I need help in making the reference foot notes visible for the article on: Michael Lord M Smith. Can someone help me edit that because it's giving me headache. Thanks in advance. (Microbilo (talk) 01:43, 12 May 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Hello Microbilo. I've simplified the format to enable them to show properly. I've also made a other few changes in the formatting to bring it into compliance with our Manual of Style. However, your draft still needs a lot of work. The current style and contents do not comply with our policies on neutral point of view and verifiability. It contains way too much personal opinion. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch has very good advice on achieving an encyclopedic style. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 10:36, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dharmanandan. You submission was declined because it was completely blank except for the name of the company. You need to write the content first and to provide sufficient independent sources to establish that it meets our criteria for inclusion. Before attempting that, please read Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations very carefully. You will also find Wikipedia:Your first article useful. Voceditenore (talk) 11:03, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have corrected the article as per one person's review. I'd like to get this published and in reviewing other like articles on festivals in our area, I believe this is ready to launch. Can this be done please?DivaWord (talk) 12:52, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@DivaWord: First, I trimmed some fat out of the article. If that makes you uneasy then Wikipedia isn't for you. Second, the only possibly reliable sources are the Waterloo Chronicle and the Waterloo Region Record. The Chronicle is online only so I'm not sure it qualifies as a reliable source. Finally, does anybody care about some busker proposing to his girlfriend? No. Why then is it in the article? Because your reliable source mentions it? I don't think this article passes muster. If anything, it needs to get chopped further. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:56, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris troutman:Thank you for helping to get this article closer to being published. I have no problem editing out one of the carnival's fan favourites proposing, marrying, and now performing with his wife as a busker act. Busker fans care. But if you feel that this is needed, honestly not a problem. I would also like to note that The Waterloo Chronicle is not online only. It is in fact a weekly publication here in the City of Waterloo. I appreciate your concrete assistance and would like this to move forward. Can you help with that? DivaWord (talk)

Hi I am creating a new Wikipedia page and I've written the article and put my references in but once I saved the page a sign came up saying There are ref tags on this page but the references will not show with out a reflist template see help page. I am wanting to know how to put in a reflist template can someone please advise me, thanks.AustralianFootballFan (talk) 12:55, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AustralianFootballFan, welcome to Wikipedia! I did some changes to simplify the reference formatting. It should show now, but check your sources. The ones which are online go to generic pages, and the book reference should have publisher, year of publication and the page number(s) used. You also need more internal links to contextualise the topic. Interstate matches in Australian rules football and State of Origin should give you some ideas of what to link to. You might also want to post at Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board to see if there are any experienced editors with an interest in football who can give you a hand with developing/formatting your draft. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 14:01, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I submitted an article Wikipedia talk: Articles for creation/Horror Hotel web series a couple months ago. It was reviewed by an editor who responded to submit with WP: COI which I understand now means Conflict of Interest, but is not really a conflict of interest at all as Horror Hotel is not a commercial project making money. Anyway, does that mean it will be published or no? If no,what can I do to remove that and get it published? Thanks for your help.

Debijohess (talk) 13:29, 12 May 2014 (UTC)Debbie Hess[reply]

Hello Debi. Whether or not the project has made a profit yet is immaterial, although your draft stated that the DVD was for sale at Amazon and included a link to the page there, listing you as the seller. Even editors who are employees of charities have a conflict of interest when writing about their organizations here. When your goal is primarily to publicize your project, then it is potentially in conflict with Wikipedia's goals and policies. Having such a conflict isn't a bar to getting the article accepted per se, but the subject must meet our criteria for inclusion. The reason that conflict of interest editing is strongly discouraged here is that it is very hard for such editors to take a dispassionate, objective view about the suitability of their article for inclusion, about the appropriateness of the style of writing, and about the validity of the references. I've looked at your references, and based on those, there is no chance this draft will be accepted. They are press-releases, interviews with you, entries written by you, listings/mentions on blogs or sites with user-generated content, and "features" on sites that accept submissions or interviews from people wishing to publicize their work, e.g. promotehorror.com, maxitmagazine.com, snobbyrobot.com, orspidvid.com. In the last example, scroll down to the bottom of the interview where it says "And if you are a web series, TV, short film or feature film creator or producer and want your story and content featured here, then reach out to us and lets discuss.". If the awards can be verified, there is potential for the draft, but you need completely independent sourcing for that, and the awards themselves must be notable. May I please have an update of where my article is in line for approval? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Solbergm89 (talkcontribs) 14:49, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Solbergm89: no Declined There is no "line for approval" as the reviews are done at random. I have declined your submission because you have almost no independent, reliable sources so the submission fails notability criteria. For example, one reliable source you do have only mentions Dr. van den Brink in two paltry sentences. All your other references are for organizations which the good doctor is a member of/ works for. Hello, Dr. Duale. Do you have a question about the Articles for Creation process? Arthur goes shopping (talk) 17:19, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir/Madam:

Thank you for considering our recent application for a Wikipedia page for Mr. Charlie Mayrs of West Vancouver, British Columbia. As you may have guessed, it was our first time attempting to establish such a page, and despite reading your helpful instructions beforehand, it appears we unfortunately fell a bit short of satisfying your requirements regarding proof of Mayrs’s credentials.

Although much of it is in printed form and predates the much easier internet forms of referencing, we have outlined below the considerable evidence we have subsequently assembled to confirm Mr.Mayrs’s accomplishments and standing within the community. We would greatly appreciate it if you would advise us as to how we may best employ it to satisfy your needs.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Alan Davidson (acting on behalf of Mr.Mayrs)

PR material

Advertising & Public Relations Mr.Mayrs was a successful and leading member of the Vancouver & West Coast advertising community for many decades, and as such was a “go-to” person for journalists hoping to understand and explain industry trends. As proof of this high-profile aspect of Mr. Mayrs’s career, we can supply scans of original NSP articles and references (Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province, North Shore News) and magazines such as Marketing, Equity, Business in Vancouver and Strategy) — all with articles on/quotations from CM. If desired, we can also supply samples of Mr.Mayrs award-winning creative advertising design work from his days at Dome Advertising and FCB.

Painting/Fine Art Mr.Mayrs is a prolific and accomplished painter, and over the years has had many exhibitions on the West Coast as well as in Hawaii, where he has a second home.

On this front, we are happy to supply scanned proof of original articles in magazines such as “Arts Alive”, Air Canada “Enroute”, a CM biographical listing in the reference book “Artists of British Columbia” as well as scanned proof of CM exhibitions in Vancouver (Vancouver Art Gallery) and West Coast galleries such as Woodworks, Diane Farris Gallery and Seymour Art Gallery (“Preview of the Visual Arts” and “Boulevard” arts magazines,“Plus” magazine, Vancouver Sun newspaper, North Shore News, The Moncton News, Vancouver Art Gallery catalogue). There is also proof of an 2000 exhibition on the Hawaiian island of Maui. (”Maui Art” magazine). Of course, if desired, we can also provide scanned samples of Mr. Mayrs’s paintings.

Limited Edition Books (Design, Photography, Illustration) Mr.Mayrs has conceived and published a significant number of limited edition books about the people and landscape of Canada and British Columbia. He writes and designs each one, augmenting his unique poetry and prose with his own photography, painted imagery, and graphic illustrations. They are subsequently printed using the laborious but beautiful letterpress technique, often with hand-crafted covers and special handmade papers. Copies currently reside in the reference libraries of educational institutions across Canada such as the University of British Columbia.

We can supply high resolution scans of the books themselves (or you may visit www.charlesmayrs.com to view them in their entirety), first place awards from the likes of the Alcuin Society of Canada, and feature articles in the society’s magazine “Amphora” as well as a references to jury selection in the Biennial International Miniature Print Exhibition. There are also a reference available to an earlier CM award for graphic design and personal profile in “Typography 60”, of which we have scans.

Editorial Cartoon Illustration For a number of years, Mr.Mayrs created political and social commentary cartoons for the editorial pages of the North Shore Outlook newspaper. He called them “Glimmericks”, and we are happy to supply multiple scans of these pages featuring his work as well as Letters to the Editor pages in which readers bemoan his eventual retirement from that job.

Finally, Mr. Mayrs biography may be found in two editions of the Canadian “Who's Who” reference book. (1988 & 2010). If desired, we are happy to supply high rez scans of same for your consideration.

Can you please advise as to how best to proceed? Thanks!

Enkephalon (talk) 22:21, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Enkephalon and Wikicharlie1992: There's no need to provide scanned documents; per WP:CITE you simply need to list the reliable sources where your information comes from. We cannot use the Charles Mayrs website as it's not independent. None of these sources need to be online. All of your claims, however, have to be stated in the material. Drawing conclusions from cited material amounts to synthesis.
Please read WP:ARTIST and WP:GNG, as these outline the notability criteria you need to meet. Finally, the submission reads very promotionally because you're here to advertize, not to write an encyclopedia. I would recommend using the reward board as you might get better results using a disinterested third-party to fix this article. Chris Troutman (talk) 06:57, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was curious to see what's the status of this page being reviewed. Does it has a particular assigned number that lets me know how many other articles need to be reviewed first before it comes to this one? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Net wang (talk) 22:26, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Net wang. There are no assigned numbers or places in the queue. Because the process is severely backlogged with over 2600 submissions waiting for review, reviewers generally try to work on the ones which have been waiting longest. There are currently 365 which have been waiting over 4 weeks and few even longer than that. Sometimes newer ones get reviewed earlier as some reviewers prioritise by the subject areas with which they have experience/expertise. I'm afraid it's really a matter of luck. I suggest you use the waiting period to improve your referencing and give it the best possible chance of acceptance. Most of your references are to the websites of the company or its partners. The EE Times awards help. I suggest you also include articles like this one from that publication. That link also has links to other relevant articles about the company. If you have access to them also check out
They may have material you can use. See also these books:

Could I get some comments or critique on the links on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Amlogic Would this be suitable enough?

Can someone help me review my article: Michael Lord M Smith and make sure that it's in comply with wikipedia policies on neutral point of view and verifiability. Also make sure it doesn't contain way too much personal opinion about the character. Kindly make amendments were ever you feel necessary. I want this article to pass a review. Thanks. What is your question, Pianolover2009? Voceditenore (talk) 12:48, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me why my article on Sir Trevor Corry was refused and what I need to do to make it acceptable. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by West Marshall (talkcontribs) 16:22, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

West Marshall, there is a grey box near the top of the article (inside the pink one) which explains why your article was declined. That portion is a template. The comment below the pink box is not just a template and was added by the reviewer, Aggie80. If you have any questions about what those terms mean, you can click on the blue-linked terms or ask for further clarification here. Dismas|(talk) 19:59, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response to my article on Sir Trevor Corry. My article was largely based on letters, wills and legal documents stored under "State Papers" at the National Archive in Kew. As such the sources are very reliable and, I believe, more reliable than many third party sources. I believe I refrained from adding personal comment or opinion preferring instead to quote directly from the sources. There is some referencing to third party sources where they exist but, strangely, little has been written about him. It would be a shame if Wikipedia could not fill the gap in information about Sir Trevor Corry who was certainly an influential and fascinating character of his time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by West Marshall (talkcontribs) 09:03, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As a new contributor I am finding the procedures very confusing. I thought my article on Sir Trevor Corry was rejected because the references were mostly from original sources. I queried this but I am not sure I actually managed to send it so this is a repeat of the query: Most of the sources are from letters, wills and legal documents kept at the National Archive in Kew. These sources are very reliable, which cannot be said for much of what is published. I have tried not to include personal opinions and have preferred to quote directly from these sources. There is little in the way of published material to draw on which explains why in felt the need to write this article about a very influential and colourful character of his time and to have the article on Wilkipedia. Since writing the above I have found my article in the Sandbox and it has clearly been worked on by one of your volunteers. They have added some more information which is something I always hoped would come of putting the article on Wikipedia. I am therefore not clear if the article has been passed or not. I would like to include some illustrations but so far I have not been able to work out how to so this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by West Marshall (talkcontribs) 13:24, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi West Marshall. Many apologies for not responding here sooner. I was the one who worked on your draft, and when it had sufficient published sources to establish notability and verify the key facts, I accepted it. (I also checked for copyright infringement, and found none.) It's now at Trevor Corry where you can continue to improve it. I'll leave a more detailed message on your talk page. By the way, I've combined your three posts here under the original heading to keep them all together. It's not a good idea to post a new section every time you want to add or respond to a topic. WP:TALK has more guidance on this. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 14:39, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
