What to expect
[edit]Please join us for a fun event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts--art, architecture, design, landscape architecture and related fields. Despite its wide reach, Wikipedia suffers from a severe gender imbalance: since most editors are men, articles conform to men's interests and perspectives. In an effort to change this, we are gathering a diverse group together to celebrate women's cultural achievements.
We will provide tutorials for Wikipedia newcomers, reference materials, and snacks. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. Stop by for a little bit or stay for the whole afternoon. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary!
If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia, you might try this training module which will help explain a lot of things, including how to add your signature (by the way, signatures are created by saving four tildes [~] in a row).

[edit]- FemTechNet is a network of scholars, artists, and students working on, with, and at the borders of technology, science, and feminism in a variety of fields including Science & Technology Studies (STS), Media and Visual Studies, Art, Gender, Queer, and Ethnic Studies. The collective's main project is a pedagogical experiment called the distributed open collaborative course. The course theme to date has centered on Dialogues and Collaborations in Feminism and Technology, but can connect to diverse course offerings connected to feminism, science and technology studies, and STEAM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art+Design, and Math).
- Recovering Prairie Futures is an IPRH research cluster that offers a cross-disciplinary exploration into the Midwest's layered innovation histories that have often been overshadowed by innovation narratives focused on dominant regions and centers of computing. A "Design Dialogues" speakers series will begin this semester (spring 2016) with a talk from Anne Balsamo at the NCSA Colloquia series at 11am on Friday, April 22. More details forthcoming.
