[edit]Labor Day

- This is not the correct forum for idle talk. This is the place to ask factual questions if you have tried, and failed, to find the answers elsewhere. Please read the instructions at the top of the page. --Jayron32 01:13, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
I Have Trouble With Passwords
[edit]Wikipedia I Have Trouble With Passwords Can You Help me Please I'm not being Disruptive I'm on My Best Behaviour. 68.103.78.83 (talk) 00:13, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- If you forgot your password, you can have it emailed to you by following the instructions when you try to log in to your account. If you did not register an email account when you logged in, you can just create a new account and do so. In the future, this is not the correct venue for these questions. You can ask them at Wikipedia:Help desk. If you do get your password problem worked out, just don't forget it again. --Jayron32 01:12, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- In the future, you may benefit from using software to manage your passwords - List_of_password_managers. SemanticMantis (talk) 14:10, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- You didn't say what problem you have with passwords. If remembering them is a problem, I suggest mnemonics. For example, "I want to eat 2 French fries with Susan" = "Iw2e2FfwS". That's a complex enough password, incorporating mixed case and numbers, and no English words, but it can still be remembered. StuRat (talk) 14:16, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Or use this easy method to give you a password that is more secure and easier to remember [1]. SemanticMantis (talk) 14:23, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- I see a couple problems with that method (using a long PW with all random common English words). First, remembering the order of the words might be hard. Second, there is a quick (for a computer) way to break it, by just trying all common English words that add up to the right length. (I'd start from longest words and work down to smaller words.) StuRat (talk) 14:47, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Um, password length is not known to attackers, nor is it known that a specific user is using this system. Whatever, I thought the OP might find it useful, and a general discussion of password security off topic here. SemanticMantis (talk) 15:42, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- They should know the max and min PW lengths allowed, so start from one and work towards the other. StuRat (talk) 15:58, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
