November 27[edit]

Eitiquette when one's edit has been reverted with minimal discussion[edit]

I've added a response on the talk page. Is it considered polite to post a message on the talk page of the reverting editor, asking for comment? Seems like like undoing the revert to get their attention would be... counterproductive at the least! Chas zzz brown (talk) 00:11, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ping them! Chas zzz brown, I like to use {{subst:U|username}} like I did just now, but you just need to link their user page. 2601:84:8A00:2DE5:F5C3:399:9547:7BAC (talk) 00:57, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Chas zzz brown (talk) 01:28, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there's a degree of hurry up and wait involved. Not everyone is on the same schedule, or edits daily. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to report vandalism?[edit]

Re: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Iran_hostage_crisis_negotiations&diff=next&oldid=1107082134

Apart from the word "required," the material added on 11/26/2022 is not related to the Iran Hostage Crisis in any way. 2601:152:C00:EA40:CD03:9552:A7E1:B611 (talk) 03:34, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend you read WP:RVAN. Unless the user has been warned previously about vandalism, the best approach is typically to simply undo the vandalism (with an appropriate edit summary and consider leaving them an appropriate message. DonIago (talk) 06:21, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Error on the "wikipedia.org" landing page - how to report?[edit]

The page I mean is at https://www.wikipedia.org/ so not on the English Wikipedia. It's the page where you can choose Wikipedias in other languages.

Anyway, the error is the number of English articles: it's shown as "657000 +", whereas I think it's really ten times that. Maybe there are errors with other languages' article totals (don't know, haven't checked).

I'm asking here as I've no idea where to report this. A bit iffy (talk) 07:45, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@a bit iffy: yup, that's a bug. see phab:T323731. us volunteers on wikipedia can't do anything about it, unfortunately. → lettherebedarklight晚安おやすみ → 08:00, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. A bit iffy (talk) 10:22, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
a bit iffy. I believe that it is fixed. TBF, the people who fix that bug *are* volunteers, but with a *massive* amount of experience.Naraht (talk) 20:27, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Go Man Go (Radio Show)[edit]

I set up the 'Go Man Go (Radio Show)' page in 2008 under the name HonestArry and did not set up a user page for that name. I now want to edit the page under the same name but when I enter the edit page it tells me the name already exists. Could you please advise how to edit the page under the original name HonestArry.124.217.189.100 (talk) 09:13, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are saying you cannot log in to your account to edit a particular article(the preferred term, not "page"). Anyone may edit most articles, it doesn't need to be with a particular account. If you cannot remember the password to your account and you did not attach an email address to it to be able to recover the password, you will need to create a new account(if you still want an account). 331dot (talk) 09:18, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Articles (or any page on Wikipedia, for that matter) are not tied to the account that created it. Unless the page is protected, any account (or IP for that matter) can at least technically edit any page. "[...] when I enter the edit page it tells me the name already exists" suggests to me that you attempted to sign in to your account at Special:CreateAccount, which is not the login page. To log in to an existing account please use Special:UserLogin. If your password no longer works, you can try resetting it (HonestArry seems to have specified an email adress in their preferences), but if that does not work, you can only create a new account with a different username. How to kill off a Redirect Page[edit]

This morning I created Oakham Market Cross. Stupidly, I didn’t check all the variants, and I now find there is a Redirect page called Market Cross, Oakham. Can somebody suggest the best way to delete/override the Redirect? Many thanks in advance. KJP1 (talk) 12:19, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed it to point to the new article. ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 12:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

rollback script[edit]

is there a script (not gadget) that allows normal users to rollback edits? Eitanbb (talk) 14:48, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe there is a user script, and Wikipedia:User_scripts/List#Rollback/reverting doesn't seem to list one either, although there are various gadgets (Twinkle etc.) which mimic the behavior of the MediaWiki rollback link. Using the rollback links from MediaWiki (action=rollback) is restricted to people with the rollback and is restricted to rollbackers and admins as well as a few global groups. Victor Schmidt (talk) 15:00, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If there is not a script, there is still a process (a manual script) that works for anyone who can edit an article. Go to the article history and click on the version of the article that you wish to go back to: This brings up the old version. Now edit it, making no changes, and save your edit. MAKE SURE you use a good edit summary. -Arch dude (talk) 16:16, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - Not information available about Jorge A. Lira[edit]

Hello, I came across a very interesting article and doing a little research I couldn't find any more information about Jorge A. Lira

I found very interesting information about how names were derived or changed after colonization in Peru.

There are few resources in Spanish but it will take time and effort to check accuracy.

If this information is correct this work will be very valuable to understand history and society after colonization in Peru.

not sure what is the process to add this information to wikipedia. sources: https://geneasud.blogspot.com/2019/08/apellidos-qucheas-que-fueron.html?fbclid=IwAR3GaR3XPNpNekRmyyxe8yRyrxVm6sFh6O7abbl04ZgxaKd002czyuFpD2E

Hello, Antonirvr19. I'm not sure what you are asking. If you would like to write a new Wikipedia article, please look at WP:YFA - but be warned, that it is hard for inexperienced editors. If you are wanting to add some information to an existing article, you may do so, or you may make a suggestion on the article's talk page. Note that blogs are rarely acceptable as references in Wikipedia, because they are usually not counted as reliable sources: see BLOGS. ColinFine (talk) 18:30, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
