Hello! I'm not sure if this project is still active, but I would be really grateful if someone could check Castanyada for me. I just translated it from the article on the Catalan Wikipedia, but my Catalan is nowhere near perfect. Thanks! —Celestianpower háblame

Review: municipalities of the Land of Valencia

Reviewing official names and prompting requested moves

Municipalities:

List of municipalities in Castellón
List of municipalities in Valencia
List of municipalities in Alicante

Suggestions:

  • Review official names, as politics and laws change.
  • Defined names with either a Valencian or Castilian name stay unchanged, e.g. Dénia, Gandia (Valencian) or Orihuela, Villalonga (Castilian)
  • Use dual official names (separated by a forward slash) for localities that haven't been adapted into English, same as the Basque Country, Navarre, or the Swiss city of Biel/Bienne; e.g. Benitachell/El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

Firsts attempts:

La Nucia (see talk:La Nucía)
Peníscola/Peñíscola (see talk:Peñíscola)
San Vicente del Raspeig/Sant Vicent del Raspeig (see talk:San Vicente del Raspeig).
Benicàssim (see talk:Benicasim)
Les Alqueries (see talk:Alquerías del Niño Perdido)

Other moves I made (without involving moves requests):

Facheca → Fageca (only official form, as Benigembla)
Gallinera → La Vall de Gallinera
Vall de Alcalá → La Vall d'Alcalà
Montroy → Montroi
Sant Joan de l'Ènova (former name) → Sant Joanet

I think we should make a list here with changes, and discuss it, rather than doing it article by article. It seems there are many mistakes, especially in the Valencia and Castellon provinces. Jɑυмe (xarrades) 08:35, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Art of Catalonia

(Note: I have been redirected here from Wikipedia:WikiProject Arts and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Visual arts)

I have recently endeavored to translate this article over to the English Wikipedia. Due to me not being the most experienced person in the Catalonian language, some help from people knowledgeable in Catalonian artwork, or who know the Catalonian language very well would really help. Also i wanted to know if the article crossed over with any articles in this WikiProject. I know there is no explicit article on such a subject, but i wanted to know how much it crossed over with such pages as Spanish art. The article now rests at User:Coin945/Art of Catalonia. Thanks.--Coin945 (talk) 08:21, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Have you tried the Catalonian project on en:wikipedia for language help, or the Catalan wikipedia? You are unluikely to find Catalan speakers here. Spanish art is very poor indeed; I wouldn't worry about overlap. It stops at the Gothic - is there more? Some references in English also would be nice. Meanwhile the English is often pretty rough - is it based on a machine translation? Johnbod (talk) 10:47, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm taking it one step at a time, translating over the article bit by bit, and adding in references/links as i go. That's why the article is only up to Gothic Art. Lately I've focused more on these two aspects rather than the actual translation... which is why its very rough at the moment.--Coin945 (talk) 09:09, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

AFD's of Catalonia articles and suggestion

There are about 12 Catalonia articles up for deletion (see today's AFD's). Most are on obscure political historical topics, have no editors, and no sources, but good content. One suggestion would be to create a "Political History of Catalonia" article and put all of those orphans into it and bring them out of obscurity so that they can get a bit of attention. Or else give the individual article some attention. Sincerely,North8000 (talk) 13:12, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Spanish MOS Needed?

This is copied from what was pasted on WP:SPAIN and a couple of other Talk pages

I noted three months back to a couple of IPA pronunciation expert editors that Category:Wikipedia_Manual_of_Style_(regional) has:

but not:

Is there really nothing at all that could benefit by giving guidance? For instance:
  1. Like when to use a Catalan place name, when to use a Spanish one?
  2. Like whether to use accents on capitals, like Oscar or Óscar?
  3. IPA pronunciation?
  4. Spelling between Iberian and American varieties of Spanish?
  5. How to treat Quechua (Runa Simi) and other articles?
  6. and so on?

Hi, I have been disputing with User:Walter Görlitz on whether the full name of Pep Guardiola, Josep Guardiola i Sala, is a Spanish or Catalan name. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Auto-assessment of article classes

Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.

If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 22:22, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Help requested with old Catalan

I have a passage to translate for an article that is in late medieval Catalan and I'm having some trouble with it in parts. It's the quotation from Pere Albert's Commemorations [ca], quoted here: ca:Catalunya Vella:

Catalan quote from Pere Albert's "Commemorations"

I'm an English native speaker, my problem is in understanding the original, not in finding the right English words to represent it. So I need help understanding some sticky points, enumerated below. Feel free to respond in Catalan, Spanish, or French, if it's easier for you. A translation of the passage into modern es/fr/ca would be ideal.

My main points of difficulty, are these:

  1. The whole first sentence, I find mysterious: "And if you're a peasant.." then, what happens? You "use" differently? Wtf? And why doesn't es have an accent, it's not the reflexive particle (ca:es, es:se, fr:on) here.
  2. quax : I assume this is just an early version of quasi (es:casi)
  3. que és part lo flom de el Lobregat vers orient - It seems to be saying the Llobregat River is part of something (the diocese?), or else maybe that the river splits ('parts') the Barcelona diocese in two? But then why 'vers orient'? Is it because it cuts off the section to the east of the river from--everything else, the rest of the comarca, I guess?
  4. cavaler I know this is old Catalan for cavaller, so, caballero, chevalier; "gentlemen" doesn't really capture this, and "horseman" might be better here. It's the guy in service to the castlà defending the castle; maybe just "knight" here?
  5. si estrets - so close to? (in the partisan loyalty sense, not geographically)
  6. que és per tot lo dit flom... - that is nearby said Llobregat River (dicho rio de Ll.)
  7. ves ponent que - a mystery to me; some copies of this online (e.g. here) have a comma after "ponent"; with the comma, it seems like a pat phrase; could it mean "downstream"?

Anyway, here's what I've got so far: Commemoration 35. And if you're a peasant?? you use?? differently in Catalonia. Because in one part of Catalonia which is called Catalunya Vella, just like the whole diocese of Gerona and almost half the diocese of Barcelona, which is divided by the Llobregat River to the east [east of what??] and most of the diocese of Vic, the homo solidus [a] who are not knights and who are so close to their lords that their sons are men of their lords, who can neither marry nor leave their farmstead. [..] In another part of Catalonia that is nearby west of said Llobregat River [dit flom], you see that ever since the time of Sir Ramon Berenguer, Count of Barcelona, that area has usually been called Nova Catalunya.

Any help is appreciated. Mathglot (talk) 02:23, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Oh, ves ponent must be a ponent de so "to the west of", right? So it must be : "In another part of Catalunya west of said Llobregat River, that area has usually been called Nova Catalunya ever since the time of Sir Ramon Berenguer, Count of Barcelona." At least, I think so. Wonder why they said "ves" ponent back then, and not "sol ponent" or something. Mathglot (talk) 02:35, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

A Tutor for His Majesty Prince Emmanuel Macron

Is there an appropriate Franco-Catalan dialect for French Presidential tutelage? Emmanuel Macron spoke to the massmedia (at the Frankfurt book-fair) a few minutes before the scheduled speech of Carles Puigdemont on the 10th of October 2017 (the speech was thereafter postponed another hour), distancing himself entirely from any involvent with Catalan; this shows a lack of awareness of ex-officio duties of the Prince of Andorra, and it could be helped by tutelage in Catala.126.209.40.121 (talk) 18:00, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:28, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
