Japanese translation needed for Japan at the 2017 Asian Winter Games article

[edit]

Hi, I am working on the Japan at the 2017 Asian Winter Games article and needed help translating the names from this source:[1]. Is anyone able to help? Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:47, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Which pages? As far as I can see all names are also spelled out in Hiragana/Katakana, so it would be easy to transcribe them. bamse (talk) 20:30, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The names are currently missing from the following sections: Biathlon, Curling, Ice hockey, and short track speed skating. What's also missing is the events of all the sports minus speed skating. I'd also like to know the translated title of the document. Thanks!! @bamse Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:12, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This might do for the title.

第8回アジア冬季競技大会(2017/札幌)日本代表選手団 名簿
2017Asian Winter Games Japanese Team Roster

If names are missing, that might be because the athletes haven't been selected yet. – Margin1522 (talk) 06:37, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Except, of course, do not use those horrible Japanese numerals, a relic of 1970s computing... Imaginatorium (talk) 07:47, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. – Margin1522 (talk) 10:47, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Should have been more clear, when I meant the sections above I meant in the article. So those are the sports that do not have names listed for them on the article, which this source should provide (hence the need for translation). Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added biathlon and short track speed skating names. bamse (talk) 14:40, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The new year period has come and gone, but an unreferenced article with some very dubious claims remains with us. Would anyone like to tackle it? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:17, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on the talk page. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:27, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Karolina Stycznska

[edit]

Hi WP:JAPAN. I've started a new draft at Draft:Karolina Stycznska. So far, it's not much more than a two sentence stub and a photo, but there are quite a bit a sources to work with. If anyone would like to help fleshing it out a bit, then please feel free to do so. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:21, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: I tweaked it a little, and then moved it to mainspace. It needs a copy edit for standard English. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:46, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look Nihonjoe. I'm not sure what you mean by "standard English". I am a native speaker, but not a writer by trade. Feel free to clean things up as you deem necessary. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:55, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: There were just a few words missing here and there. I'm working on it right now. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:57, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. The section headings might also need to be changed to something more appropriate. I just added them as such to give the draft some shape. There also still needs to be content added about her joining the Japan Shogi Asscoiation's 研修会, being promoted to 3-kyu (temporary pro-status) and then finally 2 kyu (regular pro-status). She also has done some official online game commentary in English for a title match as part of the JSA's attempts to further internationalize shogi (see kifulog.shogi.or.jp/eiou/2016/12/post-89f8.html), but I'm not sure how to include that yet. Do you think this is something which might become appropriate for a DYK? -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:09, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, it would be good for DYK. She's the first to do something, and that's always a good hook. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:33, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I added the article to wikidata.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 22:23, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Eiko Shimamiya and discography articles

[edit]

I may have stumbled upon a WP:WALLEDGARDEN with regards to this singer, and would like a check from experienced editors in the genre. The article on Shimamiya herself is sources to a music school's webpage where she is apparently a teacher, a blog, her Twitter, the webpage of her production group, and Anime New Network. Overall, not an inspiring bunch of sources, and ones that raise WP:RS concerns. The articles on elements of her discography are even worse, being unsourced or sourced to a single database track/personnel listing. There are no significant links in to these article from outside the garden (i.e., from a single to an album or and album to a single to the artist). Attempting to satisfy WP:BEFORE on these articles is not showing anything significant in English sources or searchable using the transliterated titles. Out of an abundance of caution, before being so deletionist as to mass-nominate her discography, I am bringing the matter here for (hopefully) expert insight. Thank you in advance. Asahi Shimbun's "Comfort Women" Coverage Issue

[edit]

Can others take a look at Asahi Shimbun's "Comfort Women" Coverage Issue? It seems to be largely a translation of the corresponding Japanese wiki page, but it shares some of that page's problems, such as poor reference format. I also can't help but think this is biased (note the addition of "Propaganda" in the See Also section), but I am not familiar enough with the issue to address it point by point. Perhaps there are others who are more expert. Michitaro (talk) 02:08, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's been deleted. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:54, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
