You are welcome. Incidentally, is this WP:IOWA's first featured article? It appears to be the only one you have at the moment, but I find it hard to believe that no other Iowa related article has gotten to FA. TomStar810 (Talk) 17:54, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I think we may have had one or two others - though I'm not finding any. There's been a recent drive to get Davenport, Iowa up to featured status, and we have several GA-Class articles. History of Iowa

Boy, the History of Iowa page is in sad shape, alomst no refs, very scattershot subjects, etc. I've helped with the very early history, but once it leaves the Native American period I am out of my field of expertise. Any history majors out there? Bill Whittaker (talk) 16:58, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Since the article falls under the scope of this project, I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Assessing Iowa Related Articles

I have been working to improve the article for Stone City, Iowa and others articles related. Could you please help by asessing the article and adding to the discussion ways to improve the article? Historical population data

The following files contain population data for every city in Iowa, for every decade each city existed:

I don't have the time or patience to add the data, but it would be great if someone could. I recommend using {{Historical populations}}. Psych less 00:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Added two cities today as a trial run on this. Curious about which template is preferred. The Des Moines template is USCensusPop, but also found a template called "Historical Populations". Compare the display between Des Moines and Indianola for examples. Which should be used? I think I may be able to automate this so want to do it correctly.

Seems that the Historical Populations template may eventually supersede the USCensusPop template, so moving ahead with that one. Concentrating on county seats to start. Not convinced that we need to go beyond that. Does every little backwater town in Iowa need a historical population table? Thinking also in terms of maintenance after the 2010 census. Thoughts?

Ya, it would take far too much time and effort to do every city, without a bot of some sort. Either county seats, or perhaps cities over, say 10,000? But in Iowa, there might not be a whole ton of cities over 10,000 CTJF83Talk 22:05, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Iowa Rivers

Have done quite a bit of work adding geographic coordinates and geobox2 templates to Iowa rivers and creeks. Many of these articles need improvement. I'm not certain that many of the little creeks meet notability status, but somebody apparently thought so. The Missouri river articles are very well done and have lots of detail and references. It would be nice to get the Iowa river articles up to the state of the Missouri river articles. This will take some time and I don't currently have a lot of references.
