If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Mount Kaba, IIbaraki → Mount Kaba, Ibaraki (currently a redirect instead to Mount Kaba (Ibaraki)) (move · discuss) – I made the name change, but I made a mistake, by putting Ibaraki with a double I. The system does not let me correct it, or I do not know how to correct it. Place names in Japan, form: name, prefecture. Examples: Mito, Ibaraki, Machida, Tokyo, Hannan, Osaka. For this case it should be: Mount Kaba, Ibaraki Jkasutoro (talk) 01:54, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- A.S. Watson Group → AS Watson (currently a redirect back to A.S. Watson Group) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME as used as official website Deboulie (talk) 01:00, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Kyaukme, Shan State → Kyaukme (move · discuss) – Unnecessary disamb between administrative divisions and the district capital town of Kyaukme. Kyaukme Dam isn't the primary topic either EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 00:20, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Evening Standard British Film Awards 2009 → Evening Standard British Film Awards 2008 (currently a redirect instead to Evening Standard British Film Awards 2007) (move · discuss) – The article's description stated that the 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards are intended to honor British and Irish films of 2008 and just happen to be held the following year and not at the end of the filmmaking year like the BIFA Awards do, for example. Even the Evening Standard British Film Awards main article itself refers to 2009 winners as 2008 ones (see that year in the 2001–2010 Winners section), so to avoid confusion, it is better to be renamed according to the main page article. LordTort (talk) 17:29, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- OMD → OMD (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to OMD) (move · discuss) – Seems a WP:UCS move, since the popular band has two official monikers in "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" and "OMD", being billed as the latter on almost all of their releases since 1983. This move would allow for the OMD page to be redirected to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (I'd suggest that some 99% of people punching in the letters "OMD" are looking for the 40 million-selling chart group), with disambiguation notes added at the top of the article, in the style of Electric Light Orchestra (who are in an identical situation with their acronym, ELO). Thanks. Paulie302 (talk) 22:12, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Waddington International Air Show → Waddington International Airshow (currently a redirect instead to RAF Waddington) (move · discuss) – 'Waddington International Airshow' is the correct official title, as indicated by its official logo and former official website. Militum professio scriniarii (talk) 16:17, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- {{RMassist/core | 1 = Hollywood blacklist | 2 = Hollywood Blacklisting | discuss = | reason = First, the word "blacklist" should be capitalized. Second, the article is not merely a list of those who were blacklisted, but rather a documentation of the entire phenomenon. Thus, it should be named "Hollywood Blacklisting", as it refers to the lead up, diedown, and specific people and grander background politics involved. | Narfhead4444, Gamer Ordinare 17:31, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Chlornaltrexamine → β-Chlornaltrexamine (currently a redirect back to Chlornaltrexamine) (restricted by the titleblacklist, which page movers can override) (move · discuss) – Much more widely used form of its name in the literature and to distinguish from its epimer α-chlornaltrexamine. See also the analogue β-funaltrexamine. Title can be beta-Chlornaltrexamine instead if needed, but the 'β' is used in other page titles and I think should be okay. 98.191.202.231 (talk) 20:47, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Rahasane turlough → Rahasane Turlough (currently a redirect back to Rahasane turlough) (move · discuss) – uppercase for Turlough, consistent with Loughs and the article's sources Declangi (talk) 21:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Reggie and me (currently a redirect to Reggie Mantle) → Reggie and Me (move · discuss) – Correct capitalization Mvcg66b3r (talk) 02:21, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences → Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (currently a redirect back to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences) (move · discuss) – The university's name has been officially changed to its original name, which is widely cited by many sources as the common name. The current article title is no longer effective, as the name was only used for two years and is now irrelevant. Since the target name is a redirect, I was unable to complete a straightforward move. My attempt was reverted, citing a 'copy-paste move' as the reason. I am requesting assistance with this issue. 456legendtalk 02:35, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
[edit]- ACC Men's Asia Cup → Asia Cup (currently a redirect back to ACC Men's Asia Cup) (move · discuss) – Please revert this undiscussed move. The official name is not the WP:COMMONNAME, They need to seek consensus for the intended name. Chanaka L (talk) 03:11, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
[edit]
- Concision → Succinctness (currently a redirect back to Concision) (move · discuss) – Much more widely used per number of Google and Google Books results. ModernDaySlavery (talk) 22:33, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- @ModernDaySlavery "Concision" is definitely the common name here. See ngrams for example. C F A 💬 13:24, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:CONCISE. --Ahecht (TALK

- Newark Venture Partners → Nvp captial (move · discuss) – firm went through a rebrand with new name and website- see nvpcap.com Jlsolomon74 (talk) 15:05, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Jlsolomon74 Can you provide significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article where the "nvp capital" name is used. A Google search for that term mostly turns up results for Norwest Venture Partners. --Ahecht (TALK

- John Shaffer (politician) → John Wilson Shaffer (currently a redirect back to John Shaffer (politician)) (move · discuss) – per WP:NATURAL. Considering that John Shaffer (baseball) is also John W. Shaffer, and that John D. Shaffer fulfulls WP:NPOL, "John W. Shaffer" or "John Shaffer (politician)" both are incomplete disambiguation, and/or redirects with history. Vycl1994 (talk) 04:40, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Vycl1994 Per WP:MIDDLENAME,
Adding given names, or their abbreviations, merely for disambiguation purposes (if that format of the name is not commonly used to refer to the person) is not advised.
. A better disambiguation would be something like (Iowa politician) and (Utah politician) --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 14:10, 13 September 2024 (UTC) - The source cited at John D. Shaffer indicates that page is currently at its WP:COMMONNAME title, so I do not see a need for it to be moved to John Shaffer (Iowa politician). Of the cited inline sources, all three mention the Utahn by his full name. However, most sources in the further reading section refer to him as J. Wilson Shaffer. In light of WP:CONCISE:
Exceptions exist for biographical articles. For example, given names and family names are usually not omitted or abbreviated for the purposes of concision
, perhaps John Shaffer (governor), which is currently a redirect with history, is a better choice. Vycl1994 (talk) 20:05, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Vycl1994 Per WP:MIDDLENAME,
- Flood control → Flood management (currently a redirect back to Flood control) (move · discuss) – Flood management is a better, all encompassing term to cover other topics discussed in and redirected to this article, such as flood control, flood mitigation, flood risk management. TatjanaClimate (talk) 08:39, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- @TatjanaClimate Given that there used to be an article at Flood management that was merged into Flood control, there appears to have been consensus at one time that "control" was the preferred title. I see that there was a brief discussion on the talk page already, and I have gone ahead and converted that to a formal move discussion, which would need to run its course before the page could be moved. --Ahecht (TALK

- New rhetorics → New Rhetoric (currently a redirect back to New rhetorics) (move) – "New Rhetoric" is correct. JacktheBrown (talk) 19:02, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

- The current title is wrong because it is in plural form, so we can remove the "s". But both words do not need to be capitalized; see Digital rhetoric or Contrastive rhetoric among many other precedents. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 12:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
