Liv Bona Dea Hospital wikipedia name & url change

[edit]

Hello, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bona_Dea_International_Hospital Bona Dea International Hospital name has been changed as Liv Bona Dea Hospital could you please update url & title name of this wiki? 84.51.15.114 (talk) 06:39, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The hospital's web site states "It is not a coincidence that we have named our hospital 'Bona Dea International Hospital'." and "The Bona Dea International Hospital is located in Baku". The word "Liv" only appears as a graphical logo, and in the copyright statement at the bottom of each page. Wikipedia should use the establishment's common name. [1] gives some background. Bazza (talk) 08:38, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, we have changed a lot of things that seen as Bona Dea International Hospital. Hospital name changed as Liv Bona Dea Hospital so we need to update wikipedia name and url. 84.51.15.114 (talk) 06:04, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Small Details + Joining Clone Wars/Repubic Commando Taskforce

[edit]

Hey! New member here, this is a fresh account as I would like to reform as a wiki user. I have been IP banned previously and would like to contribute but am scared as to what is allowed and what isn't (obviously no vandalism). If I believe needed can I add an adjective or a comma? Also, i would like to join the Clone Wars Admins if anyone could help please do.

Thank You Fellow WikiUsers

From Chicken256 Chicken256 (talk) 06:59, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chicken256 Note that a ban is very different from a block. If your IP was blocked due to your actions, you may not edit under any account or IP address until the block is removed. I'm not sure what you mean by "Clone Wars Admins", there are not admins for specific areas of Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 08:26, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ogbo

[edit]

Hi, I am making enquiries on how to Upload a content about my city, Ogbo on the wikkipedia. Kindly furnish me with necessary details. 31.205.207.79 (talk) 09:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This "content" that you hope to upload: did you write it yourself? -- Hoary (talk) 11:56, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:YFA. Also, don't WP:COPYPASTE. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:27, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We have articles on Ileogbo, Osogbo and Ogbomosho. Is it possible that you mean one of those – I can't find any references to a city simply named "Ogbo", either in Wikipedia or on the Web. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195)} 90.199.169.199 (talk) 15:11, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is a place called Ogbo just south of Ijebu Ode. A small town or village rather than a city, though. --bonadea contributions talk 09:15, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My article is "stuck" in draft-mode

[edit]

My article is not published and stay in draft-mode, even though I have pressed the "Publish" button. What else can I do? KingstreetPR (talk) 11:44, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have published it in the draft-space, not in main space. To get it reviewed, you have to submit it for review by using a button now displayed on the draft-article. The Banner talk 12:00, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Let me quote your Draft:Self-Service advertising, KingstreetPR: "Not every self-service advertising platform is the same, but they all do the job of connecting the publisher to the advertiser in a web interface that enables the advertising transaction to take place 24/7 with each party being in full control of their data at every stage." Now let me quote a web page titled "What is Self-Service Advertising?": "Not every self-service advertising platform is the same, but they all do the job of connecting the publisher to the advertiser in a web interface that enables the advertising transaction to take place 24/7 with each party being in full control of their data at every stage." Please comment on the resemblance. -- Hoary (talk) 12:07, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm already ripping out all the copyvio I can find. Tempted to just speedy for copyvio. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:13, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Almost the whole thing was copyvio, and it's a recreation of a page deleted by Reaper Eternal as advertising. I speedied it for copyvio. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:26, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LT Bobby Ross

[edit]

How can we get LT Bobby Ross on your service? 64.130.175.222 (talk) 12:52, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to hazard a guess that it is this person. I'm also going to hazard a guess that the request may have been made by someone linked to Ross. The requirement for a standalone article is to meet the general notability guideline. I'm not sure that Ross does. Social media pages, online profiles etc do not meet the GNG standard.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 13:00, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Nearby" gadget

[edit]

In the option of Wikipedia, there was a gadget called "Nearby" that displays nearby places or monuments article based on our device GPS. But now the gadget disappeared. What is the reason for that? The Supermind (talk) 14:15, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The people who frequent this page are generally people who edit Wikipedia: few of them have any involvement with the software, still less with the mobile apps. I suggest you ask at WP:VPT, or else go directly to mw:Wikimedia Apps. ColinFine (talk) 17:30, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The Supermind, this is a known issue, see phab:T312864. I believe it is going to be fixed tomorrow, when the new MediaWiki version is deployed. Rummskartoffel 21:11, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bodour Al Qasimi - Edits to the Arabic Version

[edit]

Dear Sir, Madam,

Yesterday evening and earlier today, I began making updates to the Bodour Al Qasimi Wikipedia profile in Arabic. The syntax in Arabic is as follows:

بدور بنت سلطان بن .محمد القاسمي

Although I see the changes on my account, these have not been published. May you please advise whether there are different rules in Arabic with editing and publishing, or whether there is a vetting protocol?

Lastly, would it be possible to advise when we might expect approval if there is a vetting system in place.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully, Ibrahim Constant sun (talk) 15:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Each project makes its own rules, so this is a question you would need to ask on that project. Beeblebrox (talk) 15:16, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Constant sun, hello! ar-WP may very well to some extent have different rules/ways of doing things than en-WP, so any problems there needs to be asked about there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:22, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello and thank you. I sent through a message asking and shall wait the response. Constant sun (talk) 15:30, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] Hello Constant sun. Do you mean the article (not "profile", please) Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi? You appear to be the only user to edit that article (28 times) since 8 July, except for one revert by Whpq on 14 July because of doubts over the correct licencing on an image you uploaded.
It's therefore not clear what the problem is, but note that on this English-language Wikipedia it would not be appropriate to have extended text in Arabic. Have you perhaps also been editing on an Arabic-language Wikipedia? If so, please note that each different language Wikipedia is a completely separate project from all others, procedures and rules differ between them, and this En-Wiki has no jurisdiction over any other.
You might also benefit from reading WP:OWN. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.169.199 (talk) 15:35, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Thank you. I am sorry, I believe the right term is article, rather than profile. The question relates to edits in Arabic. The need to be concise is understood. I am working to reflect consistency. The note on jurisdiction is understood. Constant sun (talk) 15:39, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Publishing on Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Team

I am trying to make a wiki page for my company. I work as a Marketing manager. Can you please help me as I am facing issues in publishing the content even after following the guidelines? 34.98.217.29 (talk) 17:39, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, then follow instructions on the article wizard. QiuLiming1 (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your draft was declined because it does not contain at least 2 independent reliable secondary sources (Databases doesn't count). QiuLiming1 (talk) 18:01, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What are your issues? We cannot help unless we know the problem. You, a paid professional, are requesting help from unpaid volunteers, so please help us help you. Step 1: register an account to make it easier for us to help: follow the WP:USERNAME policy. Step 2: make the mandatory disclosure of your paid status: WP:PAID. Step 3: make sure your company is notable by our definition: see WP:NCORP. This is essential. Notability is the only absolute requirement for a Wikipedia article. If your company is not notable, we WILL delete an article if you somehow create one, so don't waste your time and ours. After completing these steps, come back here and we can help. -Arch dude (talk) 17:56, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And then, once you do make a "wiki page" for your company, accept the fact that it will not be a "wiki page" for your company; it will be an encyclopedia article about your company. And it will not be your article, and not be under your control. Anybody will be able to come in and edit it. And you might not like the results, but if what others write is relevant and reliably sourced, there won't be much you can do about it. Uporządnicki (talk) 18:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Quote from Draft:Acuity Knowledge Partners: "Acuity Knowledge Partners is a leading provider of high-value research, analytics and business intelligence to the financial services sector... The company, founded in 2002 as Copal Partners to support the corporate finance department of leading investment banks, is a pioneer in outsourced financial research. " This is WP:PEACOCK language, which is a classic sign that someone has been paid to write for Wikipedia.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:39, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ianmacm, exposure to such prose does tend to numb the mind. So it's no surprise that you missed "high-value" and a second "leading". -- Hoary (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki page creation

[edit]

Hello, I work for a small financial services company with about 1,500 people that's called Arcesium. We're looking into the criteria to create a Wiki page for our firm, and have a few questions. 1. Is there specific criteria that we need to meet in order to create a page? 2. Is there a way to ensure that no person outside our firm is able to edit page content? DEWArcesium (talk) 18:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1. there is no way to create a page 'for your firm'. This is an on line encyclopaedia, created for the benefit of its readers. 2. No. see my answer to 1.
Isn't it about time that rather than attempting to give a civil response to people who cannot be bothered to do even the slightest bit of elementary research (like reading the FAQ they have already been shown) before asking how they can get free advertising space, we just told them to f off? AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is by far the most common help desk question for someone to ask "How can I create a page about me/my organisation/my company/my pop group?" etc etc. There are existing pages like WP:YFA and WP:COI that explain why this is unlikely to happen. But I doubt if it will stop the requests.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:10, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DEWArcesium Impossible. In the main page it says "Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." QiuLiming1 (talk) 19:14, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DEWArcesium If there was an article about your company, anyone can add "uncomplimentary but referenced" information to the article. It would not be a page for your company. You would not have exclusive control over the article. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 06:51, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Wikipedia article

[edit]

Hello, there is an error in the Wikipedia article for Xavier Becerra, the US Secretary of HHS. It calls Becerra a "jewish lobbyist [sic]" I'm wondering if you know who inserted this inaccurate information into the article, where they are located, or any other information about them. It appears the Wikipedia page was edited today. Thanks--Gabe 2601:643:8581:CB80:0:0:0:2571 (talk) 20:15, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All set. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:24, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As ScottishFinnishRadish suggests, the edit has now been removed. It's what we call 'vandalism', and unfortunately it happens sometimes. There's little we can say about the editor beyond what you can see, though if you're really really interested you'd have to make a formal request to the Wikipedia legal department (don't get your hopes up). Thanks for pointing it out. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:30, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The help desk volunteers don't have access to non-public information. Here is the public information. Click the "View history" tab to see edits to the article. "jewish lobbyist" was added today [2] by a new user called Coldstill. Special:CentralAuth/Coldstill shows the account was created one minute before and has no other edits. Anyone can create an account. The user can be contacted at User talk:Coldstill but may not respond. They have not specified an email address or gender in the account. That's all. Kelly’s Island, Newfoundland

[edit]

As owner of 25% (approx 120 acres) of Kelly’s Island in Conception Bay South, I am somewhat confused as to how Wikipedia and Mapcarta gave sole ownership of aforementioned island to Memorial University of Newfoundland. Please make necessary corrections. thank you Doug Gear Doug Gear (talk) 20:32, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Gear: Kellys_Island_(Newfoundland_and_Labrador) says nothing about who owns it. Which article are you referring to? RudolfRed (talk) 20:42, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The statement was removed in this edit. Appropriately, it seems - it's not supported by the single source in the article. 174.21.19.94 (talk) 20:51, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cross-language references

[edit]

Are cross-language references counted as "reliable" on the English Wikipedia? Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 22:59, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Urban Versis 32: If you mean references to a Wikipedia version in another language then no. If you mean external sources in another language then they are allowed when they are considered reliable but English sources are preferred. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:07, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
