March 11[edit]

table of contents missing[edit]

the table of contents (which is supposed to be floating at the left) now is hidden behind an icon next to the title!? 2003:F3:EF19:EB00:CC0B:53:E5CF:F3C0 (talk) 00:05, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i wanna make 'switch' template[edit]

hi~~

i am in action on the Unamwiki site. i cannot use '#switch' there. It is only using the 'if' template.(old version system problem)

{{if|{{{1|}}}|{{{2|}}}|{{{3|}}} }}

but i make a 'switch' template. link

In 'switch', several conditions can be simply implemented. But please help me implement it more simply in the 'switch' template...

  • Original 'switch'
{{#switch :Japan |Korea |Japan |China = Asia |Greece |France = Europe |default = }}

  • current 'switch' template. If 1 Numeric Variables is 'Japan', then output2 displays in the case2.
{{if |{{{ {{{case2|}}}=@ }}} |{{{ {{{case2|}}} }}} |}}

Fot more infom. Press links.

{{switch {{{1|Japan}}}
|case1=Korea |case2=Japan |case3=China

|output1=Asia |output2=Asia |output3=Asia

|case4=Greece |case5=France
|output4=Europe |output5=Europe
|default = }}
  • but it makes many codes. So i wanna make 'switch' template like this.
{{switch {{{1|Japan}}}
|Korea |Japan |China = Asia
|Greece |France = Europe
|default = }}

But Korea, Japan is Numeric Variables. And China isn't Numeric Variables.

Is it possible to modify it?

Please ..Thanks a lot. 222.117.225.233 (talk) 03:02, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help desk for Wikipedia, and has nothing to do with any other Wiki, even if it does happen to use the Mediawiki software. If you want help on using parser functions in that software, please look at mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions ColinFine (talk) 10:59, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Our Special:Version says MediaWiki 1.40.0-wmf.26 and lists ParserFunctions under Installed extensions. https://www.unamwiki.org/w/Special:Version?uselang=en says MediaWiki 1.38.5 and doesn't list ParserFunctions. mw:Extension:ParserFunctions says "This extension comes with MediaWiki 1.18 and above. Thus you do not have to download it again. However, you still need to follow the other instructions provided." Something can always go wrong but it should be easy to install ParserFunctions for somebody with access to LocalSettings.php. It looks like they only have to add wfLoadExtension( 'ParserFunctions' ); to the file. Template coding without ParserFunctions has severe limitations. It's a pity, I'm also active in Wikipedia. It's a bit technical problem, so I thought I'd ask for help, but there was no similar answer, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.117.225.233 (talk) 06:02, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would ask WP:Village Pump (Technical) which has many more technically knowledgeable users in general (where PrimeHunter is usually generous with his knowledge). ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Need help closing RfC and inviting reviewers[edit]

I'm a participant in a RfC filed by Freoh in early February. Voting and discussion have fairly well run their course. A bot removed the RfC template a couple days ago (March 9). What do we need to do to: 1) close the RfC to prevent further comments/voting and 2) invite editors to review the RfC and offer feedback on voting and the issues raised? The RfC in question is on the Talk:Constitution of the United States page. Thank you. Allreet (talk) 03:28, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Have you tried listing the discussion at Wikipedia:Closure requests? Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 06:40, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, but I'll check it out and let you know. Thanks Allreet (talk) 08:00, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I entered a request, fingers crossed that I did it properly. Again, thanks. Allreet (talk) 09:15, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to find Move tab[edit]

It is been 4 days and i have done more than 10 edits but still i am not able to find Move tab on my page . What do you suggest me to do ? Swaathi MC (talk) 04:38, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Swaathi MC: Looking at your contributions it seems you've figured out where it is, but note that your page has been proposed for speedy deletion for blatant advertising. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:26, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When there's already a draft[edit]

So there's an article I want to work on. However, there's a draft for that article waiting for a review, but in my opinion it is poorly written, and will not help me in any way. I can't find the relevant policies, so do I just go and create the article, or rewrite the draft and move it to the mainspace? Corachow (talk) 11:51, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Corachow All drafts are open to be edited by anyone and that would include making major changes you think would be improvements. Judging by your interests, maybe one such is Draft:Sachiyo Ito, which you will see from its Talk Page has been the subject of active discussion. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:32, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Turnbull: Thanks. The draft I'm talking about is Draft:Guillaume Diop. I'll probably write more about the dancing and less about the side projects, and present everything chronologically. And for my two cents I think the Ito article is mostly fine but a few adjustments can be made. If you think it's appropriate, I'll put my thoughts there. Corachow (talk) 12:45, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Corachow The Ito article could do with any contributions you can make, thanks. And Klee would no doubt be grateful for your help also, since they are newcomers here and the Diop draft is a first for them. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:52, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Turnbull: Just an update on both. I worked on the Diop draft based on the previous versions and published it to the mainspace at Guillaume Diop. As for the Ito draft, I did find more problems after looking closer (some are a bit nitpicky), and left a note at the talk page for possible improvements. I'm juggling multiple articles at the moment, including a recent death nomination, so I don't have the time to actually work on that draft, but I'll do it ASAP. Corachow (talk) 17:05, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for publishing this article. I am only not sure why the mentioned about appearing him on the cover of Dance Europe Magazine has been taken off. For any dancer it is a major achievement. Klee (talk) 00:10, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Klee I've added that fact back into the article. Corachow's concern was possibly that Diop's name doesn't appear on the cover itself, so the citation needs to be to the contents page, for verification. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:29, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Turnbull, I didn't remove it, but I think I agree with the edit (though not the edit summary): significance should really be established by secondary sources and though I looked, I couldn't find any. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 19:16, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Roy MacGregor-Hastie[edit]

My brother's correct name is Roy MacGregor-Hastie, not as described on your website, but as shown on his Birth Certificate, which is in my possession. Please make the necessary correction. Sandra MacGregor Hastie (talk) 14:08, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out. As the middle names in the article are unsourced, I've removed them. Valenciano (talk) 14:13, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Valenciano and Sandra MacGregor Hastie: the problematic part has been added by User:Kaliforniyka on 15 March 2019 in ths edit Special:diff/887862107. --CiaPan (talk) 14:26, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much indeed. I will check my brother's description next week, to make any possible further corrections. Sandra MacGregor Hastie (talk) 14:46, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sandra MacGregor Hastie: Please do not edit the article directly, as you are an interested party: see WP:COI. Instead, make suggestions for change on the article's talk page at talk:Roy MacGregor-Hastie, and tag your suggested change with {{edit request}}. Assertions must be referenced to reliable published sources, so something you know to be true cannot be added unless you can point to such a source. You can however remove any statement that is not referenced. -Arch dude (talk) 15:02, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid that that article is severely deficient by Wikipedia's current standard in that it lacks any independent substantial sources on him at all, and therefore does not demonstrate that he meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability. Do you have any such sources (not written or published by him or his associates?) If you have, it would be helpful to cite them on the talk page so that somebody could add them. Again with a bogus sfn error[edit]

Once more at TRAPPIST-1 - the first reference has a sfn error but apparently it works. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 14:21, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: That was tricky because I lack familiarity with the features and was confused by two similar citations. I have reported it at Module talk:Footnotes#False positive with Template:Cite Gaia EDR3. Somebody will probably update Module:Footnotes/whitelist with this case. The link works in the article because the citation is transcluded by {{Cite Gaia EDR3}}. The feature which reports sfn errors cannot see citations in transclusions and need a whitelist entry to omit reporting it as an error. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:26, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Daylight Savings Time[edit]

Nowhere in the article on Daylight Savings time did I see anything about the seriousness of Seasonal Affect Disorder, and the early darkness’s affect on serious depression and suicide. To keep it dark early year round seems dangerous for people dealing with that Nov into March. Moreover, this is compounded during the Thanksgiving holiday in the US and the December holidays throughout the world. this needs to be addressed in general and politically, and information in your article in Wikipedia would be very important. I have a PhD in English literature, specialties in the novel and in 19th century American lit, so this is not my field.but I do know the value of thorough research. a year round no change staying on Daylight Savings in the US would NOT disrupt Circadian rhythms as there would be no time-annual disruption, and more evening light could help those with Seasonal Affect Disorder. 2601:8C0:785:DA70:C415:E976:49:63B7 (talk) 16:44, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please direct concerns about the Daylight Savings Time article to its associated talk page, Talk:Daylight Savings Time. 331dot (talk) 16:49, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you have reliable sources discussing the relationship between DST and SAD, you are welcome to summarise them in the article (giving due weight to differing views in the sources). But what you have posted above looks rather like advocacy, which is not permitted in a Wikipedia article, no matter how well-intentioned: please see RIGHTINGGREATWRONGS ColinFine (talk) 17:07, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, any claim that DST does or does not cause specific medical effects would require extra-serious sources. For standard information (such as "company X was established in year Y"), we accept local newspapers; for medical information, we require serious metastudies - see WP:MEDRS. Question[edit]

"Kumārajīva's additions to the Vinaya section of the Chinese canon are the Sarvāstivāda-vinaya (T. 1435), ...". Is it correct to write "T. 1435", "T1435", or "T 1435"? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kum%C4%81raj%C4%ABva#/editor/11. JackkBrown (talk) 21:33, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown The article is not consistent on its use of T numbers, which would usually be something to be concerned about as consistency is one of the aims mentioned in the WP:MOS. I'm not familiar with T numbers and suggest you make a suggestion on the Talk Page at Talk:Kumārajīva, maybe after being WP:BOLD and making the article consistent with whatever you personally feel is best. There are nearly 60 page watchers, so you'll get comments if you upset anyone! Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:15, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
