Changing background color in a row of a table[edit]

I would like to highlight a row in seats table of Opinion polling for the next Dutch general election. Actually, the last row (2017 election). currently it reads |- style="background:#E9E9E9". When I change that to e.g. |- style="background:#808080" nothing seems to change. --FantinoFalco (talk) 03:17, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@FantinoFalco: I fixed the table in this edit to ensure the style command is on the same line as the data you want changed. Now if you change it to #808080, you'll see a change (which looks too dark to me). Happy editing!

@FantinoFalco: Oh, sorry! I thought you wanted different cells in the bottom row to be different colors. Looks like you originally had the code correct per Help:Table#Color; scope of parameters. Hopefully another editor can jump in and help. GoingBatty (talk) 04:37, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate Comment[edit]

In the section titled 'Board Member Behaviour' PatraKing has left a comment that is reflective of victim-blaming and rape-culture. This makes it unsafe for women and victims of sexual assault. What is the best way to deal with this? I am particularly concerned given this is connected to a training model about keeping people safe from harrassment. Merging + re-creating original page?[edit]

I would like to merge most of the contents of the page Sahar, Yemen into Sahar District, since they mostly are about the district, which is completely unrelated to the town (they're in separate governorates). I would then like to re-create a page for the town. The merge process itself is daunting enough, but I'm especially hesitant to create the merge target as a separate article again. Are any extra steps required to do so after merging a page?

@3 kids in a trenchcoat: Nothing special that I know of. Just document what you are doing on both talk pages. I don't think you even need to do a technical merge (history merge, etc.) Just copy/paste the material to be moved from the town inot the district with the appropriate edit summary and then delete that material from the town article,and then continue to improve the town article. -Arch dude (talk) 06:11, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a Street map with marks for London Wall[edit]

Hi! I have been looking through the different map options wiki has and I think the Street map with marks template would offer the best solution for the London Wall page as it would directly reflect on the data within Wikidata. The template, however, doesn't have an example I can understand to link directly to a dataset within Wikidata. It would be great if anyone could outline what needs to be written to create this, create an outline of the code on the page itself, or if a more detailed example outlining how to directly link to a data entry within Wikidata could be added to the template so I can follow it I would be extremely grateful! @Jamzze:, There's an example of a medieval wall plotted onto a modern streetmap at Template:OSM Location map#Alternative marks, with a description of how to do it at User:J. Johnson/OSM overlay how-to. That doesn't do the "link to wikidata" thing you're asking about, but I thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't found it yourself. @Rizosome: Hello and thank you for pointing this out. As noted it has been 'fixed' by PrincessPersnickety but as they pointed out you could easily have done so yourself. You have been here for nearly three months now and have almost 400 edits but only 2 to mainspace. It is not necessarily a bad thing to ask lots of questions, but the help desk is here to tell you 'how' to do things, not really for editing requests. Getting experience by editing is probably the best way to learn. Do not worry too much about making mistakes; most of us did (and still do!) – as long as you remember what was 'wrong' for future reference. Cheers. I fixed the broken cite template in 2021 in baseball (it was missing a title= before the title), and the broken link it contained. Hopefully that was the error you were talking about. Is WikiSource a reliable source?[edit]

An anonymous editor added material to the article Finland under Swedish rule, with this source from WikiSource. Is this allowed? Can WikiSource be used as a reliable source? JIP | Talk 22:50, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisource basically republishes public domain texts. It is not itself the source, the source would be Svea Rikes historia, the document Wikisource is hosting. I don't know if Svea Rikes historia meets reliable source guidelines or not, but I see nothing wrong with providing the Wikisource link to it as a convenience to the reader. It's like, YouTube is not a source. It hosts videos from other sources. If CNN (a reliable source) posts a clip to YouTube, CNN is the source, not YouTube. Struments against vandalism[edit]

Dr Salvus I don't know much about fighting vandalism: I have a watchlist and I revert vandalism on pages I watch, without using any special tools. I can point you to Wikipedia:Vandalism, but you have hopefully found it already. It links to Wikipedia:Twinkle and Wikipedia:RedWarn, neither of which have I used.
