llghtchlld Spelling (help)[edit]

Hello,

My name is Alex, and I am llghtchlld's assistant, and also the person who created the page for llghtchlld. (I hope I'm posting in the correct place for the help desk this time!)

I was wondering if it was possible to change the main title of llghtchlld's Wikipedia page to the correct spelling. (with the i's as l's) This spelling of the i's replaced with l's is not a stylization, it is the actual spelling of llghtchlld's name, and it is the way that her name is spelled throughout her online presence. The purpose of this was to be distinct from other artists with the name "Lightchild".

I know that Wikipedia has very strict policies when it comes to spelling and formatting, but please let me know if it is possible to make this spelling correction, and avoid confusion surrounding her name online.

Hi User:Loveisthevision. No it's probably not possible, but you can try if you want, and you never know, I could be wrong. The procedure for this is to go to Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting a single page move (we call renaming a "move" here) and follow the instructions.

Pretty sure your request won't be accepted. I'm not sure that it isn't a stylization. "llghtchlld" looks like an affectation to me, and isn't formed as English words (and names) are, and is thus unpronounceable. Even Welsh words that start with a double-L have a vowel right after. If it's still pronounced "lightchild" them I'm pretty sure it's a stylization. It also starts with a lower-case letter which we don't do except in special cases, at least for article titles.

Yes for bell hooks and eBay etc we make exceptions. Because those entities are famous, thus their name appears in many sources, which mostly use their stylizations, thus the reader will expect that.

For less famous sources, not so much. IMDb does have "llgtchild" but Deadline has "Lightchild". Some people use a stylization that a fair amount of sources don't follow, so we don't either. Article names should be the form of the subject's name that's most usual in English-language sources. The wishes of the subject are irrelevant. Of the four sources cited in the article, the first use both versions, the second uses neither, the third and fourth both use "Lightchild". So "Lightchild" is the appropriate name for the article. Whoever offered you that "opportunity" is not endorsed in any way by Wikipedia. As far as I can see, you do not meet the WP:BIO requirements, and any article about you would be deleted. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:58, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You got scammed. Wikipedia does not "offer" any "opportunities" to anyone. Whoever made you that offer is either illegitimately taking advantage of Wikipedia, or just blatantly lying to you. If any article gets created, it will not belong to you and you will not have any control over it. Most likely the article will soon get deleted. Legitimate Wikipedia articles are written by independent Wikipedia editors on their own decision, without any input from their subjects. JIP | Talk 12:44, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help with my project[edit]

I have been trying to make a wiki page regarding a game dev "Tanner Rozankovic" my submission was declined 2x then rejected permanently, for not being notable enough but recently Tanner Rozankovic has been back in the spotlight of the media and press, now making him worthy of a wiki page. Frankly, the drafts you created were so bad that you've kind of poisoned the well on this one, trying to create an article too soon in his career. I'd suggest concentrating on other, more useful kinds of edits, then waiting until you've got some genuinely solid sources not coming from this guy or anybody associated with him before proposing that somebody else write an article. @Charles W Taylor Jr: you may or may not be notable. The notability guidelines for academics are a fairly high bar: see WP:NACADEMIC. If you meet these guidelines, someone (preferably not you: see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY) could write a Wikipedia article about you. If such an article existed, it could be added to that list. In the past, someone might have added you to the list if they felt that an article about you was warranted even if that article did not yet exist, but we have moved away from that practice.-Arch dude (talk) 15:47, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have no personal interest in this topic, but I wonder if appointment to the Senior Executive Service (United States) is in itself sufficient to confer notability? If so, someone (not the subject, preferably, and not me) could create a valid article and wikilink it to the Rice list.

For the benefit of Charles W Taylor Jr, we should explain that we do not accept or require copies of Primary documents such as certificates to verify such matters; what we would require is a published, independent secondary reliable source (such as mention in a Government journal or similar) of the appointment. It's helpful if such sources are online, but not essential – so long as they can be consulted in, say, a good library, citation of their bibliographical details are sufficient.

It is not clear that appointment to the senior executive service is sufficient to establish notability. It appears to be equivalent to the military rank of "general", which is not by itself enough to establish notability. I think we are forced to use WP:GNG here (i.e., find enough coverage in the general press). I personally find it irritating that it's harder to establish notability for academics than for professional athletes or Pokemon characters. -Arch dude (talk) 23:38, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

Is it possible to remove an article, that was created by me, but accidently wasn't since it was created by someone else. What happened is when I've added the tags unsourced and orphan to the article Warriors of Mahabharata, an editor nominated the article for speedy deletion and send the article was nominated for speedy deletion in my talk page in this message User talk:MoviesandTelevisionFan#Speedy deletion nomination of Warriors of ahabharata. What I saw in the article, it said it was created by me, when I've added the tags. It happened when I've added the tags and a editor moved the article to draft, at the same time [1], could be seen in this log. Then, a system flagged me that I recreated the article. But the article was originally created by "Hitwitsit. MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk) 19:31, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I really wouldn't worry about it, (and I do not know how to do what you've requested) it's not some big black mark on you, ~~as i said anyone can see that you actually just moved it.~~ (ok that's not quite what happened, but it still isn't a big deal) As you may have noticed, I did go ahead and delete though as WP:A10. Article Edit?[edit]

Dear Wikipedia, I am not good with computers/Internet. I’m at Wikipedia article NNS Thunder (F90) - Wikipedia. It’s the Wikipedia USCGC Chase page/article. (For clarity, the US Coast Guard Cutter Chase was transferred to the Nigerian Navy in 2011 as the “NNS Thunder” and that’s the name of the ship that comes up when you go to the USCGC Chase Wikipedia article.) I was a crewmember in the 1970s. On this Wikipedia page/article, in the ship’s “history” section for the 1970’s, there is an omission/discrepancy from the official US Coast Guard USCGC Chase history from which it seems most of the Wikipedia article is taken from.

The existing Wikipedia paragraph of concern is the 4th paragraph down from the heading that reads “Vietnam and the 1970s” which reads; “Between 1974 and 1978, Chase continued to patrol the waters of the Atlantic. Chase visited Spain, Morocco, Ireland, and France.”

But, on the official Coast Guard website ship’s history page, under the heading “Cutter History”…4th paragraph down), i.e. Chase, 1968 (WHEC 718) > United States Coast Guard > All (uscg.mil)……..http:www.history.uscg.mil/Browse-by-Topic/Assets/Water/All/Article/2090238/chase-1968-whec-718/. That equivalent US Coast Guard 4th paragraph reads:

In 1973, Chase also participated in Operation Seaconex, an exercise with a screen of seven destroyers and an amphibious assault ship, helicopter (LPH) carrying anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters and Harrier vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jets protecting a convoy from air, subservice and surface threats. Between the years of 1974 to 1978, Chase continued to patrol Atlantic and Mediterranean waters. So, an accurate Wikipedia edit of record in conjunction with the official C.G. Chase website page, http:www.history.uscg.mil/Browse-by-Topic/Assets/Water/All/Article/2090238/chase-1968-whec-718/....would read: Between the years of 1974 to 1978, Chase continued to patrol the waters of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. Chase visited Guantanamo Cuba, Spain, Morocco, Ireland, France, England and Italy. In 1976, while on a cadet cruise, Chase rendezvoused with and came under the command of the attack carrier USS America and was involved in Operation Fluid Drive during The Lebanon Crisis of 1976 which ultimately resulted in the evacuation of nationals from the beach after the assassination of two U.S. officials in Beirut, Lebanon by the landing ship dock Spiegel Grove In 1977 Chase was among the cutters assigned to protect a part of the U.S. exclusive economic zone (EEZ) created as a result of passage of the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, protecting the area from Cape May, New Jersey to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina from foreign encroachment. @Bknp1: Thank you very much for pointing out these discrepancies. We are all volunteers, and the help desk denizens may not be the best folks to correct the article. I suggest that you try to edit the article yourself. Yes, I know it's scary, but be bold (WP:BOLD). If you mess it up, the worst that can happen is that you will be reverted. You have just as much responsibility and authority for that article as the rest of us. Just do it!
