Create a Well Know artist page[edit]

How can i create a page for the Artist Ghost u like it i love it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghost543211 (talkcontribs)

@Ghost543211: You're going to want to read WP:YFA, but if you're writing about yourself, this probably isn't the venue for you. Wikipedia has no interest in promoting artists. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:37, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

hi there - can i post this copy on the site?[edit]

Kenneth Ross Meiklejohn (snip)

I've removed the bulk of the article; it's still visible in history. The answer is, "Not without a strong third-psrty source for EACH AND EVERY SINGLE claim."A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 04:08, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Although cited sources are critical, notability is even more important. If your subject is not notable by our definition (WP:N), then the article will be rejected or deleted, no matter how well sourced it is. See WP:AMOUNT. -Arch dude (talk) 14:42, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Given the length of what they initially posted, complying with WP:BLP would pretty much have satisfied WP:N. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 14:58, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In today's world, a Google search will often turn up dozens of references for almost anyone, and almost anyone can write multiple paragraphs about themselves based on such references. This does not establish notability. -Arch dude (talk) 17:59, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

wiki editor is EXTREMELY SLOW[edit]

is easier to use wiki editor suppose to be EXTREMELY SLOW? it takes forever to load and is basically un-usable. can't even edit

is it suggested to use that editor or default one?

pls answer on my page so i can see it, or else i wont able to see what you say, thx GovGuide (talk) 05:04, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GovGuide: You should be able to see my reply here, as you don't appear to be using any of the mobile apps. Which wiki editor are you using? The visual editor, or the source editor? If this is in regards to Tourism in Indonesia, I wouldn't be surprised; the editor has to load 133 kb of code and transclude multiple templates that seem size-heavy themselves. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:23, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

is there a label for something is that is EXCESSIVELY LONG[edit]

 – Merging with above. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:25, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Indonesia

this is crazy and completely unreadable, it's so extremely long

is there a label template thing for this, pls answer on my page os i can see it, or else wont be able to see answser thx — Preceding unsigned comment added by GovGuide (talkcontribs)

Answered at user talk:GovGuide. Mjroots (talk) 05:49, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno. Donald Trump is more than 3x as long as Tourism in Indonesia. Of course, Donald Trump is excessively long. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:28, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chem[edit]

Why is fullerene said to be C60?

Because it has sixty carbon atoms. See fullerene. Please note this page is for questions about editing Wikipedia. If you have further general knowledge questions the best place to ask them is the reference desk.--Shantavira|feed me 08:17, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

iF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO DONATE[edit]

Very new to this and tried a smple gramatical change then this user 'Melcious' starts deleting stuff and puts up a template conflict of interest staright away. I have no conflict of interest and it looks like she is pretty gung ho. Do not make assumptions, if you want people to use this site and try and make contributions dont go down hard on them. I used to donate but if you treat your customers like crap then who cares. This is a mistake from this user. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mysteriousmusicman (talkcontribs)

MysteriousmusicmanI'm sorry you have become frustrated. It's not required that you contribute in order to participate here; that's why it's called a donation. If you have no conflict of interest, please simply and calmly inform the other user of that, and explain the reason behind the changes you made. Some of them did seem like they might not have been in an encyclopedic style, but if you have a good reason for them, we want to hear what they are. The article you edited seems to be a target of conflict of interest related editors, so please understand that other editors might react that way at first, but almost all users here will correct themselves when politely informed. 331dot (talk) 08:36, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

thank you but i have explained it and people keep putting it back up — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mysteriousmusicman (talkcontribs)

Mysteriousmusicman The COI notice is not necessarily targeted towards you. 331dot (talk) 09:22, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

the wiki people are not lsitening to me, they keep reverting it back, there is something very wrong, i do not know this person and the template is incorrect — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mysteriousmusicman (talkcontribs)

Mysteriousmusicman Please sign your talk page posts so we know you wrote them; I've provided instructions on your user talk page. As I said, the COI notice is not targeted towards you. Others are editing the article with a COI. 331dot (talk) 09:29, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You, like many other people, seem to be under the misconception that the donations go to Wikipedia editors to write Wikipedia article content. This is not true at all. None of us editors ever see a single cent. We are all unpaid volunteers who do this on our free time because we like it. The donations go to the WikiMedia Foundation to keep the servers up and running to make all this possible. JIP | Talk 12:12, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also suggest that you aren't a customer of Wikipedia. Wikipedia has quite a high ceiling of entry, so sometimes things like this can come across differently to how they are meant. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:17, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about comment[edit]

Someone had added this comment in the Deaths section in the article 1986 on 11 September 2017:

Please do not remove your image through quadrouple image yourself, non-notable people, fictional character or without Wikipedia articles to the lists. No red links, Please! Thanks!

I fixed it by copying it from the Births section:

Please do not add yourself, non-notable people, fictional characters, or people without Wikipedia articles to this list. No red links, please.

However is the first part really necessary? I don't think it's possible for anyone to add their own death to Wikipedia. JIP | Talk 12:10, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe "add people you are related too". I'd suggest adding this to the talk page, or a suitable WikiProject talk. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:19, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
JIP, I could add reports of my death to Wikipedia, but they would hopefully be greatly exaggerated. TSventon (talk) 13:59, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article is not approved[edit]

Hello,

I created a wiki page according to all requirements, but the page is not published and three error messages are showing: 1) this page needs to be fixed according to wiki standards 2) written style is not right 3) needs more hyperlinks to other sources At this moment I am stuck because in my opinion everything is written correctly..

Can someone please help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rudyte (talkcontribs)

You created your page on the Lithuanian Wikipedia. Please ask there. Each language version of Wikipedia is its own project and has its own rules. I'm sorry I can't help you further on the Lithuanian Wikipedia as I don't understand Lithuanian. JIP | Talk 12:17, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rudyte: I don't know Lithuanian but I can say that the page is published. The message boxes are added and removed manually. They were added 18 June [1] by Homo ergaster. At the English Wikipedia we call them cleanup tags or maintenance templates, not error messages. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:14, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

reordering citations[edit]

Does anyone know of a script that will put all instances of citations that aren't separated by text in an article into numerical order and keep them that way? Every time I work on an article I end up having to reorder them when I'm finished, and then as soon as someone else comes along, they end up out of order again. It's tedious. —valereee (talk) 13:47, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Valereee: If ever you find one, let me know. This seems something that a bot could be programmed to do. I'm very guilty on the charge specified with all the various lists of shipwrecks. Trouble is, I'd take me twice as long as it does now if I was to keep reordering references every time I add in entries from a new source, so I leave them. Mjroots (talk) 17:11, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gosh, a bot for this would be even better than a script! I wonder if there's any downside to a bot doing it? —valereee (talk) 17:15, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see an issue, maybe with notes and the like, or if someone puts in pages after a ref... But I'd suggest going to WP:BOTREQ Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:12, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee: - one downside I can see is that bots reordering references in heavily edited articles can lead to edit conflicts. I would suggest a condition being built in to the coding that the bot performing the task does not edit an article that has been edited in the previous 24 hours. Mjroots (talk) 18:38, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee: AWB used to reorder references, until Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 136#RfC: AWB bot ref reordering. GoingBatty (talk) 19:25, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty, oh, very interesting! So probably a script so people could opt in would be better? Or at minimum a bot that could be instructed to ignore an article. —valereee (talk) 19:38, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee: Note that a "bot that could be instructed to ignore an article" was discussed in the RfC. GoingBatty (talk) 19:46, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see that...and I see the arguments against numerical order, which aren't things I'd really considered. Pretty isn't everything. :) —valereee (talk) 20:05, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that RFC was five years ago. Consensus can change. Mjroots (talk) 11:48, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

how can add informatio on A K sharma Page[edit]

I know the A K Sharma. He is my sir. Sir Tell me change their page accordingly kindly give me the permission to edit this page,— Preceding unsigned comment added by Dalchanddc22 (talkcontribs) 13:47, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dalchanddc22: Right now A. K. Sharma is protected due to the addition of unsourced information. Here at the English Wikipedia, we follow strict rules when it comes to biographies of living people. If you want to add new information to the page, they must be supported by reliable sources and must adhere to the neutral point of view policy. Also, if you know the subject you are writing about, I recommend you read the conflit of interest policy. Having read all that, you can request an edit and another experienced editor will help you. Withdrawing thanks[edit]

My finger slipped and inadvertently THANKED a previous editor who 1)got his facts wrong, and 2)tried to "school" me about his nonfact. (Luckily someone else corrected it.) I don't thank such people, and I want it REMOVED, ASAP. Zephyrad (talk) 16:01, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Zephyrad: According to H:THX, you cannot undo a "thanks". The best you can do is leave a message somewhere explaining you did not mean to thank that person. Isabelle 🔔 16:05, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Even though it offered a "cancel" option, which I hit as many times as I could before it WENT IN ANYWAY?! What a joke. Any such message I'd leave would make me sound rude. Wow. Zephyrad (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

switching between languages[edit]

Dear Wikipedia Team, While switching the language between English, German, Armenian etc., the language bar on the left side stands. But when I switch to Turkish, the bar disappears. Could this be my explorer? I a using WaterFox (like Firefox)

best ik

It's possible that the Turkish Wikipedia uses the new Vector skin by default, which puts languages by the top-right corner. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:49, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's it, French WP does the same. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:10, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

a user making single character edits - reaction?[edit]

I've noticed that Ssgg12 has made add single character (apparently all space) edits to unrelated articles over the course of a month or so. This seems odd to me, I'd like suggestions on how to react.Naraht (talk) 19:25, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Naraht: You could start creating a post on the user's talk page and ask them why they are making those edits. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:41, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems harmless. Maybe Ssgg12 is unaware of how to add articles to their watch list, so adds them to their contributions list. I wouldn't worry about it. Maproom (talk) 19:49, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a New Page[edit]

Hello,

We made edits in our sandbox but not sure if it was submitted properly to create a page for Max Schachter. How do we know if this was done right and when will we know if what we posted is approved?

Please let us know and appreciate any help we can provide.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Carol Chenkin (talkcontribs)

Carol Chenkin Who is "we"? There should only be a single person operating your account. You have not yet formally submitted the draft, but if you did, it would be rejected quickly, because it has no sources to support its content. A Wikipedia article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to state about a person, showing how they meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable person. Please read Your first article. 331dot (talk) 20:02, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Carol Chenkin: You just asked this question at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Creating a New Page, where you received several answers. Please don't ask the same question in multiple locations.. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 20:07, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Not quite sure if this is the right place but I’ve been participating in AfD discussions specifically the Africa music-related ones and came across this article Ghana DJ Awards which has a deletion log. Is it possible for me to work on it, seeing that it was created by a banned editor? -Xclusivzik (talk) 21:06, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is, and thanks for offering to do this work! Contact the admin who deleted it (Ivanvector) and ask her to restore it to your userspace, unless you want to start from scratch. Since the article was deleted like four years ago (and not on the merits of the material) you shouldn't have any trouble republishing it if it meets the usual standards. If Ivanvector deosn't reply, go to Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles and ask anyone. Herostratus (talk) 21:21, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Herostratus Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t mind starting from scratch. I will work on it in draftspace and then put it through AfC. -Xclusivzik (talk) 21:52, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
