Comcast Center[edit]

I have secured a 45th-floor conference room at the Comcast Center (office building), tallest building in Pennsylvania.
Benefits
  • High-speed wireless and wired Internet
  • HDTV video projection system
  • Conference table seating for about 15-20 persons
  • Outstanding views of the city, from about 750-foot level
  • Space provided gratis
Drawbacks
  • I would have to personally pre-register guests with real names, 24 hours in advance, and they must bring matching photo ID for entry past Security
  • I must be present as your "host", and I must be the last one to exit
  • No outside food or beverages allowed
  • If attendance exceeds 25, we have to employ a facilities host/security person

Sorry but we can't do this, because it's an open meeting and we have to be accessible to people who can attend only on late or no notice. Thanks.--Pharos (talk) 20:47, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, we could register anyone who had even a 10% chance of coming, and if they are a no-show, there is no harm to have them lapse as a no-show in the register anyway. You would be correct, though, in that anyone with even a possibility of coming would have to declare so by 15:00 on Friday, September 11. If you were to still decline this offer on that basis, then (unfortunately) you are in a sense causing all of the attendees to suffer at the loss of this opportunity, simply to cater to the whim of one or two people who can't bring themselves to commit to a 24-hour RSVP window. The entire venue will have been dictated by the slim few who can't seem to get their act together? Seems unfair and unreasonable to me; but it's the organizers' call, not mine. -- Thekohser 00:20, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I spoke with several people today, and they are uncomfortable with meeting at Comcast. I'm going to try and secure a space in the near future. --Mblumber (talk) 02:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will cancel the room reservation, then. I feel that this is a missed opportunity for some to experience the highly functional and impressive facility here, but I respect the decision. Please keep the Comcast Center in mind for future engagements, especially any that might require the more "multi-media" oriented needs of video teleconferencing, webinars, etc. -- Thekohser 13:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
People were "uncomfortable" with meeting there? Too bad. It sounds like it would have been a cool place to meet, especially as a free option.Hazelrenfield (talk) 14:54, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, are people "uncomfortable" with meeting there? Are you afraid of tall buildings? Or are there socialist hippies, who do not want to meet in the home of a powerful corporation? Njbob (talk) 08:40, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Those are the only two reasons for being uncomfortable you can think of? Ucanlookitup (talk) 02:09, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Some attendees want to remain anonymous, and giving information to Comcast to get a pass would be an issue. Also we frequently get last minute attendees, and so those people would also be excluded. Let's not make the focus of this on the venue. I hope to see all of you there. --Mblumber (talk) 06:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I intend to arrive in an elaborate disguise. -- Thekohser 11:15, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So...you'll be the one with the fake nose glasses? There goes my outfit. Ucanlookitup (talk) 12:09, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, no, no -- not at all. Your disguise will be just fine. I had something more along this line in mind. -- Thekohser 16:42, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
