January 2010

  • Morgan Park High School (C/Mid) I am giving the "C" rating because there has been some development of the school's history, academics, and alumni. The history section could do with some more expansion, and there could be an addition of a section on student life at the school. Pictures would also be a welcome addition to the article. I am giving the importance rating of this article a "mid" rating, however I would prefer another editor to check this. I believe the history and alumni of the school make an argument for this school to be ranked above a "low" importance rating. LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:17, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
  • DuSable High School (Stub/Mid or High) The article still requires a great deal more expansion, particularly in the history section where there is undoubtedly a treasure trove waiting to be written about. Pictures would be helpful as well. Discussion of student life would be helpful in upgrading this article. I am giving this article a "Mid" importance rating, though I suspect once the history section is fleshed out more, this article may qualify for a "High" importance, given its list of eminently notable alumni, particularly in twentieth century African-American history, as well as the history of music (jazz in particular).   • Roxbury Latin School (C / High) The title of it being the oldest school in North America is a significant show of importance, as well as its impressive list of alumni. The requirements for Top-importance however are extremely high and only about one school on average per country should get this rating. Wider discussion at WikiProject Schools may be required first, and it would be good if the alumni were fully sourced. As for the content of the article, I would say it is on the low end of C-class. The lead is way too long, it should only introduce and summarise the article per WP:LEAD. The other sections need to be referenced, and much needs to be expanded. WP:WPSCH/AG#S shows the missing sections of the article. An obvious missing section is History; I'm sure given the school's age there is plenty of material on this. In articles with similar importance the school's history has got its own article e.g. History of Baltimore City College. The article really needs more references; five just isn't enough for an article even of its existing size. Finally, some pictures and the school logo would be good.   • The Avery Coonley School (B/Mid) This article has seen considerable expansion since its last assessment, and is fairly well referenced. In addition to being stable, it appears to also have a comprehensive overview of the school, and is deserving of a "B" rating. I think there are still a few things that could be referenced, a few things that might need to be removed, and a little further review on the promotional tone of the article. I am bumping this article up to "Mid" importance because of its history, including a patent on an educational innovation, history in progressive education, performance on the state/national level, association with notable architects/landscapers, and being on the National Register. Given my tendency to be conservative, there is a possibility that this article could warrant consideration for "High" importance. LonelyBeacon (talk) 03:34, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
  • John Marshall Metropolitan High School Start/Mid This article is not fully formed in terms of the needed sections, but the sections in place are fairly well referenced, so it is worthy of "start" over "stub". The school has 8 or so notable alumni (and likely a few more which are not yet listed). While this normally would not be enough to push the article to "Mid" importance, the alumni include a Nobel Laureate, a major figure in television history, and a figure of some importance in American football history. This, along with some significant athletic history in the state, I think is enough to give it consideration for "Mid" importance. LonelyBeacon (talk) 14:56, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Carl Schurz High School Stub/High I am giving this article a preliminary assessment of "Stub" and "High" importance. The school's landmark status and architecture, and some eminent alumni (2 Nobel Laureates, the discoverer of the fossil Lucy, a 4 star general, one of only a few lyricists to win a Pulitzer, some Olympians, etc) make this easily a High importance article. Aside from a recently added infobox, a long list of notable alumni just being referenced now, and a newly added academics section, this articles has nothing. I have tagged it with a construction template so hopefully people who would jump in and delete unreferenced material will leave it be for the moment. LonelyBeacon (talk) 04:01, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Melbourne High School (Victoria) C/Top I reassessed this article, per request. I left a more lengthy assessment on the article talk page, checking the article point-by-point against WP:BCLASS criteria. While the article met almost all of the criteria, I felt that the referencing, especially inline referencing, needed substantial improvement before the article could reach "B" class.   • Valley Forge Military Academy and College C/Mid Per request, I have assessed this article, and pushed the rating from "start" to "C". It is a long article, well structured, and has some referencing. The article requires a great deal more referencing, and may need to trim some material that may not be encyclopedic.   • Bombay Scottish School, Mahim Start/Mid The articles claims a long history and many notable alumni. Thus I am pushing the article to "Mid" importance (Wikiproject India had the article listed as high importance). However, the article needs a great deal more referencing, especially from reliable sources. Inline citations would be a great improvement. With an expanded history section and proper referencing, the article may be worthy of higher importance in this project. LonelyBeacon (talk) 23:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
  • St. Stanislaus High School Start/Low I am assessing this article Start and Low. I have difficulty extending a class rating above start because this article completely lacks references of any kind, in violation of the verifiability policy. To advance much beyond Start, I believe that there needs to be significant referencing, especially with inline citations. I further encourage editors to explore the article guidelines for school articles. Among other things, alumni, students, and staff should only be noted if they meet the criteria at WP:BIO or the general notability policy. Among the missing items is a discussion of the academic history and quality of the institution (which absolutely needs to be referenced by reliable, secondary sources. The article guidelines will greater outline what needs to be added and taken out of this article. I am establishing this article as Low priority for the School project, because there is nothing firmly established to make this article a higher priority. Given that the school has been around for nearly 150 years, and claims to have some notable alumni, might make it eligible for a higher priority rating, though this too cannot be established until there is greater referencing.   • William Horlick High School - was assessed in January, and since that time, some of the issues in the original assessment have been addressed.   • Durham School - Assessed in September as C. I feel that I have addressed a lot of the points therein although I do appreciate that there is some way to go on some of the refencing.   • Roxbury Latin School is assessed as mid importance but I suggest it should be top importance given it is the oldest continuously operating school in America established by charter from King Charles I, has many important alumni (eg, Nobel prize winner) and very high academic and Ivy League entrance results.   • The Avery Coonley School has been extensively rewritten since the previous assessment. Reclassed as C by another editor, it should merit B-class at this point.   • Benet Academy was recently assessed B/Mid, but I would like to know if new information that has been added since then is enough to elevate the school to High importance.   • Geelong High School I thought I'd submit this article again for a rating to try and get it to at least a C as an article being a Start class isn't really good enough for being the main and probably one of the oldest secondary schools in its respective city in my oppinion. I have taken the reccomendations and added what history I could find under a new "History" section and expanded the curriculum section also.   • William R. Boone High School - I'm submitting this article for an assessment/constructive criticism because this is (along with one other) the oldest high school in Orlando, FL, and it deserves to be more than a start-article.   • Syosset High School has not yet received an importance scale rating. I would suggest a high importance rating based on the numerous awards and honors given to the school and its different programs as well as the very wide range of courses available.   • Shenandoah Valley Academy Was assesed in April as a C, asking for reassesment since a lot of issues cited in C assesment have been rememdied and a number of items added in accordance with style manual: Wikipedia:WPSCH/AG#S. Also asking for an upgrade of importance rating, since SVA is one of the most prominent Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools in the world, making it of higher importance since the Adventist school system is the second largest system of Christian schools in the world.
