Project Proposals

It has been suggested that this group institute a collaboration and maybe something like a governing body. I personally think it might be a bit early to go for a collaboration, but am curious as to what the members think about creating a project official. Certainly, there is now a subpage of the WikiProject Council at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Contacts where it is requested that individual contacts for each project be listed. The designated contact should probably be the individual who will be working most often on specific project related activies. Badbilltucker 15:11, 20 December 2006 (UTC) My suggestion is that we do one or the other sooner or later, and then do the projects. I suggest we vote for a council first, then do contacts (from the council), then do the collaboration. Laleenatalk to me contributions to Wikipedia 13:28, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Getting the article on DK featured

Shouldn't we try to get the article on DK featured, as it has already come a long way. I would very much like to help, but I'm not sure if I can do it all by myself. Snailwalker | talk 19:28, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

It should be a priority, but it takes a lot of work doing research and adding sources. Perhaps we could have this as an collaboration in February. --Maitch 17:33, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm in on this. It shouldn't be too hard really. Cheers, MartinDK 20:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
So, are we going to do this? MartinDK 11:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

I have requested a new review here. MartinDK 14:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Using Danish terms

How would you all feel about using Danish words and nomenclatures in all Danish administrative division article texts? eg, use amter instead of counties in the text of all Danish articles, not just the titles? --Bob 04:02, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

As I see it, the main problem with the current situation is that a reform of 1671 created a large number of fiefs held by either barons or counts, see the list at: da:Danske grevskaber og baronier (grevskab = county, baroni = barony). If we use the words "county" and "barony" it should be for the fiefs actually held by the nobility. The fiefs abolished in 1662 were referred to as "Len", e.g. Hammershus Len (da:Danske len).
The administrative "amter" (1662-2006) had nothing to do with the nobility. The word was taken directly from German and until 1970, the "amtmand" represented royal authority in the province. He might be compared to a British governor. The word "hundred" also presents a challenge since Denmark had many more than this (da:Kategori:Herreder, da:Skånske herreder, da:Sønderjyske herreder) and the word will not be easily recognized.
I'm still not sure how to properly procede with the administrative divisions of territories no longer under Danish control, (e.g. da:Slesvigs amter (før 1864) and de:Ämter und Harden in Schleswig). But all in all, I would rather go with "Syssel", "Herred", "Len" and "Amt", but I have no problem with "Parish" rather than "Sogn" or "County" / "Barony" for fiefs actually held by the nobility. I have no strong opinion on using "Kommune" rather than "municipality" but changing the latter material would take a long time. We still have to update almost 200 articles in Category:Municipalities of Denmark and its children due to the municipal reform of January 1, 2007. Valentinian (talk) / (contribs) 10:50, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Adding a resource

I would like to add a local resource to make finding fair use, CC and copy left images for use in articles relating to the Cathedral in Roskilde easy. It simply is a category for images uploaded to Wikipedia of the Cathedral, the tombs inside, etc etc. I think this will improve article quality in the long run. --OrbitOne [Talk|Babel] 20:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Blue Order

Population ranking of cities

The Esbjerg article says Esbjerg is the 5th largest city in Denmark, while technically that is Frederiksberg.

I imagine there are other changes in the ranking because of the recent reform, so a few cities ranking should probably be updated.

One must also consider, if it is the city population, or the municipiality population that is ranked.

What are your opinion on this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Koderko (talkcontribs) 23:03, 1 March 2007 (UTC).

As long as it is the rank of a city, not a municipality, the definition is pretty much set in stone, as the article List of cities in Denmark by population clearly states that Statistics Denmark defines city (by) as "a continuous built-up area with a maximum distance of 50 metres between residences." And as long as that statistic states Esbjerg as the 5th most populous, I dont see any problem. /AB-me (chit-chat) 21:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Tagging relevant articles with {{WikiProject Denmark}}

Perhaps it would be a possibility to get at Bot to auto-tag all articles that falls within the scope of this project. I know that when wikiproject Visual Arts started up they got User:Alphachimpbot operated by User:Alphachimp to do it, and is hs approval to do it. The bot can go through The Denmark category, other danish stub related categories, to get the tag. -Angelbo 00:49, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be nice if a bot collected all articles in the category and sub-categories that are not tagged, but I still think we should evaluate them. The categories divide in strange fashions, and some reach areas not related to Denmark. Carewolf 10:32, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Around two months ago, I created a list of potential articles the way suggested. I did around 1/3 of it, but I haven't had the time to do the rest. AWB combined with Kingboyk's plugin makes the work a lot easier but the assessing will still have to be done manually. Please note that I have not checked if all entries on the list are relevant, I've only sorted parts of this material. Anyway, the "missing" part of the list is here: User:Valentinian/WP Denmark tagging. Feel free to work on it, but please remember to keep the list updated. If you simply tag the talk pages, simply add {{WikiProject Denmark|class=|importance=}} to the top of the talk pages. If anybody wishes to use AWB for this purpose, copy-paste the content of the list into an empty .txt file. In this case, all entries should use the current format: # [[Talk:Esbjerg]] . Valentinian T / C 10:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Btw, this list is not the latest version, so a number of articles on it might have been done already by me or others. Unfortunately, this is the best version I can find as my harddrive crashed a few days ago. Valentinian T / C 10:53, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Everything through #100 #200 on the list is tagged as of March 14. -- Pastordavid 16:25, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Was just passing by, and thought I would mention this article. It is in dire need of in-text citations, and I don't know the sources well enough to do that ... I thought that someone here might. The articles about Danish municipalities need updating

Denmark carried out an administrative reform on 1 January this year, slashing the number of municipalities from 271 to 98. Result: we now have almost 300 incorrect articles about these entities. All articles in Category:Future municipalities of Denmark need to be moved to Category:Municipalities of Denmark and the future tense must be changed to past tense since these entities now exist. The articles in Category:Municipalities of Denmark also need updating. Many of them need to be updated to reflect that the entity has been abolished and moved to Category:Former municipalities of Denmark. A number of entities about towns also refer to entities now abolished. The articles about the counties and regions have all been fixed, but any help on the articles about the municipalities would be very much appreciated. Most of these articles are very similar so perhaps a bot could be programmed to do some of this work? If this work is done manually, we'll need to set up a check list to avoid a lot of duplicate work. Valentinian T / C 21:35, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Could we also please try to separate cities and municipalities? It is silly that Copenhagen talk about the municipality and not the city as a whole. Others like Vallø shares name with a geographic area that might or might not be equivalent to the municipal area. I propose that all articles that talk about the municipalities end in .. Municipality, and we move out all municipal specific content out of, for instance Copenhagen to Copenhagen Municipality. (Roskilde and Roskilde municipality has already done this.) Carewolf 09:10, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea. Much of this material has been split off already, and we might as well do the same for the remaining articles. There is a bit confusion regarding the names of these articles, and we have articles using both upper- and lowercase article names (Odense Municipality and Roskilde municipality) so having a uniform naming system would be nice. The articles about the regions and counties use upper-case spelling (Funen County). However, I don't like the Danish Wikipedia's practice about creating duplicate articles for entities that have been enlarged by the reform, e.g. we should have one article about Kerteminde but only one article about Kerteminde municipality (the Danish Wikipedia has da:Kerteminde, da:Kerteminde Kommune and da:Kerteminde Kommune (1970-2006)). A Czech editor has created a series of infoboxes, so we might find them useful here as well? We never really introduced them for the Danish material. I've made a few experiments on Odense, Næstved, Roskilde, and Region Sjælland but the boxes can contain much more information, see e.g. the articles Pilsen and Pilsen Region. Valentinian T / C 11:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
As an experiment, I've added infoboxes to both Fredericia and Fredericia municipality. The colour for the municipal infobox is the same as the one proposed for the regions, but I don't think it will pose any actual problems. Valentinian T / C 19:06, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

What to do with {{SightLandmarkDenmark}}  ?

I just discovered this one. The list of places is not a UNESCO list or something similar, not that I know of anyway. I don't necessarily disagree with the buildings listed but the list is a grab bag. Where is Saint Canute's Cathedral in Odense, Viborg Cathedral, the Little Mermaid, the Dybbøl trenches, Kronborg Castle, Koldinghus, and Ribe Cathedral. It looks like WP:TFD fodder to me. Where is the municipal reform?

One used to be able to link to Municipalities of Denmark#Municipal Reform 2007, but the target section has now disappeared. Where has it gone? I would expect that the reform still deserves some encyclopedic coverage, if only the bare fact that it happened, when it happened, the general principles of the reform, and so forth. –Henning Makholm 09:30, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hundreds of new articles on danish films and actors

I am currently putting danish film and actors form dnaish wikipedia onto english wikipedia. Please help translate any danish new articles you see in Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation. I don't think any member of this project has the time to go through a ton of articles. It would be a bad idea to dump a large number of articles here as it will simply result in the deletion of most of them again. If people wish to see this material translated, it will eventually happen sooner or later, but this is not the way. Valentinian T / C 15:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Help needed with article revamp

Hi there. I think I stepped into something a little deeper than I had expected it to be when I responded to a query by one Michael Hardinger, a long-time member of the band Shu-Bi-Dua, on Editor Assistance and apparently rather prolific musician and songwriter, recently. An article about him had been deleted, and he was wondering why; I asked the deleting admin to restore the content for me, and I would try and rewrite the article to a point where it wouldn't fall under a speedy criteria. (The restored article is very much speedy bait.) All well and good. Problems: I have very few sources for his notability that I can actually read. My Danish is a little weak, where weak = nonexistent. He does have an article up on da.wiki, and there's also a longer article on the band over there. But, I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me pin down some better sources on Mr. Hardinger? It's obvious he's notable in terms of music, with something like 30 albums and upwards of 20 years with a notable band. Any help would be great. Thanks! Tony Fox (arf!) 03:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

National football teams - please vote

I've discovered that some editors have decided that the football team of Bornholm should be called Bornholm national football team, as if Bornholm was an independent nation! They've done the same with other countries (Brittany national football team, Cornwall national football team, Andalucia national football team, etc.). I've tried to replace the word "national" with the word "regional", but I was immediately reverted and I was told that supposedly there exists a consensus to use the word "national". Since I can't find such consensus on the talk pages, I opened a vote to remove the word "national" from the titles, as this word seems extremly POV. Please take part in the vote, whatever your opinion may be. You can vote here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#"national" team for subnational entities?. Godefroy 02:07, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

American or British English

I've started a discussion on which spelling to use on talk:Denmark. I thought perhaps it would be nice to get some more input from my fellow project members, and that perhaps we could carry over whatever consensus may be reached there, to other Denmark-related articles? Lilac Soul 05:29, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't we use whatever wikipedia generally recommends. Most danes are taught British spelling, but has been contaminated by American influences, which typically makes us a mess at using one or the other. Carewolf 10:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Whatever Wikipedia generally recommends is that no national variety is more "correct" than others, but that consistency within each article should be aimed for. I cannot imagine that declaring that (British|American) spelling is preferred in articles relating to Denmark will be a win. At best it will quiet a few avoidable edit wars a bit quicker; at worst it might scare away contributors who, like me, know they cannot possibly abide with such a requirement, because they don't care about remembering which spelling comes from where. People who know the difference by heart and care about consistency shall be welcome to edit my contributions to fit the standard they favor, as long as they don't clutter up the article histories by edit warring with other editors who favour another standard. –Henning Makholm 21:05, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Freedom Party / Frihedspartiet

As most of you probably know, the Freedom Party (Denmark) was founded earlier this month by Ruth Evensen of Faderhuset. Or at least, she stepped forth and said she was founding a party. Since then, I haven't heard a peep from her about this party, the name still doesn't appear to be registered, nor is there a website or any mention of it one Faderhuset's website. I'm starting to think that we should propose the article on the Freedom Party for deletion, and remove it from the Politics of Denmark article and template. But before I do so, I thought it get everybody's opinion first. Lilac Soul 11:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Delete it. There are so many silly parties in denmark, there is no reason to write anything about them until they actually get enough signatures, even then, many are still not to be taken seriously. Carewolf 14:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
leave it at least till the next election. A party being "silly" is certainly no reason for it not to have a wikipedia article. The party is noteworthy simply because of the amount of media coverage they got.·Maunus· ·ƛ· 14:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually, there is a website - a placeholder saying that they haven't got a policy (yet?) - at http://www.frihedspartiet.org/ . But in all likelihood it is simply a media stunt. For one thing, I'd like to see them gather 20,000 signatures. I support a different party, so it wouldn't be proper for me to vote either way :) Valentinian T / C 14:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
How about a merge? The party did receive enough media coverage to deserve mentioning, but the current content could be rewritten into a paragraph in the article on Ruth Evensen and Freedom Party (Denmark) could be turned into a redirect. That way we won't be giving undue weight to what might just have been a media stunt, while at the same time no information is lost. Hemmingsen 14:43, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Occupation of Denmark needs fixing

An editor has chosen to nominate Occupation of Denmark for GA status. Unfortunately, the article still needs sourcing and copyediting and I don't have the time to do it, nor for the suggested conversion of references. The deadline is 16 August. If anybody feels like doing this, it'll be great. If not, the article will remain at B-class. A completely different matter is that other editors will probably criticise the article for not devoting much space to the life of ordinary Danes during the occupation, nor to the work of the Danish resistance, but it is even less likely that this will be fixed before this deadline. Valentinian T / C 21:17, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Btw. Something I've been wondering about; the description of A-quality states that Good Article status is not required, that seems to imply we can actually use it, even if GA fails? Carewolf 21:34, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
The way things are going currently, I don't think so. A-class review will no doubt be the next thing introduced. Of course, it would be kinda fun to see this or another article relating to Denmark on the main page one day, but I don't want to spend dozens of hours on it. I have to prioritise my thesis, and in fact, I never cared much about WWII. If I'll ever try bringing an article further up the ladder, it be coat of arms of Denmark just for kicks, but in any case, that will be *after* I've finished my thesis and at a time of my own choosing. Svend Aage Madsen

Hi! I made some minor updates to the page about Svend Aage Madsen after a page about one of his novels - Let Time Pass - which I had written was nominated for speedy deletion for being on too insignificant a subject. The question here mainly is whether Madsen himself is an important Danish writer or not. Since I don't speak Danish perhaps some of Denmark project participants would be able to either bring the Madsen's page to a level which would make someone believe that he is an important author (off course, only if he really is important) or find some reviews of the above mentioned book which would state that it isn't a completely worthless book. Thanks in advance! --Kazhe 14:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I am confused: You say that you don't speak Danish, yet you somehow managed to create an article with a plot summary of an untranslated Danish novel?
Svend Åge Madsen is certainly an important and notable author, recipient of many literary prizes, with several secondary-source monographs specifically about his work. The list at http://www.litteraturpriser.dk/aut/MS.htm#MSvendAageMadsen should give enough pointers for somebody to make notability unambiguous in his bio article.
However, it is not clear to me that Lad tiden gå ought to have an article of its own in the English-language Wikipedia, given that it is not available in an English translation, and neither is it a particularly central book in Madsen's production. Novels such as Tugt og utugt i mellemtiden or Se dagens lys which have been adapted for other media might qualify, but most of Madsen's work get its encyclopedic significance from being part of a collective of interconnecting tales. We would serve our readers better by describing Madsen's body of work as a whole in his article, rather than scattering it over a lot of little articles. –Henning Makholm 21:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi all I was sent here from WP:ANI with regard an article David Mader on which I wrongfully removed a Danish Language ref whould someone be able to verify the refs on this article or even better translate them thanks in advance for your help. BigDunc 17:32, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

He has blanked his user page and talk page. Can't really blame him though. The lunatics are running the asylum these days. This is a serious setback for all Danes here on enwiki. A lot of work will need to redelegated so I'll engage myself more actively in this project when I return. It would be greatly appreciated if as many of you as possible would drop by his talk page and show your appreciation for all his hard work here. EconomicsGuy (talk) 15:22, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Denmark - article request for Pharma Nord

Hi everybody,

I've written a draft for an article on Pharma Nord, a Danish pharmaceutical company. As I am employed by the company, I'm posting here to request having it published as an article, as outlined in the WP:BFAQ. Since Pharma Nord is a Danish company, this should fall into the area of WikiProject Denmark.

The draft is posted on my talk page. Thank you in advance. (JTrier (talk) 10:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC))

Category-class?

A number of articles in Category:Unassessed-Class Denmark articles are listed as "Category" class (see Category talk:Cold War passenger ships of Denmark) which doesn't exist. Either a new Category-class should be created or they should be changed to "class=NA" and put into Category:Non-article Denmark pages. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:14, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I implemented the laziest solution I could think of: making class=Category (and class=Template while I was at it) an alias for class=NA which should move them to the non-article category once the servers get around to it. Hemmingsen 20:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 576 of the articles assigned to this project, or 14.3%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Article on Danish author Jens Fink-Jensen

I have here in Copenhagen been working on the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Fink-Jensen. Someone has quit recently put a notice in the beginning of the article saying that "the article needs additional citations for verification". I have read the instructions on the related wiki page but I still can't figure out which information is requested. The article about Jens Fink-Jensen is based on partly the Danish wiki article about Jens Fink-Jensen (which I have mainly written and updated), on various Danish literature and websites and some international websites. Some of them are listed as external links at the buttom of the article. For my work I have also received verification directly from Mr Fink-Jensen and from his websites, www.jensfink.com and www.coast-line.eu. Most of the background material is in Danish. Will someone please tell what is needed in the article? It has been on Wikipedia for about three years now, and never before has anyone questioned the information in it. I can tell that all information in the article is correct and has been verified in many ways. Kind regards! :-) Poesi (talk) 20:43, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Editors will often slap a template like that on any article which lacks in-line citations or a reference section. That appears to be the case here. However, there is a further problem: the main source you list in the external links is self-written by the author. That's a problem (WP:SELFPUB) on a BLP where guidelines are appropriately strict. Instead, it's better to source it out with articles from Politiken, Berlingske Tidende, Weekendavisen, etc. That shouldn't be a problem for someone like Fink-Jensen. Let me take a look at it. And I'm going to move this discussion to the article talk page. CactusWriter | needles 11:04, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Denmark

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:31, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Denmark, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Denmark, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:Denmark articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

  1. Brørup
  2. Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance
  3. Funningur Church
  4. Kjóvadalur
  5. Kolding Municipality
  6. Stjerneborg
  7. Svínoy, Svínoy

...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 310 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Please let me know if this is useful, or if you have any questions! -- The Anome (talk) 11:40, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. The discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 April 14#Category:S-trains in Copenhagen could use input from more native speakers of Danish. In particular, a matter of contention is whether Category:S-train or Category:S-trains is the more appropriate name, which again depends on what is the actual name of the train system, and whether "tog" in related Danish names such as "DSB S-tog" is best interpreted as plural or singular. –Henning Makholm (talk) 14:05, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Prod template warning

During the week I added a propsed deletion template to The Ringbearer's Diary and the article on its author Peter Kjærulff. The actual prods are on grounds of being self-published based on what I could tell from the websites for book and publisher. I note that there are no articles on him in the Danish Wikipedia--Peter cohen (talk) 20:50, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Kjaerulff's book is listed in the Copenhagen library system as Ringbærerens dagbog, Lynge: Bogan, 1990. 2nd ed. 478 pages ISBN 87-7466-167-1. This is the second edition - the first printing was in 1985. He has written one other book and the publisher, Bogan, may be a vanity press. I have found no significant coverage for the books nor independent verifiability for Kjaerulff which could warrant articles about them. He seems to make a living by giving informal lectures about composers at various locations including his own house. I see no problem with these articles being deleted. Erics of Denmark: Namng conventions

A recent undiscussed move of Eric of Pomerania to Eric VII of Denmark brought to my attention the fact that all the Erics of Denmark are located at their numerated titles. A short search of google books shows that at least some of them are pobably much more widely known by their cognomens and that according to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles)#Sovereigns they should be located by their cognomen.

The results of my search are such:

Eric I of Denmark 44 hits - Eric the Good 332 hits - Eric Ejegod 86 hits (in English language books)
Eric II of Denmark 48 hits - Eric the Memorable 30 hits- Eric Emune 61 hits (in English language books)
Eric III of Denmark 27 hits - Eric the Lamb 89 hits
Eric IV of Denmark 33 hits - Eric Plovpenning 79 hits
Eric V of Denmark 28 hits - Eric Klipping 85 hits
Eric VI of Denmark 51 hits - Eric Menved 389 hits
Eric VII of Denmark 111 hits - Eric of Pomerania 651 hits

I would suggest that at least Eric I, Eric VI and Eric VII be moved to Eric the Good, Eric Menved and Eric of Pomerania respectively. For some of the others it might be a matter of discussion and consensus whether they should be moved or whether they should stay.·Maunus·ƛ· 15:20, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Not sure this is the right approach. You really have to sift through lots of links, to find a candidate for translation, and many Danish articles are not sourced, giving them low shelf life as new articles on en.wikipedia. Power.corrupts (talk) 08:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Gave it a stab here, needs more work. Note: the article is about JH Mansa (his son) it reads like an obituary, but I cant relly tell from the first page. 3rd column mentions JL Mansa, JH's father

Jacob Henrik Mansa is born in Frederiksborg 8th July 1797 and is third son of Caste gardener, later Castle [overseer, administrator?] on Fredensborg [Castle] Johan Ludvig Mansa. The family was originally reformed and is thought to have emigrated from France at the end of the 17th century with the [repeal?] of the Nantes decree. J.H. Mansa's father mentioned above was born in Zweibrücken 10th April 1740 and son of the Hofgartner [=gardener to the (royal) court)] at that location. In his 26th year he came to Denmark, first as gardener on the Herregård [=Manor] "Fuglsang" [ie. "bird song"] on Lolland, he was later employed at "Marienlyst" at Helsingør, then in Frederiksborg and from 1799 on Fredensborg, where he died 13th April 1820. As the author of the well-known, and still widely used "Garden katekimus" and drafting (the book) "Gardening [structures?] the English way" (poor translation) he has in no small measure exercised a fortunate influence on the development of "Gardening" (horticulture?) in this country; he was greatly appreciated by the King Frederik VI and was by him decorated with [honorary order of the men of the Dannebrog] (poor translation, but "Dannebrog" is our flag). His wife Louise Toxwærd with whom he had 10 children, of which six are still alive, was daughter of Henrik Christian Toxwærd and Anna Margrethe Hauendorff, born Nykjøbing on Sjælland 1759 and dead in Fredensborg 1853.

Dansk biografisk Lexikon

This is another useful source [3], [4]. It says he in particular distinguished himself as a pomolog but also as a gardener. He excellled in transforming French style gardens into English style. July 1st 1772 he married Anne Christine Voigt and after her death, (he married on) Oct 9 1791 Louise Toxwærd. In 1787 he wrote "Havekatekismus eller Grundregler for nyttige Havevæxters Dyrkning i Danmark" (Garden katekismus or basic rules for growing of useful plants in Denmark), it won a prize by Kgl Danske Landhusholdningsselskab, it was reviewed by two distinguished gardeners and published in 1789. 5th ed. was published in 1843 by his son JLM. In 1798 he released/published "Udkast til Have-Anlæg i den engelske Stil samt Anvisning til at índdele og beplante smaa partier" (Draft to garden-"design" [hm?] in the English style with instructions on how to divide and plant small lots (?)) There have been several writing reforms in Denmark since then and Google translate will probably be of limited value to you. The katekismus was translated into Swedish, see the Swedish lexicon [5] and there is a small footnote that probably says that a German version was translated into Swedish in 1803. In the "Bülow collections of manuscripts" in Sorø another text of his is kept (in hand writing), "Om havedyrkning" (On gardening / On the growing/cultivation of gardens) - sorry for the imprecise translations, I'm not in the garden lingo. Perhaps others can help out here. Power.corrupts (talk) 16:48, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:12, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

FYI - A massive discussion is taking place at a Request for comment (RfC) Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people. About 50k of articles are currently unreferenced and therefore in danger of deletion, some of those are on Danish subjects (like Birthe Kjær, deleted for that reason, now referenced and restored). The cleanup link in the title above points to a list of unreferenced articles with the WikiProject Denmark template on its talk page. Please revise articles on the list,

  1. review them for contentious unsourced information pr WP:BLP concerns
  2. add references (you may e.g. lift references from the Danish page, if that page exists)
  3. remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template from the article.

We need a lot of hands for this task. Thanks Power.corrupts (talk) 19:19, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Danish Resistance

My father who passed away a year and a half ago, told my brother and I stories of him as a radio operator for the Danish resistance during WW2. He never mentioned any specific group that he belonged to. Only that he started out by fighting in the Winter War in Finland. While I was looking up Danish resistance history on-line, some of the stories he told us were vividly represented in the historic accounts on Wikipidia. I was wondering if anybody know of someone I could get in contact with ,who would be able to help me find out more of what my father may have been involved with during the War? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.162.239.31 (talk) 16:31, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

I suggest you check out
  • a database over Danish resistance people [6].
Other organizations of interest may be
  • Frihedsmuseet (Museum of Danish Resistance) [7]
  • Horserød-Stutthof Foreningen [8]
  • www.befrielsen.dk/ [9]
As a general rule you should be able to communicate in English, feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions. Power.corrupts (talk) 10:17, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Dear project editors, would someone be kind enough to go look at this new article on the award-winning Danish designer Poul Lange, who lives and works in NYC? If anything needs fixing please go ahead and fix it or let me know what needs doing. I am going to try to see if it can become a DYK, so thanks for any help you can give me. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 20:33, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The author has provided some information via the OTRS system which can be used to expand and source this article. I've placed this information on the talk page. If some interested editors could work the appropriate information into the article, that would be great. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:41, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

I should also note that this article is currently tagged as an unreferenced BLP. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:41, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Denmark/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Denmark/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Majbølle Mølle

A Danish-reading reviewer is requested to verify the hook for the Majbølle Mølle article at T:TDYK#Majbølle Mølle please. Mjroots (talk) 13:53, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I have checked the references and corrected the spelling of a couple of names. An extra set of (Danish) eyes wouldn't hurt, though. Favonian (talk) 14:39, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Added Danish service pistols and rifles

I noticed Denmark's conspicuous absence in the Service rifle and Service pistol articles, and having recently run across some Danish troops and wondered about their gear (Sig P210 pistol, as it turns out), I went and added a few entries for Denmark to the list. Any help would be appreciated in improving and expanding the material! MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:01, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

1888 travellers to Copenhagen

As much as anything a curiosity - but nonetheless a curiosity which I found very useful in researching an article - is this 1888 travellers guide to Copenhagen.

The fact that it includes such useful phrases as “Good-day, Sir!” (the haughty exclamation mark isn't my addition) and “Please brush my boots” - not to mention the invaluable fact that the return train fare from Copenhagen to Roskilde was the princely sum of 3 kr 40 øre, or 1 kr 69 øre if you couldn't stump up the cash for first class and were forced to slum it in third - certainly dates it to 'klunketiden' .. but still an interesting and quite amusing historic perspective.

In the article on the Battle of Copenhagen (1807), the hyperlink to the Rev. William Leigh article is wrong. The Rev. William Leigh in that article died in 1639, 168 years before the Battle of Copenhagen. 199.193.10.250 (talk) 22:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Leigh Hogan, Tampa, Florida, USA

Politkens Danmarkshistoriske Konkurrence

Kr.

Danish history competition by Politiken.
On behalf of the publisher Politiken it is a pleasure for me to be able to attest that the included prize, which You have won due to Your historical insight in the competition by Politiken, is a battle axe made of stone. The Single Grave culture, younger Stone Age, approximately 2000 BC.
Thorkild Ramskou, Inspector at the National Museum. 212.10.95.14 (talk) 05:01, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
It would appear to be about some sort of literature (or possibly poetry) prize awarded / sponsored by Politikens Forlag (English: Politiken's Publishing House), which is a non-fiction publishing house associated with Politiken, Denmark's second largest broadsheet newspaper. It reads:
Politiken's Danish History Competition
On behalf of the Politiken Publishing House; I am pleased to be able to certify that the enclosed prize, awarded to you - for your historical insights - in the Politiken's competition, is a stone battle axe from the Single Grave culture of the Late Stone Age and dates from around 2000 BC.
Thorkild Ramskou, Inspector of Antiquities at the National Museum of Denmark
Thorkild Ramskou's Wikipedia entry in Danish reads something along the lines of:
Thorkild Ramskou (1915 - 1985) was an archaeologist, author and the Inspector of Antiquities at the National Museum of Denmark's department of Danish Prehistory. He led several major excavations - including Lindholm Hills and Ravning Bridge - and wrote articles and books on, amongst other things, the Viking Age. (You will find his theory on Viking navigation with sunstones mentioned in the article on Viking longships).
He became a student at Aalborg Cathedral School in 1933 and gained a Magister Artium / Master of Arts in Prehistory and Archaeology in 1946. In 1946 he joined the National Museum of Denmark as a curator and became an inspector of antiquities at the museum in 1962. From 1962 until 1973 he was also the secretary of the Royal Nordic Society of Antiquaries.
Thorkild Ramskou was one of the few Danish archaeologists with a serious interest in archaeoastronomy.
The article then goes on to list his bibliography of thirteen books, published between 1947 and 1985. navlebeskuelse (talk) 10:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Missing information in Thy page.

There is a little information missing on this page: Thy (district)

In the "Nature" section, the second sentence ends too early.

"...covered by sea in neolithic times, but fell dry because of the"

Could the author have meant to say that the land rose because of Post-glacial rebound?

Carl Nielsen 150th anniversary 2015

Danish composer Carl Nielsen was born on 9 June 1865, so 2015 will be his 150th anniversary. I would like to create a task force to prepare for this. I think it should be located on Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music because of the substantial focus on music, but it should in my view be a task force shared with Wikiproject Denmark. Please comment about the task force creation here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Classical music#Carl Nielsen 150th anniversary 2015. — Mirokado (talk) 20:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Denmark articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Denmark articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

DEMA and Barnstar

Hi all.. I have added the Danish barnstar to Wikipedia:Barnstars/Barnstar of National Merit. I have mergede Danish Emergency Management Agency and Danish National Rescue Preparedness‎ into one. No reason to have to, since the "Danish National Rescue Preparedness‎" term is no longer relevant or used that much in Denmark. I am a DEMA volunteer firefighter. Will work to get Danish Emergency Management Agency to at least WP:GOOD status. I know a lot about DEMA and the Danish emergency services but my english grammar sucks a bit. If anybody wants to clean up/copyedit the DEMA page, I will be VERY glad. Skibden (talk) 20:05, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
