Wishing well

[edit]

There are lots of ways that Teahouse can still be improved, and you can help!

Before you propose or build a new feature for the project, please have a look at Teahouse's design/build guidelines.

Mentor request

Keep a mentor (a guide for new learners) for Wikipedia teahouse so that new Users can get help from that.

New wishes

[edit]

Categorisation of Requests

[edit]

The use of a template for questions would improve the page in a copious number of ways in my view. However, the most pertinent, and the one which I think would be most useful, would be to have guests categorise their requests, enabling hosts to divide and conquer by forming focus groups for areas where they have the most experience, and decreasing the time to response for many questions. If extended, it could notify hosts with an interest in specific areas when a question relating to their field has been posed, enhancing the end-user experience immeasurably. Improved Interface

[edit]

I noticed above the page of the Teahouse's Question Forum that there are some of the parameters left, you can remove it and replace it with a long wallpaper of the theme's beautiful pictures. On the right side, the question archive can move to the left, some users are apparently used that way, and also making it more expandable. Also, adding the list of Teahouse related articles like /badges and others besides the Guest Profiles, and the idea that I had for it is to have "Teacups" which has many other Teahouse related articles. You can just add it at the menu of Teahouse, and let the users pick one of the "Teacups" and done. Also, add a rule that regards about questions that aren't related with the Teahouse and Wikipedia. I found it misleading sometimes. CryOceD (talk) 16:35, 22 May 2015.

Option to report something that is found annoying. Through this the user can report anything that is found annoying and the Hosts could check it.Asif Rasheed

Easy input form for guest profile creation

[edit]

A gadget that makes it easy for a new guest to create their profile without editing a template: Ideally we'd give them a fill-in form that creates a profile box without showing quite as much code. Siko (talk) 20:01, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer rating

[edit]

A system for upvoting answers to a question (like Quora or StackOverflow), so people can get/give simple feedback on good answers. Siko (talk) 20:01, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be very difficult because firstly there are lot of questions asked daily and secondly same questions are often asked. KomchiLet's talkWhat I have done 15:17, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible that an instant link to Tea House be provided to new users as and when they create their accounts... Also a bit of a differentiation between Advanced users' questions and beginner users' questions as it can get a bit too overwhelming.Ajayupai95 (talk) 04:12, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ajayupai95, about your instant link idea, we do have a bot that finds the newest members who edit a lot and tells them about the Teahouse automatically, but for a link to be given to any new member would a) create a large influx of people which can lead to overwhelming overloads of questions etc. and b) there would have to be coding within Wikipedia itself to display this, unless we edited our bot to send a message to every new player not just high editors. Thanks for leaving your ideas! Dathus Talk 12:27, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Script for moving sections up/down

[edit]

Add functionality to the User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/teahouseUtility.js to allow hosts to move sections "to top" (⇑), "up one" (↑), or "down one" (↓)... I can't see of any need to move them to the "bottom" (⇓) Technical 13 (talk) 00:32, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This should be fairly easy to do with DOM. I'll research it and would love to hear other ideas/suggestions to accomplish this. Technical 13 (talk) 00:32, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing questions for inclusion in Wikipedia's FAQs

[edit]

Someone should do a review of questions for possible inclusion in the appropriate FAQ section on Wikipedia. If it has already been asked and answered, it will help new people learn about where to look for answers to common questions. New questions that get added should certainly help qualify the asker for a Great Question badge.Aggie80 (talk) 21:13, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This may be a tough sell to the Bot Approval Group, but I'm willing to work with you on it. Refer to the original HostBot Invite Approval discussion for some of the arguments that will likely be raised if we pursue this proposal. - J-Mo Talk to Me Email Me 00:51, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HostBot request: Invite unblocked users

[edit]

Send out Teahouse invitations for users upon being unblocked. Technical 13 (talk) 00:24, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While a nice opportunity to give guidance and a clean start to unblocked editors, these tend to be some of the more troublesome folks and might not fit well into the community, at least not without disrupting the positive atmosphere first before they learn its ways. I'm a bit concerned that it's not worth the risk. Ocaasi t | c 20:41, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Badges: One-click great Q&A badges

[edit]

Similar to the Talkback links in Q&A page messages, a one-click link to give a great question or great answer badge. Ocaasi t | c 20:29, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ocaasi, this shouldn't be too hard to add to Writ Keeper's current TB script; however, when do these types of links start causing that to become "crowded"? Perhaps a single link that clicking on would expand into a dropdown style list of options? This would be a little more complicated but provide a better final result and allow for future expansion. Technical 13 (talk) 17:32, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Writ Keeper, what do you think? Can we do these links and the TB and C links all in a dropdown menu instead of as a row of 3, 4, or more links attached to their talk page link? Technical 13 (talk) 04:25, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't think this should be attached to my script at all. It should be separate; my script is too naive about what constitutes a signature. It's fine for a user script, but not so fine for these steenking badges, I think. Writ Keeper  04:27, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very, very often it's useful or even necessary to check a user's contributions before answering their question. As a contributions link isn't part of default signatures, could we add this (a "C") alongside the "TB" that appears with the Teahouse scripts?
