Uploaded by Mentalvik (notify | contribs). The image is supposedly the cover of LCD Soundsystem's second album Sound of Silver which does not release until late March 2007. There's nothing official from the band itself that this is the cover of the new album. Uploaded by Theradioguy (notify | contribs). The image says it's released into the public domain, but carries a link to a soft porn site in the summary. Is this appropriate? I didn't scan the site closely enough to discover whether it's a copyrighted image there.

Update: when I went to user:Theradioguy to notify him that the image had been listed, I found that two similar images had been deleted earlier this month. DanB†DanD 09:19, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - The notification to the user has been corrected as it did not provide the name of the image nominated correctly. Also, the previously nominated and deleted images (they were nominated by me) were not similar in nature - one was an orphaned duplicate and the other was a personal photo. The noted site in the summary is the link to the location of the image, it is very appropriate to have it listed - and it also is not a porn site. The webpage is a free membership required site which I am a member of - I will check out this evening about the copyright issue. Also of note, this image is not an orphan - it is in use in three different articles. Here is a quote from the site's rules and FAQ, "No copyrighted material: Don't upload images from other sites if the material is copyrighted." Oh, thanks for adding the article notifications. My concern is mainly that this is a kind of "stealth spam" for the website. If it's allowed, it would be very easy for similar ad-supported sites to have their employees upload free content which is linked back to their member profiles, thus harvesting clicks and maybe new registrations.

If he owns the image personally as its creator, why is there a need to inform Wikipedia of another webspace to which he happens to have uploaded it, but which has no rights to the image? It smacks of shilling to me. DanB†DanD 01:54, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The image claims GFDL/CC-self dual licence, but uploader does not claim to be Miltos Manetas; the website doesn't claim GFDL/CC, but apparently the idea of the art movement was to abuse copyright. In addition, ethnolinguistic map is not a population distribution map. Han Chinese is not just distributed in the brown colored regions.
