Erm....the very dark salmon pink/red background is pretty intense on the eyes. I'd recommend toning it down a bit (just a pale pink maybe?) Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:11, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I was thinking that as well. do you know the colour code?Thomas888b(Say Hi) 15:11, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Not very well, but I can find a nice subtle shade..that blue is still a bit...vibrant.Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:36, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Also, you want to veer away from anything which looks like owning articles - the idea is that this group's interested in articles which are about Essex, not that all Essex articles are officially Wikiproject Essex (if that makes sense), so I'd reword "WikiProject Essex currently has no Featured articles falling under its scope." to "There are no Essex-related Featured Articles". WRT to Good Articles, Romford is a former part of Essex, so might be good to list for folks to get an idea. Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:20, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, That sounds like a good idea. Thomas888b(Say Hi) 15:11, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Collaboration idea

Many wikiprojects have collaborations, which early on (~4-5 years ago) were weekly or fortnightly. As editing has gotten more rigorous with referencing etc, these have become monthly affairs. The idea is that some big articles might be too arduous for one editor to get to GA or FA, and hence a concerted effort by a few editors might make this alot easier. Essex is an obvious choice, while buffing Colchester, Chelmsford or Southend-on-Sea might benefit from extra hands on deck. I'll post some links in a sec. Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:42, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Here's an example of layout --> WikiProject Birds has a Collaboration page - past collaborations are listed here. So, folks nominate articles they think'd make good articles to work on together on a collaboration page. One person tries to coordinate the thing and set a date to choose. So maybe if one were to set this up now, then give it a week or so to get the ball rolling (let's say Feb 12 or something). Other folks vote on nominations and when Feb 12 rols around, whichever has the most votes becomes the Official Wikiproject Essex collaboration for a month....and folks try to improve it. If you're amenable, I can help set up the pages. Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:48, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
    • Yes, That sounds great! Could you set that up. Also, do you know how to make categories, and how to make pages automatically appear in them if they have the talkpage banner? Thanks, Thomas888b(Say Hi) 15:08, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
      • (groan) I need to sleep here - it is very late here in Oz. Listen, I will set it up sometime tomorrow as it involves a little bit of fiddling, not too much though :) Casliber (talk · contribs) 15:22, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Assessment backlog

You currently have a backlog of some 30 or so mill-related articles to assess. I'm not sure whether you are sticking to the current Essex or are also going to maintain an interest in those parts of Essex stolen by Greater London over the years. I've tagged a few articles that meet this criteria with WP:ESSEX anyway. Feel free to assess or remove the template from those articles' talk pages. Mjroots (talk) 14:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I've also added a good article (Charles Fryatt) and assessed the importance as low. Feel free to change the assessment. Mjroots (talk) 14:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
We are including historical Essex as well (bits of Essex stolen). I am going through the mill articles and trying to asses them. Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:37, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Shortcuts

I've created a couple of shortcuts for you. WP:ESSEX leads to the project page, WT:ESSEX leads to this talk page. Mjroots (talk) 14:36, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:35, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Chelmsford

I have put Chelmsford as:

WikiProject iconEast Anglia Project‑class Top‑importance
WikiProject iconThis article is within the scope of WikiProject East Anglia, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of East Anglia on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
ProjectThis article has been rated as Project-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.
TopThis article has been rated as Top-importance on the project's importance scale.

Because it is Top impotance (county town) an it is a good article. I am suggesting, maybe an a? what do others think?
Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Individual editors should not assess an article above B class. For A class, the article would have to go through WP:ACR. In the medium term, I'd say work towards GA status if you wish. ACR and FAC come much later than that. Mjroots (talk) 19:56, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Thomas, rating is easy - rough guide - one or two sentences = stub, bit larger with some mention of a couple of key points = start. Most decent-sized articles are 'C' with lots of info, 'B' is with just about everything inline-referenced and on way to GA...Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:20, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Cool, Thanks again, Thomas888b (Say Hi) 20:35, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Assessment table

I've managed to get your assessment table up and running. A bot updates this on a daily basis, which is why it appears a bit out of date atm. Mjroots (talk) 12:44, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

fantastic! Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:06, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! :-) Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:27, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Join!

Hi, I've added my name to the list of members because I live in Essex and believe the articles coverage only minimally reflects Essex as a place. I particularly think Essex history should be delved into more, because the local history of Essex is very interesting. I would love to get involved! ~~With love; MikeyMand :)~~ (talk) 19:03, 18 February 2011 (UTC) Mikeymand

welcome to the team Mikey! Thomas888b (Say Hi) 15:36, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

I've fixed up the introduction of Billericay, which had a little warning. ~~With love; MikeyMand :)~~ (talk) 18:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Every little helps. I've been away a bit, but I'm hoping to get back into it. Thomas888b (Say Hi) 17:40, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Basildon and Billericay Parliament

I've put Basildon and Billericay (UK Parliament constituity) as in the scope of WikiProject Essex. Hope this is Ok ~~With love; MikeyMand :)~~ (talk) 15:32, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I Think so, It's all about Essex isn't it? Thomas888b (Say Hi) 17:20, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

List of Church of England churches in Thurrock

I've left a note about issues at Talk:List of Church of England churches in Thurrock#Missing churches. I'd do it myself, but I don't live in Socketts Heath any more, so I can't nip round and take pictures. --Robert EA Harvey (talk) 01:35, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of bus routes in Colchester This Essex related article is being considered for deletion. Project members may wish to consider if it is worth saving.--Charles (talk) 21:48, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Essex Cricket and Cricketers

Hi the I'm from Essex, and Essex County Cricket page really needs help, as do some of the main players like Graham Gooch and Nasser Hussain (both ex-England captains but with less quality content than very minor players from elsewhere) I have worked on both quite a bit but better structure is needed on all.
