[edit]Hey there! I just translated an article from the Spanish Wikipedia under a user page (User:LeafGreen/sandbox/ARTMS) and now I want to move it into ARTMS but it already exists as a redirection, where can I find some help with this? - Hello, Gocoolit. Please note that the presence or absence of an infobox will not affect whether a draft is accepted or not. What will affect this, overwhelmingly, is whether or not you have adequate sources to establish notability. At present, you do not: two of the sources are largely interviews, and so no indpendent of her; the other merely mentions her.
- Unless you have several sources, each of which is 1) reliably published, 2) wholly indepedent of Walton-Desir, and 3) contains significant coverage of her, then your draft will not be accepted.
- If follows that every single moment you spend on doing anything at all other than finding sources which meet the criteria (see WP:42 for a summary) runs the risk of being effort wasted. This is first because if you cannot find the sources, the article will not be accepted in any form; and secondly because if you do find the sources, you may have to rewrite your work because (with limited exceptions) any information not in the independent sources may not go into the article.
- Note also that external links are not permitted in the body of an article: they should be removed or converted into citations.
- Also, here is my standard advice for people who plunge into trying to create an article when they have only just started editing Wikipedia: If you were starting to learn engineering, would you make your first project to build a car from scratch? If you took up a musical instrument, would you arrange a public recital as the first thing you did? No, you would practise on less demanding projects while you learnt the craft.
I would very strongly advise you that you will save yourself a great deal of frustration and disappointment if you forget about creating a new article for several months, while you gradually learn about how Wikipedia works (and most particularly about Verifiability, reliable sources, and Neutral point of view) by making improvements to some of our six million existing articles.. - @Amitesh560093: From a quick look, it has no references. See WP:REFB. You should not link to LinkedIn, etc per WP:NOSOCIAL. See also WP:YFA for additional guidance. If you took up a musical instrument, would you arrange a public recital as the first thing you did? No, you would practise on less demanding projects while you learnt the craft.
I would very strongly advise you that you will save yourself a great deal of frustration and disappointment if you forget about creating a new article for several months, while you gradually learn about how Wikipedia works (and most particularly about Verifiability, reliable sources, and Neutral point of view) by making improvements to some of our six million existing articles.. - Note also that creating an article about somebody you are connected to is even harder, because of your possible conflict of interest. - @TKohli:I am heartened to hear that you want to contribute to building the encyclopedia. Please know that writing text is the easy part. For it to be an article, you must use source code, and this takes some practice. Before writing your article, it can be good to do some copy edit work. You might look HERE as a way to begin with some simple tasks. Also, the Teahouse is a wonderful resource for beginners and novice users when one has a question. Use of Picture

- @Angshuman deb If you click on an image in a WP-article, like Coinage of India, the new page you arrive at will have information on the "Licensing" of that particular image, see File:Rajuvula_coin_Northern_Satrap_with_Greek_legend_and_Athena_Alkidemos.jpg for an example. Online Translators?
[edit]If there's no article for a given language, is it ok to use online translators (eg. Google Translate or Glosbe) to translate an article into that language? It can't be much worse than the alternative of just not having the article. O.ALGIERS.o (talk) 14:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @O.ALGIERS.o: If someone's using machine translations, they need to verify that everything it processes is accurate and edit out its shortcomings. As the bottom of the section reads:

- That is the answer for en Wikipedia, other language versions will have their own policies. If you are interested in translating into a different language you could check the foreign language links at Wikipedia:Translation. Computational human phantom article needs updating
[edit]The article entitled Computational human phantom is in need of updating. I first read the page about 9 years ago -- it has not been substantially updated since then. I have content to add to the page about a set of computational phantoms developed mainly in Switzerland. This set of phantoms includes animal phantoms, thus, I propose that the title of the article be changed to Computational phantoms; I have read about how to use the move function to change a title. Move/Delete wrongly-capitalized redirect?
[edit]If a redirect has been created that has the wrong capitalization, do I request deletion? The deletion help page mentions trying to move the page instead, but that does not seem the way to handle a redirect.

- Kimen8, the redirect you linked is probably fine as WP:RPURPOSE includes
Likely alternative capitalizations (for example, Natural Selection redirects to Natural selection). This is not necessary for user searches made via Wikipedia's search engine, but may aid linking from other articles and external sites, as well as direct URL entry.

- It doesn't match any of the items at WP:R#DELETE, so I would class it as harmless and not worth the effort from other editors to delete it. Have you read Wikipedia:Redirects are cheap and Wikipedia:Redirects are costly? You could try nominating at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion and see what happens.
Fixing article on DHCP, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
[edit]I can't figure out how to fix it, but there's a reference template used at "Offer", IIRC. The basic document defining DHCP is RFC2131, which is already referenced at the bottom. It defines the whole 4-way protocol. (Basically, a programmer/sysadmin is expected by other programmers/sysadmins to KNOW that everything about the internet is defined in RFCs. When are pings sent?
[edit]I don't quite get the "pings". I thought that a user gets a ping only when I add the "@" symbol, like this: @Z80Spectrum. However, one user is complaining that I'm pinging him, and apparently I have mentioned him without the "@", like this: Z80Spectrum. So, obviously, I don't understand when the pings are sent. Best way to ask for collaboration in developing "Fishing industry in [country]" articles?
[edit]It's come to my attention that there is a severe lack of or development of "Fishing industry in [country]" articles. I think this a pretty major issue, so I went to the wikiproject fisheries and fishing talk page; however, I've observed pretty clearly that the wikiproject is severely lacking activity (may as well be considered dead), and, looking at previous topics posted on the talk page, it's obvious that my concern will be "ignored". So, I'm hoping that there is either a better place, or here, that I can ask for help in collaboration to develop "Fishing industry in [country] articles. Thank you! - You may have noticed this already, but I have added another seventeen (or so) articles to Category:Fishing industry by country. There are another ten or so articles starting with Fishing in, such as Fishing in India. Further articles could be translated, such as fr:Pêche en France or es:Producción pesquera en Uruguay, although translated articles may need work to make them suitable for en Wikipedia. In terms of translations, I think, rather than translating, it would be better to start from scratch in order to avoid problems with references, indirect translations, and other issues. - @SonOfYoutubers: I would try moving the "fishing in [country]" articles as long as they are about the local fishing industry. If you can't move some of them, then you could try Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests.
- You may not get much response to requests for help in writing the articles. Many wikiprojects are semi- or inactive and editors will generally only write articles about topics that interest them. TSventon (talk) 11:40, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
