Currency conversions?[edit]

Hello, I am new to this, if I am to write a sentence about a company that acquired something for $6.5 million in 2009 USD, should I give a relevant figure for today's inflation-adjusted number? Is there also a guideline for which I can refer to in the future? Thank you... X750. Spin a yarn? Articles I've screwed over? 01:49, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@X750: Hi there! You could use {{inflation}} to do the calculation for you. GoingBatty (talk) 02:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

EFN template problem[edit]

In the discussion Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 June 19#Category:Assassinated heads of state by continent, I tried listing an {{efn}} footnote with a {{notelist-talk}} or {{reflist-talk}} template but it didn't work and there is an error that I don't know how to fix without removing the efn footnote. Id like if possible to know how to fix this problem, preserving the efn template. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 04:03, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thinker78. I think the error has to do with the embedded external link syntax you've added to the note's content. Try following the guidance given in the first paragraph of Template:EFN and add the syntax "1=" at the beginning of the first paramenter. In addition, simply replacing the external link to the diff with an internal wikilink per H:DIFF might also resolve things. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:51, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it worked. Best regards, Thinker78 (talk) 05:11, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Eliminate or correct distribution map[edit]

Hello, I am only very occasionally correcting errors, have never done a substantial edit nor an article. The article on Nile Crocodile (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nile_crocodile) has a distribution map dating from 2004 which does not reflect the split of this species from West African Crocodile (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_African_crocodile). This map is incorrect and confusing since it implies that this species is present in West Africa, which is not in keeping with the present corrected text. I am not in position to correct the map, but in the absence of a correction I believe it would be better to simply delete it (note that there is no distribution map in the article on West African Crocodile). I cannot readily find a way to do this, could you please advise? Thanks, John Rose Zzzzxyzz (talk) 15:04, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can remove the map from the article by deleting the code from the article: just find the code Crocodylus niloticus Distribution.png and delete it, and use an edit summary explaining that you're removing the image because it's faulty. (Alternately, you could provide a link to your question here; just copy the URL https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=1161413941 and paste it into the edit summary bar, and don't worry about explaining further.) Deleting an image, so that it's not usable at all, is significantly harder. Because this image resides on Wikimedia Commons, you'll have to go through their deletion process, but because it's currently used on many articles in various languages, it's almost certain to be kept. (Even if it's no longer accurate, the map can be used to demonstrate the combined range of the two species in 2004.) I'd advise not attempting to get it deleted. @Zzzzxyzz: Hi there! The best place to discuss an issue with a specific article is the article's talk page (e.g. Talk:Nile crocodile) The user who made the map may be interested in updating it, or maybe someone else would. See ya in a while, crocodile!  :-) GoingBatty (talk) 21:09, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of References found[edit]

Hello, help desk. I understand that I can only use second hand information to reference, but the tiny nonprofit publisher has very limited references on the internet and hard not to talk about the publisher without touching aspects found on their website. Besides the internet, I have looked through major and not so major newspapers, magazines, journal reviews and they only speak of their contest in math modeling, like this one from Wired Magazine. It's a little frustrating because they have been around since 1980. Is there an avenue that I have looked through yet. Any help/advice would be much appreciated, thanks Mathisall (talk) 16:23, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you can't find good, independent, reliable sources; it might simply be that this publisher doesn't meet the Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) threshhold, and so doesn't qualify for an article. Sorry. Qcne (talk) 16:34, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mathisall: this lack of references is the very definition of a non-notable subject. Notability is the only absolute requirement for an article. A non-notable subject cannot have a Wikipedia article. There are approximately 334 million companies in the world. Most are not notable. -Arch dude (talk) 17:00, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delete my account[edit]

It seems I created an account and no longer need it, how do I delete my account and personal information? Eldonfreymuth 2 (talk) 23:26, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accounts cannot be deleted, they can only be renamed. Tropicalkitty (talk) 23:29, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eldonfreymuth 2: Hi there! You can go to Special:Preferences and remove your email address if you like. GoingBatty (talk) 02:43, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:VANISH is probably the nearest equivalent and is not always granted. Alpha3031 (tc) 13:51, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
