Adding an article to an RM after it has started[edit]

Hi all. Is it possible to add an article to a requested move that is already underway? In particular, I would like to add History of transgender people in Brazil to the RM at Talk:History of transgender people in Finland. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 16:05, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Carnival of Venice[edit]

According to the page, "Carnival of Venice" should be capitalised, but should "Venetian carnival" (the "c" of "carnival") and "Venice carnival" (the "c" of "carnival") also be capitalised? JackkBrown (talk) 16:11, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown: "Carnival" should be captialized if it is part of a proper name, such as the Carnival holiday. However, when writing about a traveling carnival, we would use lowercase. GoingBatty (talk) 20:07, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@GoingBatty: I have not understood correctly and therefore risk making a mistake. Could you kindly correct all the "Carnival" and "Carnevale" that I got wrong on the pages "Carnival in Italy", "Carnival of Venice", "Carnival of Viareggio" and "Carnival of Ivrea"? @JackkBrown: You are persistently making changes to articles which introduce errors and then expecting other editors such as @GoingBatty and myself to clean up your mess. This is not acceptable.

There is a danger that you will be blocked again if you continue to exhibit this behaviour. You are responsible for your edits, and should now be going back to correct them, or at least WP:UNDO your edits.

@Bazza 7: I respect you, but you are very wrong here. It may happen that I sometimes edit incorrectly, ask for advice, follow the advice, and then correct my mistakes, but this I do because I correct many pages a day (among the adjustments I make, I always flawlessly correct all captions, following the MOS:CAPTIONS, the MOS:GEOLINK, the "circa" template, adding punctuation when it's missing, etc., I fix dashes, I correct sentences, I add punctuation when it is missing (and I assure you that I have found pages where punctuation was completely missing (I mean it)), I add the "flatlist" and "plainlist" templates when necessary (more often than you can imagine, for example in many pages of Italian artists), I add the "singular" and "plural" templates, and many other things that I will not list because of their quantity) and I can't spend any more time alone than normal searching for doubts (I remind you that I am not an English national and many things I translate thanks to paid translators (very reliable)). By the way, I am a precise user and if I realise I have made a mistake I correct it, in fact sometimes I check my edits from 10 months ago, and very few do that (maybe, I repeat, maybe, not even you). JackkBrown, this will probably hurt your feelings, but I agree with Bazza 7 and GoingBatty in this matter. Most of the amendments you are aiming to make, while often technically correct, are in the context of Wikipedia fairly trivial (and I speak as a former professional editor who used to be meticulous about such matters when editing printed books and periodicals). No-one is going to look at any single stylistically errant word on Wikipedia and take it to be universally applicable: different publications have different styles; none of them is the 'one true way'.

Moreover, the scale of Wikipedia is such that you are in effect trying to bale out a lifeboat with a teaspoon.

My suggestion is that you stop this seemingly obsessive activity, find something else to do on Wikipedia or elsewhere, and resume in at least several months time after you have further passively studied both the (admittedly complex) MoS and other rules, and how the matters have been handled in articles that have GA and FA status, which ought to be entirely correct barring errors added post-assessment.

Hello, I am trying to update the artist name to Sananda Maitreya (including the wikipedia URL) everywhere to reflect the current changes in all streaming platforms of the full discography, including album covers: i.e. https://music.apple.com/en/album/introducing-the-hardline-according-to-sananda-maitreya/250551726 Can you please help? Everytime I do a change somebody else randomly reverse it.

There is no consensus to change the name of the album. Most services call it Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, which was its name when it became a notable album. Rotating galleries[edit]

Do we have them, or can it be done? I'm thinking it would be more egalitarian in not having to worry whar order a gallery is seen in (so one image never has precedence over another). On the other hand, the rotation wouldn't be printable (is that still a major concern nowadays?) ——Serial 17:07, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The latter would be for me, as I sometimes print articles to show to others in person when doing so via the internet is not a useful option. My 85-y-o Father, for example, is not online and does not intend to become so. Also, some people still meet socially and pass around books, magazines, and printed-off academic papers and Wikipedia (etc.) articles of interest.

@Serial Number 54129: I'm not sure whether you want to vary which image is shown, or only vary where it is shown among other images. In either case, we don't do it in articles. {{Random slideshow}} and {{Transclude files as random slideshow}} are deliberately coded to not work in articles. Copying references from a different language[edit]

All you need to work out is what template is being used, and use the en-Wiki version of that. The only other thing to remember is to use |lang= and add the relevant language name. Mjroots (talk) 18:31, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you are using cs1|2 templates ({{cite book}}, {{cite web}}, etc) there may be an auto-translator available. There are auto-translators for some non-English templates for these languages:

Catalan, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish

In general, the auto-translator will produce a correctly formatted cs1|2 template from the source that will get subst'd by AnomieBot. The translations are not perfect so it is on you to make sure that the rendered result is correct. If the non-English template is supported by a translator, all you need to do is copy it from the source and paste it in the en.wiki article, preview, fix any errors, and publish.

If there isn't an auto-translator for your particular language, do us the courtesy of translating the template yourself so that others don't have to follow behind you cleaning up your mess.

Supported non-English templates are listed at Module:CS1 translator.

No longer able to access Newspapers.com Publisher Extra[edit]

I've had a subscription to Newspapers.com Publisher Extra for years through Wikipedia. I heavily rely on it for citations. I logged in today and searched but on every single newspaper result I click on, it says I don't have access to Publisher Extra and will need to pay.
