinFine (talk) 15:27, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Are these external links appropriate?[edit]

I noticed in De'VIA#Notable De'VIA works, each paragraph links to an external site to show the artwork being described. Is this an appropriate use of inline external links? Also, seeing as three of the links were broken, I went looking for new sources, but two of them are hosted on blogspot. Is that acceptable to link to? My concern is whether some of these may be violations of the artists' copyrights. Only one that I could see had a proper copyright notice. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:35, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to get Administrator job[edit]

Looking to get a administrator job in order to create articles and upload files but want to know how to get administrator job — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vivian934 (talkcontribs) 17:49, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vivian934: To be an administrator, you generally need to have a years-long track record here. But you don't need to be an administrator to upload files and create articles. That only requires being autoconfirmed (10 edits and 4 days' experience). See WP:AUTOCONFIRM for more info. 151.194.65.68 (talk) 18:04, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Vivian934: You don't need to be an admin to create articles or upload files. An adminstrator on Wikipedia is more like a janitor that gets to clean up other's messes. It requires a large amount of experience on Wikipedia. See WP:RFA for some of the guidance. RudolfRed (talk) 18:05, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

add new photo to place[edit]

I have recently shot new photos for a house and wanted to update the exterior photo for the page. How do I do that?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaw_House_(Shawboro,_North_Carolina)

Thanks - Dan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.170.119.28 (talk) 18:49, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First, you will need to upload the photos to Wikimedia Commons, agreeing to to release them under the appropriate copyright license. After you have uploaded them to Commons using the upload wizard, Commons will present you with the appropriate Wikicode for including them in the article. Edit Shaw House (Shawboro, North Carolina) and add them to the article. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:15, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with the name of an article[edit]

Courtesy link: École Française Anatole France

Hello,

I need to change the name of the article because our company's name has changed. Who should I ask for help. As a contributor I cannot move the article and change the name myself. I tried the talk page but it lists the groups that have made the page and no one precise person I can contact for this edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ltevos (talkcontribs) 19:13, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ltevos, assuming that it isn't a controversial move you can ask for a technical move request. It seems with your claim of our company, you work for said company, and as such are required to disclose your paid editing on your user page ({{Paid}} is generally used). In cases like these it's strongly encouraged for you to submit edit requests on the article's talk page instead of editing it directly yourself. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Image cropping[edit]

So, if I find an image on Commons that I want to use in an article, but I don't want to use the whole image, is there any way to instruct the software to display a cropped version without my having to download, crop, and reupload the cropped image? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 23:08, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ONUnicorn: Maybe {{CSS image crop}}. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 01:15, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request to edit[edit]

Hi, I want to edit pages. But I don't want to create an account or log in for personal reasons. How can I be autoconfirmed? 2601:1C2:4E00:B89:D079:95A0:153D:FC43 (talk) 23:20, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You need an account to be autoconfirmed. If you are unable to edit pages due to page protection, you can leave edit requests on the articles' associated talk pages. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:34, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that creating an account is even more anonymous than editing as an IP. There's no proof of identity or anything like that required, and your contributions are associated with that name instead of an IP address that lets people see where you are and who your ISP is. There are other benefits of registering, too, like all sorts of helpful gadgets and being able to customize various aspects of page appearance. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 01:21, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of the Update flag on "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit filmography" page[edit]

A banner was placed in August 2017 on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_the_Lucky_Rabbit_filmography suggesting that it be updated because of a new book had been published. It has been updated and there are a plethora of references to said book.
