December 26[edit]

Hi I accidentally published my draft page with Draft: in the title. I'm not sure how to remove it.[edit]

Climate change misinformation editing[edit]

I read a BBC article posted on Facebook about a group of Wikipedia editors who work to identify and correct climate change misinfo on Wiki. I would like to be part of that. Who do I contact and/or how do I apply to become involved? Thank you. Harold Sturgis — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.99.153 (talk) 16:51, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Have a look at WP:WikiProject Climate change: you'll find other people interested in the subject there. --ColinFine (talk) 17:10, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Convert issue[edit]

Is there a way to make {{convert}} at Pali-Aike volcanic field's 4,500 square kilometres (1,700 sq mi) spell out the sq mi as well? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:11, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Yes, according to Template:Convert/doc, To spell out both in and out values, use |spell=on -- John of Reading (talk) 17:22, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tried that, didn't work. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:28, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: If you want the values as figures and the longer form of both units, that's {{convert|4500|km2|mi2|abbr=off}} --> 4,500 square kilometres (1,700 square miles) -- John of Reading (talk) 18:03, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't work either. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:31, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jo-Jo Eumerus, I think it does work. The conversion is in the lead and again in the "Geography and structure" section - were you looking at the wrong one? I changed the second convert, so now the sq mi is spelled out in both places. MB 20:41, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Probably... Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 21:40, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Highlighting bad or questionable ref[edit]

Im new to Wikipedia, but i want to highlight a questionable wiki reference. I want to add the "who?" as in "who said that?", that i often see in articles around here. What code do i have to use for that? Thx. - Joaquin89uy (talk) 19:14, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

{{who}} * Pppery * it has begun... 19:28, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are a bunch of maintenance templates that work like that, as well as template redirects. There is a {{what}}, {{huh?}}, {{by whom}}, {{who?}} and {{whomst}} as well. jp×g 16:53, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate category[edit]

The relevant talk page has a note to the effect that few people look at it and one should raise any query here. This is mine: there is a Category:People convicted for homosexuality in the United Kingdom, but it is inaccurate. Nobody has ever been convicted in the UK for being homosexual: it is not and never has been illegal. What was illegal until the reforms that began in the 1960s was homosexual activity. The category would be accurate if it were changed to People convicted for homosexual offences in the United Kingdom. Strictly speaking that should be "Men who" rather than "People who", as there have never been any anti-gay laws affecting women, but "People" will do, perhaps. Tim riley talk 19:54, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tim riley. I think WP:CFD is the best place to open that discussion. (Personally, I'm not troubled at all by the inaccuracy in the title, but equally I won't be bothered if it is changed). --ColinFine (talk) 20:03, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Tim riley the category doesn't say "Convicted for BEING homosexual", it says "for homosexuality" which includes homosexual activity. That said WP:CFD is the right place to formally nominate it. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 10:13, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It should be remembered that some of the "men" convicted during that era may have been trans women, a category not recognized by most of society at the time. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:04, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Add logo to new article[edit]

I have written an article on Monmouth Coffee Company and am trying to add their logo to the infobox. Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard seems to need a file with its own web address, which I don't have as I found the logo in svg format, attached to their website https://www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk/ . It is text only so it should be public domain, but possibly not suitable for Commons. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? TSventon (talk) 19:56, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be https://www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk/wp-content/themes/monmouth/library/images/logo.svg, TSventon. In any case, you can download it to your computer and upload it from there. --ColinFine (talk) 20:06, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ColinFine, thank you, I have got the following error messages, which I don't understand. When linking to downloaded copy

Hello again, TSventon. Beats me. If WP:SVG help doesn't help, I suggest asking at WP:VPT. --ColinFine (talk) 21:00, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ColinFine, thank you again, I will try that tomorrow. TSventon (talk) 21:17, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked at Wikipedia:SVG help#Monmouth Coffee Company logo. TSventon (talk) 12:25, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TSventon: I downloaded the logo and used it in the Commons SVG Checker[1]. The output says "ERROR in <image> with id=_x31_myvyR_2_: Image has xlink:href with external source. They will not work (and may be blocked) by the Wikimedia software. All required elements need to be included into the SVG directly. See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T5537 for details." So that's the problem but I'm not an expert to provide the solution, so the SVG helpdesk is still your best bet. @TSventon: (forgot to sign last time) Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:05, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Mike Turnbull and ColinFine. SVG helpdesk told me "it seems that your SVG contains a raster graphic that's linked, not embedded" and I have now uploaded a png copy. TSventon (talk) 16:16, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Magic word for template name[edit]

Is there a magic word that returns the template name, including namespace (ie the namespace:name of the template that is currently being resolved)? I know I can hard-code it, but the template may change location, or change name, or be copied, and I don't want to have it break if that happens. --Verbarson talkedits 22:05, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Verbarson. I can't find anything about this in either Help:Magic words or mw:Help:Magic words, so I expect the answer is No. WP:VPT would be the place to ask further. --ColinFine (talk) 22:34, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can use Module:TEMPLATENAME. ({{#invoke:TEMPLATENAME|main}} -> Wikipedia:Help desk/Archives/2021 December 26) * Pppery * it has begun... 23:41, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TEMPLATENAME works beautifully. Thank you both. --Verbarson talkedits 22:34, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sort key problem[edit]

I noticed that in Category:Characters created by Jerry Siegel and Category:Characters created by Joe Shuster, Superboy appears at the start of the alphabetical list under the "*" sort key. While I'm familiar with sort keys, it didn't make sense to list Superboy alphabetically before all the other characters Siegel or Shuster created, so I went to the Superboy article to see about fixing the sort key for these categories near the end of the article. However, when I looked in the wikitext, I couldn't find Category:Characters created by Jerry Siegel or Category:Characters created by Joe Shuster listed among the article's categories at all. How is Superboy showing up in the categories for Siegel or Shuster's characters when those categories aren't listed in the wikitext? --Metropolitan90 (talk) 23:48, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The categories are added by {{Infobox comics set and title}} called with:
{{Infobox comics set and title
...
|writer1 = [[Jerry Siegel]]
|artist1 = [[Joe Shuster]]
...
}}
The sortkey with * in front is made in Template:Comics infobox sec/creatorcat by J Greb who hasn't edited since 2017. The asterisk was added in [2] with edit summary "Update" like nearly all their edit summaries.[3] I have no idea why they added the asterisk, maybe a misunderstanding about something. I will remove it if nobody else can think of an explanation or removes it first. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:28, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This apparently has to do a complicated template function that I don't understand, so I will leave it to your discretion to fix. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:50, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the asterisk.[4] Superboy now sorts as expected. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:33, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aftifa[edit]

When I read your explanation of Antifa I AM ANGRY AS HELL....Antifa (/ænˈtiːfə, ˈænti(ˌ)fə/) is a left-wing anti-fascist and anti-racist political movement in the United States. I AM A DEMOCRAT AND A PROGRESSIVE 'WE ARE NOT ANTIFA YOU ARE SCREWING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY BY POSTING THESE LIES YOU NEED TO CORRECT THIS NOW OR AN IMPEDING LAW SUIT WILL PREVALE. Yes the left are anti racism and anti Fascists, We have NEVER PROMOTED VIOLENCE. YOU NEED TO FIX THIS NOW — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:E590:17D0:8429:5B60:15C:939C (talk) 23:48, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what they were complaining about. Do they think we claim Antifa (United States) is Democratic (as in the party) by saying that Antifa is left-wing anti-fascist and anti-racist? That makes no sense. More than one group can be those things. Or were they claiming that Antifa aren't those things? PrimeHunter (talk) 01:04, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ignore the drive-by. They're not gonna follow up; they just want to provoke us behind the GIFT. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 08:16, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
