  • The 10bn-euro nuclear fusion reactor ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) will be built near Cadarache in southern France. (...) project participants said in a joint declaration after their meeting here (at the Moscow conference) Tuesday. [1] - background: [2]. This agreement seems quite significant to me, both on the scientific and international fronts. --Edcolins June 28, 2005 09:46 (UTC)
    • May I offer an alternative arrangement: Cadarache, in southern France, has been chosen as the site for the 10-billion ITER experimental nuclear fusion reactor. --Kitch 28 June 2005 11:52 (UTC)
      • Adding a dot at the end of the sentence would be better. Too bad I can't do it myself. Cheers. --Edcolins June 28, 2005 12:41 (UTC)
      • Also the image is labelled as "Flag of Bulgaria"! --Edcolins June 28, 2005 12:44 (UTC)

        • The image is not {{Mprotected}}. BTW, the copyright status of the image is unknown. Should it be on the Main Page ? And, please add a full stop. Thanks. -- 28 June 2005 13:49 (UTC)

That one's pushing it. ;) Then again, we had all those World Cup and US Open ones... --Golbez 18:46, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
C'mon ... Is there a basketball league in the world with a higher profile and an international following than the NBA ? The NBA Finals were definitely in the headlines in many newspapers around the world. -- 64.229.224.205 12:34, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The Detroit Pistons winning the NBA Finals was posted on ITN last year, why not this year ? -- 199.71.174.100 17:45, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Which news story should I remove to fit this one? Is this more important than any of those? This link is Broken 17:52, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Please displace the oldest one. Thanks. -- 199.71.174.100 18:21, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I concur. There is so much room on the right side on the Front Page, perhaps we don't need to remove anything. -- 64.229.207.200 23:32, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The blank space on the right side of the Front Page disappeared yesterday because the Featured Article was very short. The blank space is now back. -- 64.229.225.42 28 June 2005 03:37 (UTC)
The blank space has disappeared once again, this time due to a very, very long DYK. ...sigh... -- 64.229.221.245 28 June 2005 12:21 (UTC)
The blank space is back. -- 199.71.174.100 29 June 2005 20:08 (UTC) Gone again with another short Featured Article. :-) Never mind. -- 199.71.174.100 30 June 2005 01:18 (UTC)

Flag of Iran President Ahmadinejad.

It's a bit long and should probably link to the article on the case Kelo v. New London. I'd fix it up myself but it's almost 1:30 now and I'd proably make 10 gramatical errorrs. I need some sleep. This link is Broken 05:20, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Shortened and linked. - Ta bu shi da yu 05:52, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'd love to put it up, but you know we'd get complaints about ITN being US-centric. We already have Killen on there, I'm surprised they didn't raise holy hell about that one. --Golbez 06:38, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
To avoid such complaints I removed killin when adding this one. This link is Broken 11:30, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
"#European hegemony" again ?  :-) A second US item is probably not too bad.... -- 199.71.174.100 15:32, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Flag of Iran President Mohammad Khatami of Iran

  • Voters in Iran cast their ballots among seven candidates to succeed President Mohammad Khatami in the 2005 Iranian presidential election. -- Ddye 19:03, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC), revised 64.229.221.114 21:48, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • My personal feeling is that "proceedings" don't count. Voting doesn't count; only the result of the vote matters. Others may disagree. However, once we have a victor, then this will certainly be ITN-worthy. --Golbez 03:18, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
    • I see your point, but there is precedent for this: the UK General Election in May, and the Dutch and French EU referenda votes all were reported in progress (and I'm sure there are older examples). I think that the attention the Iranian vote has received makes this as significant an event as those. But in any case I supppose we should wait now until we get official word on who'll be in the run-off. Ddye 13:09, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • The article does not have this information, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious place to put it. Please read the criteria. Strange that there is no G8 Finance Ministers Meeting article. - BanyanTree 13:29, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Now that the blurb on Qur'an desecration is the third item, maybe a new pic is in order. How about this photo of Jack Straw to go with the current top news item ? -- 199.71.174.100 00:57, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • In tennis, Justine Henin-Hardenne beats Mary Pierce 6-1, 6-1 to win the women's singles title in the 2005 French Open. (Please add this, but NOT as the top news, though. Thanks.) -- 64.229.223.240 15:23, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • I've added it. Items aren't ranked in order of importance, but rather the order in which they occurred. (Six minutes - not bad!) — Dan | Talk 15:29, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the rapid response. I'm impressed. :-) If we are going chronologically, should the blurb on Guantánamo Bay Qur'an desecration move down a bit ? Or is it on top just to go with the photo ? -- 64.229.4.103 03:11, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Natalie Glebova, representing Canada, won the 2005 Miss Universe Pageant in Bangkok about a day before the Spelling Bee was held.
    • Right. Very important news... I'd rather see Miss Universe up there on ITN. This at least has international relevance... And she is prettier. :-) -- 64.229.5.138 14:06, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Did I miss something? Is it April Fools Day again?
      • Please remove this one quickly. Shouldn't be there at first place. No international relevance. --Edcolins 19:39, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)
        • International relevance is required? Ideally, but we sometimes have major stories not of international relevance; for example, I first heard about Jim McGreevy's resignation on ITN. Edcolins, would you rather have some football score over news like that, just because the two teams were from different sides of an imaginary line? --Golbez 20:23, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)

    • Blurbs need links to Wikipedia articles that contain the updated information. See the criteria. - BanyanTree 17:32, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • Oh come on, I know this. I didn't have the time to look for the links. —Cantus 17:59, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
    • The European Constitution article does contain the information, but I don't think we have a more specific article, as we do with the Dutch and French referenda. Accordingly, this shouldn't go on ITN.-gadfium 23:44, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
