February 8[edit]

Why can't I edit the information? This is fake information[edit]

Why can't I edit the information? This is fake information. Cambodian often edit Thai Wikipedia and claim rights to Thai culture. What are you guys doing? Many Thai people are now unhappy with this, thai people can't see Cambodian claim muay thai and said they're original You need to fix this urgently because Muay Thai is the martial art of the Thai people not about bokator or Khmer. Ppntd (talk) 00:45, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ppntd: If this is about an article on the English Wikipedia, you may start a discussion on that article's talk page. If this is about a different Wikipedia, then you will need to ask there, as each Wikipedia has its own policies and guidelines on editing. RudolfRed (talk) 01:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Presumably this is about Muay Thai. That article is semi protected, which is why new accounts such as yours cannot edit it. Please make an edit request on the article's talk page to propose your change. See WP:SEMI Meters (talk) 01:10, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ppntd: Also, please be sure to provide published, reliable sources to support your proposal on the Talk page (which is at Talk:Muay Thai). Personal knowledge or opinions (one way or the other) should not be the basis for a Wikipedia article.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:33, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to resize a Wikivoyage banner image[edit]

Hi, I'm currently editing the Pittsburg, California Wikivoyage page, however I'm unsure how to crop the banner image I inserted. I'd appreciate any help. Armenshirazd (talk) 05:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You'll have to ask for help with Wikivoyage on Wikivoyage, which is a separate project. 331dot (talk) 09:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Armenshirazd: Hi there! It looks like you added the image to Wikimedia Commons at commons:Pittsburg Marina, Pittsburg California.jpg. You could use the commons:Commons:CropTool to crop the image within Commons. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:36, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Publishing pages[edit]

Hi, i want to publish my page in sandbox but i couldn't see "submit your draft for review" or publish buttons. Wikkispecialist (talk) 07:15, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:DRAFT. A sandbox version isn't a draft article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added {{userspace draft}}. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 08:47, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those buttons are provided if you create a draft via the Article Wizard instead of in your sandbox. 331dot (talk) 09:25, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Troubles with publishing English translation[edit]

Hello, I would like to ask for an advice: I would like to publish either an article in English or an English translation of a page/article that I have already published in Slovak. But when I try to create a new article in English, it says I don't have enough credible sources (although they are the same ones that were sufficient for the article in Slovak, and there are no other sources available for the article). And when I try to create an English "translation" of the article, it says that I am not an experienced editor and thus cannot publish such a translation. Could you please give me an advice on how I can publish the article in English or its English translation? I will be very grateful for any advice. Have a nice day. Edu.2022.wiki (talk) 12:03, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have the same requirements for sourcing that other Wikipedias do, and we require an article to be on a subject that meets our notability guidelines. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To add to what my esteemed colleague above wrote: articles translated from other languages are expected to meet English Wikipedia's notability guidelines; simply having an article on another Wikipedia project does not establish notability by itself. Lectonar (talk) 12:34, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Edu.2022.wiki: Do you refer to Draft:Periodic Evaluation of Research, Development, Artistic and Other Creative Activities? There are entire sections in that article (e.g. "The importance of evaluation", "Inspiration") with no sources. Why do unsourced edits get reverted, even for constructive edits?[edit]

This happened to Evansville, Wisconsin, Henry Vilas Zoo, and more. CyberTheTiger (talk) 14:17, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@cyberthetiger: because we need sources for edits. ltbdl (talk) 14:18, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you suspect another editor is schizophrenic, what should you do?[edit]

If you think another user is showing clear signs of being, say, schizophrenic, and also seems not to suspect this about himself or herself, what should you do? Specifically, should you inform someone about it, or even yourself inform the person about your belief that the person is schizophrenic? Polar Apposite (talk) 16:33, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely nothing...we do NOT offer medical help on Wikipedia please concentrate on editing. Theroadislong (talk) 17:39, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, one should not do that. But if an editor sincerely wanted to help a second editor know that he or she was schizophrenic, and thus have the option of seeking treatment (psychiatric medicine that suppresses the symptoms schizophrenia has existed and has been, more or less routinely, successfully used, albeit with some side effects, for several decades) from a psychiatrist, would it be allowed on Wikipedia for the first editor, during a disagreement with another editor, to share his or her suspicions, with the best of intentions, with the second editor, or with an administrator? Polar Apposite (talk) 11:07, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's an ad hominem argument and extremely disrespectful regardless of intention. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 12:35, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You wrote, "that's an ad hominem argument". Interesting point. Thanks for that. Polar Apposite (talk) 16:05, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, see Wikipedia:Medical disclaimer. TSventon (talk) 17:51, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can address disruptive behavior irrespective of the cause(like a medical condition) but we cannot diagnose or give medical advice. If someone is threatening themselves or others, see WP:EMERGENCY. 331dot (talk) 18:04, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Polar Apposite: I'm a schizophrenic editor. Please do not conflate schizophrenic with dumb or inane. John Forbes Nash Jr. was a schizophrenic and he won the Nobel prize. Some biographers speculate that Isaac Newton was a paranoid schizophrenic. I don't know if Nikola Tesla was a schizophrenic, but he was certainly insane.
I'm also a member of Mensa International (Dutch branch) and I have graduated twice from research universities. tgeorgescu (talk) 19:13, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. That's what I thought. But just to be as clear as possible, I posted a follow up question as a reply to Theroadislong, and I would appreciale any thoughts you may care to share. Polar Apposite (talk) 11:13, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I won't conflate schizophrenic with dumb or inane. A lot of very talented people have been schizophrenic. Here is a list of a few famous schizophrenics: List of people with schizophrenia. Polar Apposite (talk) 11:25, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. Please also see my follow up question that I posted as a reply to Theroadislong. Polar Apposite (talk) 11:09, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Polar Apposite The question has been answered. This is beginning to look a lot like trolling. Counterfeit Purses (talk) 16:23, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken. In fact, I had already decided not to ask any more questions about this topic for the foreseeable future. Polar Apposite (talk) 16:41, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should the names of the perpetrators in articles about a murder be made bold?[edit]

Some pages like Murder of James Bulger render the names of the murderers in bold. Other articles do not, making just the victim's name bold. Which practice is better? Nullh1ve (talk) 18:50, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Nullh1ve: If there is a redirect from the perpetrator's name to the article, then the name should be bold. This now shifts your question to whether or not there should be a redirect. More or less: if there is a reason for the redirect (e.g. enough press coverage but not enough for an actual article), add it. -Arch dude (talk) 19:18, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BUSINESS NAME CHANGE[edit]

HELLO, OUR COMPANY 'THE BALLPARK OF THE PALM BEACHES' HAS RECENTLY GONE THROUGH A NAME CHANGE, OUR NEW NAME IS 'CACTI PARK OF THE PALM BEACHES'. HOW CAN I GET THIS CHANGED? CACTIPARKPB (talk) 20:21, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CACTIPARKPB: Hi there! Since you have a conflict of interest, you should not be changing the article directly. Instead, you may post an edit request on the article's talk page, Talk:The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, with a reliable published source. You may also use the Wikipedia:Edit request wizard if you like. (When you post the request, please don't SHOUT at the volunteers here.) Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 20:30, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Full replacements[edit]

 – Added section header. GoingBatty (talk) 20:30, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are requests to fully replace an existing article ever okayed? Augnablik (talk) 20:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Augnablik: if necessary, yes. See Wikipedia:Blow it up and start over. Discuss this in the article's talk page, and if a consensus develops, then do it. This is generally a last resort. -Arch dude (talk) 20:35, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Arch dude. Interesting title of that information. Blowing up an existing article and starting over is exactly what I'd like to do, if at all possible. I wonder if there are some examples of when that was agreed to and on what basis. Augnablik (talk) 03:51, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Augnablik: See WP:TNT for when this might be possible. It is usually better to improve the article in small chunks rather than change the whole thing in one go. The best place to start is by starting a discussion on the article's talk page. RudolfRed (talk) 20:37, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, RudolfRed. I knew the general advice was to start small in a discussion somewhere — apparently on the article's talk page, from what you mentioned. But in the case of the article which I'd like to replace because of the sheer number of both updates and other modifications I believe are required, I do believe there's reason to apply the TNT alluded to in the title of the information you suggested that I read.
Before coming to know of the TNT article and another one that Arch dude suggested, I thought it just seemed so incredible that the needed changed would have to move at a snail's pace.
I hope I can make the case for applying TNT successfully, as it would save a lot of time for both me and the Wiki editors who'd otherwise have to look over each change one by one — let alone to make the new information quickly available to many people interested in the person who's the subject of the article and his many publications. Augnablik (talk) 04:04, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template for article/section comprehensibility[edit]

I'm curious if there's a template which can be added to articles or sections thereof which are incomprehensible (extremely poor grammar, missing words, etc.). Kr0ndstat (talk) 21:10, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kr0ndstat: {{Confusing}} might be what you're looking for. There is also a list at Wikipedia:Template_index/Cleanup RudolfRed (talk) 21:14, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
{{Confusing}} works perfectly. Thanks! Kr0ndstat (talk) 21:18, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
