Getting a User Name Added to the Worklist

I'm also feeling like a "slow kid at the back of the class." (Shoutout to Gog the Mild for the introductory phrasing.)

I added my name to the list of participants for the April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive, and have been working away (created a requested article, etc.), but just noticed that my User Name, 47thPennVols, isn't listed on the Worklist page. Do I need to enter my info on the Worklist page, or does an administrator need to do it for me? (If an administrator must enter the info, could one of the Milhist admins please list my info?) @47thPennVols: All part of the service. Make sure that you get lots of articles on to it mind. Shout if anything else seems obscure. Open tasks template

I am probably being the slow kid at the back of the class, but could someone explain what "Open tasks templates updated" means? Ideally speaking slowly. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:27, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

The note on the drive´s main page states "This includes identifying requested articles, or articles that need clean up, citations, images or expansion. Please note, an editor can only claim points once per task force page, regardless of how many edits are made." Following the given example of the Japanese military history task force you´ll find the template both embedded on the taskforce`s main page, section "Open tasks", or directly as template under Template:WPMILHIST Announcements/Japanese military history. If you come accross a topic that is deserving an article on its own or has an article that needs improvement but for whatever reasons you don´t plan to do that yourself ... you can edit the list (template) of the belonging MILHIST taskforce and add said topics/articles into the respective requesting section. From the formulation it seems that only that way is getting points; and that working on the articles already within the open task templates and then deleting them from the same after solving the problems (or simply deleting already solved ones) would not. @Gog the Mild and GELongstreet: G'day, it refers to updating the various announcements templates for each task force (through adding items, or removing them). For instance, with this edit: [1] I added a few. Or this edit where I added some, but removed a couple (including one I wrote): [2]. If you work on an article that is on the open task list, and then remove it from that list, you are updating that list, so it would be a valid claim for points, IMO. The spirit of this item of the contest is to reinvigorate the lists, so I intend to be pretty liberal with the definition of "updating". Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 00:21, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

@AustralianRupert: And good day to you. Thank you. A separate issue. I have done work on some 'generic' articles such as Non-combatant or Impact of war on children. I have seen similar articles tagged as task forces SciTech, Logistics, Culture[!], National and no task force. I would be grateful if you could clarify. Apologies if this is already explained somewhere and I simply haven't looked hard enough. I am having a similar issue with articles such as Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 or Treaty. Thanks.

And another query. Would articles such as International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia or International Criminal Court be within the scope of the project? Ditto for UN or similar peace-keeping actions - even if no violence ensues? Thanks again. Gog the Mild (talk) 12:56, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

G'day, not every article will fit under a task force. Having said that non combatant, treaty and some of the others might fit in the science, technology, and theory task force; the UN peacekeeping operations would be in our scope, IMO, as would International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and ICC. G'day all, the drive has now concluded. Thank you to all who participated. Can I please ask that participants please finalise their worklists? When doing so, please only include work that was concluded between 1 and 30 April. I will wait 24 hours or so, and then look to archive the page, so that tallying can commence.
