How I add image[edit]

How can I add imagein wiki Sravanok2123 (talk) 03:04, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sravanok2123: See Help:Images and be sure to read Wikipedia:Image use policy. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:33, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Sravanok2123. I see you are a new user, so welcome. You did not specify which wiki to which you desire to add images. If you wish to add images to Wikimedia Commons, look HERE. If you have a specific image you desire to use in an article, you must first upload it to the Commons. Then you may use that image to insert it into an article. Just follow the instructions and prompts on the Commons page and you will be uploading images quickly. Kind regards to all,Hu Nhu (talk) 21:23, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lichen: out of date info in articles cited[edit]

2016 research changed the scientific picture of lichen, but many of the citations in the article are from before then, and do not agree with current knowledge. Is there a way to delete such out-of-date information, or ??? I can't find anything in help, and I experimented with no success. Linddaski (talk) 04:39, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy link: lichen. I agree that extensive changes may be needed. Whoever undertakes updates is going to need recent knowledge of lichen biology, as well as understanding of Wikipedia policy. The sources added by Linddaski are, I believe, reliable. They say that some, or maybe many, lichens have symbiotic yeasts, as well as fungi and cyanobacteria. But I don't think they claim this for all lichen species, so most the content of the article may still be valid. Maproom (talk) 08:49, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MOS sentence length[edit]

Morning Folks!! Quick query. Is there is anything in the WP:MOS about sentence length? Thanks. scope_creepTalk 10:53, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The lead says Editors should write articles using straightforward, succinct, easily understood language, but I can't find anything specifically about sentence length. TSventon (talk) 12:41, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is succint and straightforward and easily understood, so by the looks of it, should be ok. Thanks TSventon scope_creepTalk 17:46, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Removing white space[edit]

Hi, could someone remove the white space from the top of Morristown, New Jersey#Notable people, then I can see how it's done, for future reference. Thanks, UniversalBowman (talk) 12:13, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@UniversalBowman: I can't see any excess white space (on Windows 10 Chrome browser). There's the heading, a "See also" notice, the introductory single sentence, then the list; on the right, starting at the "See also" notice are right-aligned vertically-stacked floating images. Bazza 7 (talk) 12:47, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bazza. Ah yes. Sorry about that. I was viewing it in Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge. Thanks anyway for looking at it. I see it's fine in Edge standard. UniversalBowman (talk) 13:54, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User talk page archiving[edit]

Hi. Is there any way for a bot to archive old topics on user talk pages, such as mine, faster? I currently use ClueBot III but it still hasn't archived topics from 2 months ago. Thanks. CanonNi (talk) 13:31, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CanonNi: Fixed here; change "90d" ("90 days") to your preferred number of days. Note that it counts from the last edit in the relevant section. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:38, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! CanonNi (talk) 13:41, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pigsonthewing I don't mean to bother you but there's a small issue. The "Index" link redirects to this page, which doesn't show new archives made by sigmabot. Could you please take a look? Thanks. CanonNi (talk) 00:28, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CanonNi. I've reenabled archive indexing on your Talk page. The link will show a blank page for a while, until the bot kicks in. If you don't see anything on that page after a couple of days, please ask again. I may be away by then, so to attract attention if nobody responds, you can add {{HelpMe}} below, along with your question or comment. (You could also do that from your own Talk page, so you'll always be able to find your question again; this discussion will disappear from here when it gets to the third day after you started it.) Mathglot (talk) 02:27, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The bot has fixed it. Thank you so much! CanonNi (talk) 03:28, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Larger non-English Wikipedia articles[edit]

I'm looking to see if there is a tool or resource that can highlight the largest gulfs in size between articles in non-English Wikipedias and their corresponding English articles, to get ideas on where to contribute by building out English versions. I searched the Wikipedia department directory and was unable to determine where the best place to ask this question would be, and there doesn't seem to be an answer on WP:Translation either.

Is there a good place to go with this question? Kwkintegrator (talk) 17:01, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwkintegrator I think this is a reasonable place, but if you don't get a good reply here, you can try Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:05, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kwkintegrator: Doesn't really answer your question about size discrepancies, but you may want to take a look at Category:Articles needing translation from foreign-language Wikipedias. If you go to a subcategory about a language you're interested in, that subcategory will contain articles that have been tagged as needing expansion from the relevant-language WP's articles. Christian Religious Anniversaries[edit]

WHY DOES EASTER ALWAYS FALL AT THE WEEKEND AND WHY DOES GOOD FRIDAY? WHAT WAS GOOD ABOUT IT? 2A02:C7C:36B2:8400:4C98:A892:31B3:6238 (talk) 18:28, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The articles Easter and Good Friday should tell you all you need to know. Theroadislong (talk) 18:31, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sivananga Saraswati[edit]

Major Error in Sivananda Saraswati page.

It lists Swami Shantananda Saraswati, founder of the Temple of Fine Arts as a disciple, which is correct.

But when Shantananda Saraswati is clicked on, it takes the reader to a different Shantananda Saraswati, who is not Sivananda Saraswati's disciple. 2A01:4B00:AB2B:DA00:B826:6DE8:1B18:5D87 (talk) 19:00, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you IP, I have removed the link and left a note. The link seems to have been correct until 2019, when a two sentence article about the disciple was Wikipedia:Redirected to an article about another man with a similar name. TSventon (talk) 20:08, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image Vandalism Guidance[edit]

Hello, I need some anti-vandalism guidance. Hope this is an ok place to ask.

User:2600:6C67:487F:C30E:6848:533C:B268:64A3 is currently swapping photos of heads of state with an image of purported "Pakastani social leader Merrick." You can see the contributions here. Users edits have been reverted, and I have given a 4im warning.

I know this is isn't Commons, but is there a way to flag the image for Wikipedia edits or ask for the deletion of the image on Commons? It appears to be a vandalism only image. I know the Commons deletion requests exists. I guess I am asking, what would you do in this scenario where there seems to be a link between vandalism between Commons and Wikipedia? Thanks in advance! Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 20:02, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked the IP range on this wiki, which should help a bit. This probably isn't the best venue generally to ask for it, but it worked. WP:AIV might have worked in this particular case, or at a push ANI. Commons has a convenient link in the sidebar to nominate an image for deletion. If you link the IP's contributions, along with a description saying how utterly useless the image is, I'd wager it will get deleted. Commons deletion is a bit random, but I get the impression you need an actual reason to keep a useless image that is being used for vandalism. Also btw check out WP:64. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:19, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The image has now been deleted on Commons. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:02, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
