How to document/reference results that were calculated from multiple sources?[edit]

I'm working on articles related to battery performance. The article Sodium-ion_battery has a table for comparing battery types, and one of the rows is "Specific Power". I want to improve that with better sources and up-to-date values. For lithium-ion batteries, I can find multiple sources that provide the raw data necessary to calculate a range of values for specific power. Calculating the actual value for the table requires that I use that raw data and do some math. Not only are there multiple kinds of battery types (within the lithium-ion category), each with their own spec sheet, but sometimes I need to refer to multiple sources for the same battery in order to collect all the necessary information.

There's no original research here. No opinion, just math, and data from multiple sources. How do I document/reference my process? Leotohill (talk) 00:07, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Leotohill: If I were you, I would add the sources next to the figure, and use footnotes {{efn}} to explain the process and how you are using the different sources. (See Template:efn) Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 00:35, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I added a file - but the subject of the article's name should be inside the info box (it is currently on top of the info box) and I think the file (photo) should be smaller too. Please help - thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 03:18, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The name is above the infobox because that is how this infobox was designed. The photo is at the default size, so I see no need to change it. I did fix the syntax so the appropriate caption is displayed under the photo. MB 03:30, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User page[edit]

I am a editor on Bangla Wikipedia. How can I replace my English Wikipedia's User Page by my meta user page. Thank you. ShazidSharif (talk) 06:27, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see you figured out how to request deletion of User:ShazidSharif with {{db-self}}. The page has been deleted so the meta page shows. {{db-u1}} could also have been used. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:10, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MY PAGE WIKI[edit]

Dear All

Here are several times that I modify my wiki page this information is important for those who want to know more about my career. Systematically after several days my page returns to the situation before my modifications which I nevertheless validated ... I don't understand what's going on can you help me please?

I send you a print screen of the modified page which no longer exists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leclerc2020 (talkcontribs) 07:54, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Leclerc2020 It's not your "wiki page", but a Wikipedia article about you. If you are Mr. LeClerc, you should avoid directly editing the article, but you may visit Talk:Bernard Leclerc to make a formal edit request(click for instructions) detailing changes you feel are needed, for an independent editor to evaluate. Please review the autobiography policy. 331dot (talk) 07:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to Archive links?[edit]

I see in references that some links are archived, along with its original link, which is already dead. How can I do this? I searched in Internet yet I don't get it. How please, in simple terms. --SocialScythe (talk) 11:10, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SocialScythe, you dan do it yourself by using the User:InternetArchiveBot, see also WP:PLRT. Happy Editing, CommanderWaterford (talk) 12:43, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures of Jehovah’s Witnesses[edit]

Please remove the picture of two of the Church of Latter Day Saints. These are wearing black trousers and white shirts. One of them is pointing to the Book of Mormon. There is also a name badge showing above the arm of the one on the right side. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not wear name badges. This may have originated from a You Tube video criticising Jehovah’s Witnesses. Thank you for hopefully correcting this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:4C8:1487:9B53:1:2:BCA3:536C (talk) 11:22, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could you clarify which article you're referring to? Jehovah's Witnesses, Church of Christ (Latter Day Saints), The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormonism, Mormons - none of these contain the image you're speaking of. I can't think of any other article, and your editing history has nothing to help either. Chaheel Riens (talk) 11:30, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines..--Shantavira|feed me 08:17, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Options for when tables get to long?[edit]

On Agriculture in Guyana the table on Sugar needs an update, and I found export data through to 2018. However, I think adding ~20 more year-rows will just be awkward white space with limited content payoff. I read through the Table/MOS guides and didn't find a solution.

Personally, I think a graph would be better, but I'm wary of dealing with images. Could I make multiple year columns (probably by decade) or would that be an accessibility/format issue?

(Even though this question is specific, I like editing on economic issues so this dilemma comes up periodically. Feedback appreciated!) Cheers, Estheim (talk) 13:46, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Estheim:I would use a graph, specifically, an SVG image in Commons using gnuplot to create the image. Place the gnuplot script (which includes the data), in the comments on the Commons page so someone else can update or improve it. This also provides the data in tabular form to solve accessibility problems. Place your references there also. You can find worked examples. -Arch dude (talk) 15:43, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Estheim: Here is a worked exmple: c:File:2012 meningitis cases.svg. -Arch dude (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Estheim: Check out WP:HCGWA for precise directions. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 16:20, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Arch dude, EDG 543 Thanks. I looked through the documentation, but they seem to be geared towards folks who already know their way around Commons and have a broader understanding of markup. I can handle the basic data entry parts, but I don't see where and how to get the whole thing started. The Meningitis Cases is the right 'look', is it possible to copy that and modify it? Estheim (talk) 16:51, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Estheim: First, some fundamentals. You must download the free gnuplot program and install it on your computer. Once you do that, you can then experiment with the program to learn how use it: It is tremendously flexible. Or, you can download the script and the data from the meningitis example and run it to produce the meningitis graph, and then modify it a bit at a time until you end up with our graph. After you have your SVG file, you can finally learn how to upload it to commons using the file upload wizard. Keep coming back here as needed as your progress through these steps, or create a user subpage of your user page to document and track your progress and we can work with you there. -Arch dude (talk) 18:13, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why I am editing[edit]

Dear Sir/Madame

I am a South African living in South Africa. Some of your articles are somewhat inaccurate and I would like to edit in order to avoid people being confused — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.225.45.214 (talk) 16:26, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Please be aware that ALL facts in a Wikipedia article are supposed come from published reliable sources (WP:RS), which you must include as references. What you personally know to be accurate or innaccurate must not be used to change an article, but is of course a very good starting point for finding accurate published sources. -Arch dude (talk) 16:45, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings, and welcome. We are always happy to have help in ensuring that all articles are as accurate as possible. However, your initial edit to Bakoven removed a great deal of information (and broke the infobox template), without an adequate explanation. In addition to the above good advice, please take care to not accidentally remove material, and please use the edit summary field to explain what you are doing. Thanks, and happy editing. --Finngall talk 16:58, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Invisible text[edit]

Hi,

My new article submission was declined because of invisible text, how do I rectify this to avoid it being deleted?

Matthias StephanMatthias2gen (talk) 22:34, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Matthias2gen, it looks like what happened, is that instead of adding {{AFC submission}} to the top of your draft, you replaced the entire text of your draft with {{AFC submission}}. I'm not sure why KylieTastic didn't check the draft history and find the text, however I have re-added the text below KylieTastic's decline notice. That said, if you re-submit at this point the article will be declined again because you don't cite any sources for the information in the draft. Please cite some sources before trying again. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:49, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Islamic dates[edit]

In the article Iran Meteorological Organization, most of the dates are in the Islamic calendar and should be transformed into international years. What template should I use to demand for that?

Pierre cb (talk) 23:59, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pierre cb: This is far out of my areas of expertise. While we generally use some form of international dating, This may be a special case. In particular, if the sources use a different calendar, it is probably appropriate to have both forms of dates (perhaps Iranian followed by international in parentheses) in the article, and add a sentence near the top to explain. I see that you have opened a discussion on the article's talk page. If you do not get a response after (say) about a week, then feel free make the changes yourself. In any event, all dates in the article should be consistent: all should be Iranian, or all should be standard, or all should be both. -Arch dude (talk) 00:36, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I do not have a clue for the translation, that is why I am asking if there is a template to put at the beginning of the article to ask for it, as {{Orphan}} ask to link the articles to others. Pierre cb (talk) 00:43, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pierre cb: I can't think of a specific template, but you could use {{cleanup}} with a detailed |reason= parameter. GoingBatty (talk) 03:09, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pierre cb: If you don't receive a satisfactory answer here or your post on the article's talk page in a day or two, you can also try Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Iran. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 03:07, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
