I just wanted to let someone know that Janet Doub Erickson passed away on September 3, 2021 so that the page on her reflects this.

Here is what her daughter and my friend Eva wrote about Janet on Facebook:


Eva Astrid Erickson is with Janet Doub Erickson in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. September 5 at 4:08 PM · Janet Doub Erickson June 29, 1924 to September 3, 2021 Mom drew, painted, carved, wove, etched, sewed, macraméd, knit, built furniture and fences, taught, wrote poetry and books, published many articles, made the most incredible pinatas, wine, jams and toys, traveled the world, and raised 5 children along the way. Mom was a Renaissance woman who lived life with a unique flare! She encouraged the creativity in those around her and her memory lives on in her children, grandchildren and those who knew her! Trying to edit article but changes not reflecting.[edit]

the sentence of the last paragraph of china economy should be deleted.[edit]

This paragraph is talking about Chinese women work as prostitute in south Korean brothels. i think it is deliberately edited by some author to uglify China and Chinese women, because prostitutes or brothel workers probably exist in every countries in the world including the south Korean. additionally the reference is quoted from Korean newspaper in the year of 2011, which is 10 years ago. therefore, the sentence is not appropriate, incomplete and inaccurate, should be deleted.

Not sure how to edit notelist[edit]

Would like to edit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deaths_and_violence_at_the_Cecil_Hotel#Notes to add a "citation needed" to the assertion about the two serial killers staying there, can't seem to get in to the text of the notelist. I can't see why you would want to add a "citation needed" tag, when that note is already supported by the citation of reference 1. If you did need to get to the text of the note, it appears at the place in the text where the note is defined; you can get there by the uparrow/ caret ^ symbol at the start of the note where it appears in the notelist. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:39, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@0mtwb9gd5wx: free use on commons is always preferred over any non-free use. In fact, the existence of a free image on commons precludes the claim of "fair use" under our rules, so you must use the commons image if it is at all suitable. SVG is preferred over non-scalable formats if the images are approximately equivalent. HOWEVER: I question the copyright status of c:File:Clearlinux.svg. It claims "own work", but it certainly derives from (and violates the copyright of) another image somewhere, unless the uploader was the original creator of the Clear Linux logo. -Arch dude (talk) 15:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@0mtwb9gd5wx: I nominated c:File:Clearlinux.svg for deletion as a copyvio. I think you re forced to use the fair-use png image (en:File:Clear Linux OS Logo.png) here at en.wikipedia. We cannot use SVG for a fair-use image because our own fair-use rules require the "smallest useable resolution", to avoid impinging on commercial use of a trademark. -Arch dude (talk) 15:20, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@0mtwb9gd5wx: That has no effect on the copyright status of the logo. If it does not have an acceptable copyright license, then it cannot be on Commons, period. It also has (almost) no effect on our fair-use rules at the English Wikipedia, which are at Wikipedia:Non-free content. @0mtwb9gd5wx: here is an example of the logo of a free/opensource project that is copyrighted and requires attribution if you use it: File:Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg. @0mtwb9gd5wx: First, please read WP:WHATABOUT and WP:LOGO, especially the "not original enough" section. Wikipedia is not here to test the limits of fair-use doctrine. We don't want WMF to spend money on high-priced lawyers. Note the rationales for your two examples are different: Redhat is copyrighted, while ClearOS and Ubuntu are "not original enough to copyright". In my opinion the Redhat logo should be PNG. Look at the copyright declaration in its file descriptioon, which states (in bold text) that we must use low resolution. As to copyrightable creativity: while this is a judgement call, simple can still be creative, and I doubt that anyone wouldclaim that the ClearLinux penguin is not creative. @Arch dude and @0mtwb9gd5wx longstanding consensus is that SVG files are superior to PNG files, as long as they are displayed at a small resolution it's fine. We even have a special template {{SVG logo}}, which shows we have at least 17,000 SVG logos. The logo is probably a copyvio thought, and I have uploaded it locally to enwiki under a non-free rationale, see File:Clear Linux logo.svg. I've also added this to the enwiki article. @Berrely:It appears to be a longstanding lack of consensus, so I'm still wrong, but not completely wrong. See here as an example. If a consensus has been documented somewhere, please provide a link. I had no prior knowledge of this debate, only a personal common-sense interpretation of the meaning of "low resolution", and I am willing to be guided by any guideline or policy. Arch dude generally discussions from 2007 aren't consensus, but if you want to use them, there is this Template for Discussion page that resulted in "Keep", please read it's arguments. The important thing when using SVG logos is not using them at to high of a resolution in the article. How do I best open a discussion involving several pages?[edit]

I would like to open a discussion on the systematics of whitesided-dolphins (genus Lagenorynchus), but rather than opening the discussion on all 6 species' pages + the genus-page, I wonder whether the discussions can be linked or there are other ways to do it more efficiently than handling 7 discussions at the same time. Suggestions appreciated. Right now the taxonomy of Lagenorhynchus has been changed as a reflection of new DNA-evidence, but this is disputed and the authority in the field (Society for Marine Mammalogy) has not decided on how the six species should be named, so in my opinion the old names should be used as long as there is not agreement on new names.--JakobT (talk) 17:16, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, JakobT. Certainly, you want to keep the discussion one place, and I would have thought that Talk:Lagenorhynchus was the place. But it's fine to put notes in other places (eg the species' talk pages) saying that there is a discussion going on, and linking to that discussion. The thing to be careful about is canvassing: invite people to join the discussion, don't invite them to support any particular view. --ColinFine (talk) 17:41, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
