Searching the Wikipedia namespace[edit]

I often like to search for things under the 'Wikipedia:' namespace in the search box in the top right corner of the website, however by default it will only search for articles, and I switch back and forth from needing to search for articles and needing to search for Wikipedia policies, for example. Is there a way to add a template or something to my own user page that would allow me to search a specific namespace? Similar to how talk page archives tend to have an in-built search function within the page itself. Thanks, and could you please ping me as I won't be watching this. hi @Fork99! you may search in the Wikipedia namespace by prefixing your search with WP:blahblah, which I believe would be equivalent to a search for blahblah in the Wikipedia namespace. happy editing! 💜 melecie talk - 01:57, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

IP editor. The file has been added in the standard way, with the "thumb" parameter set (see H:PIC). The idea is that readers who wish to see more detail will click on the image to do so. Because that particular image has names and a coat-of-arms in its border, the people it depicts are a bit smaller than may be ideal but I personally would leave it as-is. Incidentally, there is a parameter called "upright" which can be used to enlarge thumb pictures a bit, as the help page describes. You could be WP:BOLD and use that to enlarge the picture in the article and see whether anyone objects. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:57, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the "grandparents" section of this article, the old college photo has the term Eton Match underneath it - can you lease directly link that to the SPORT section on the Eton College page? The term Eton Match also appears in the early section of this article - can the same direct link be applied to the SPORT section of the Eton College page? I hope I am not asking too much. Citing a a book that is organized as numbered 'articles'[edit]

Is it possible to use {{cite book}} to cite a book that is organized as numbered 'articles' (e.g. Pratt's Mechanical Philosophy? The template does not appear to offer an 'article' parameter. catslash (talk) 16:36, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Catslash: you can use {{cite encyclopedia}} in some cases, or you can use the page parameter since it is not required to be just a number, or you can construct a reference by adding information inside the ref tags before or after the {{cite book}} -Arch dude (talk) 16:51, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That book is organized in chapters with numbered paragraphs. I didn't find any numbered 'articles'. The link you gave is to pages 304–305. Those pages are in "Dynamics: Chapter V: Lunar Theory" so you might cite paragraph 339 (for example) this way:

Thank you for the quick and detailed response. Regarding articles vs paragraphs, notice that 339 in this example refers back to Art. 317. Vandalism help request from Moorishino[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Marinid Sultanate. Namely,The original map of the berber state was changed by a user on 21 february 2021. I restored the original version of the map which clearly shows the historical boundaries of the state which went from Morocco to Tunisia (which is historically proven and the same page mentions it) and which is found in the same page in other languages, but some users keep reverting my picture and putting the previous one, Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Moorishino, you need to read why edit warring is disruptive behaviour, irrespective of the rights or wrongs of the content; and how vandalism is narrowly defined as "behaviour intended to damage Wikipedia". Are these two articles the same and what should I do about them?[edit]

While going around some Tuvalu articles, I found Pukasavilivili and Tepuka Vili Vili. I have some level of suspicion that they are the same subject. When describing an entrance to the atoll, they use the exact same sentence. They also mention two similar sounding cyclones with similar years, Cyclone Meli (1979) and Cyclone Keli (1997), which in previous versions were the same, Meli. There are more things but I am having difficulties in knowing what to do because the citations I might need have been usurped to an Indonesian casino page or do not have a URL attached. ✶Mitch 199811 ✶ 22:08, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looking around the archived website, it seems that it is a duplicated article. Only Tepuka Vili Vili is mentioned on maps and the map of the atoll shows a different island where the coords template of Pukasavilivili says it is. ✶Mitch 199811 ✶ 03:18, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Mitch199811 a Google books search of the two names supports the idea that they are the same islet, so it would make sense to merge the articles and leave a note on the talk page of your reasons. Mitch199811, for information Pukasavilivili and Tepuka Vili Vili seem to be alternative names so CSD:A10 (recently created article that duplicates an existing topic) does not apply and a WP:Redirect should be created. I think a bold redirect should be fine, if anyone disagrees they could revert. It would be helpful if you explained your reasons, e.g. which maps you have checked, which island has Pukasavilivili's coordinates. Also Template:Islands of Tuvalu lists both. There are duplicate articles in Chinese and Portuguese, so I would be interested in seeing if editors there want to merge their articles, then the Wikidata items could be merged.
