Carl Pohlad
Crossposting this here and at the wikiproject mlb: The Carl Pohlad article is lacking. Can we build a proper article for the man? He's all over national news right now (died in the last 24 hours). I'm afraid I'm not of much use anymore, don't have the time, but I was hoping for a better article when I got online today after hearing the news. Invitation to Minnesota Voices Online community/Unconference to MN Wikipedians
I'd like to invite active Wikipedians in Minnesota to join the Minnesota Voices Online community of practice: http://e-democracy.org/mnvoices An "unconference" is in the works and we'd like have some of the more active contributors of Wikipedia who live in Minnesota (particularly Greater Minnesota) join us. I am not sure if this is the best place to reach you - if not, please tell me where I should post. One idea I am thinking about promoting is some sort of Wikipedia Weekend where we would encourage people interested in improving/updating/correcting the content about their local Minnesota community to gather in local places around the state. Such an idea could create a big etiquette mess if those already knowledgeable about how to contribute properly to Wikipedia are not involved. Young–Quinlan
I see that there's no article about Young–Quinlan (with an ndash, of course, i.e. Young-Quinlan with a hyphen should redirect to the page with the ndash). One Thanksgiving Day, 2004, the StarTribune ran an article about a book being written about Elizabeth Quinlan, who is mentioned in some Wikipedia articles, but lacks her own article. The clothing manufacturing company of which she was co-founder, Young–Quinlan, was reported in that article to have gone out of business in (I think?) 1986. The fact is, I had not noticed until reading that newspaper article in 2004 that Young–Quinlan was no longer in business. I had grown up accustomed to seeing the Young–Quinlan label. The only places where you find the name Young–Quinlan mentioned in Wikipedia now is where it mentions the Young–Quinlan Building in Minneapolis, so called (obviously) because it was the retail outlet of that company, whose products were also sold in innumerable department stores and other places where clothing is sold.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Assessment Drive
Would someone be interested in organizing an assessment drive to assess all the articles under this project's scope? There are currently 1,203, which is a bit more than I am willing/able to handle on my own, at least in a reasonable amount of time. With WikiProject Norse History and Culture, I helped to get a drive going that ended up assessing ~1,500 articles in just over 4 months. GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. Info box anomaly
I'm an infrequent minamally experienced Wikipedia editor form Mpls, MN - Hennepin County which I happened to look up today to get it's area which was not displayed in it's info box. I edited it and Anoka county's page (whose area was displayed) for comparison. I updated the tags on the Henn. pg to include "sq_mi" for example which fixed the problem. But then I noticed that the Henn info box displayed better relative to the headings - Total, - Land,- Area. On the Anoka page the mi and km numbers are on separate lines unrelated to the headings.

TCF Bank Stadium GA Sweeps: On Hold
I have reviewed TCF Bank Stadium for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Attention Minnesotans: photos needed
There is a critical and urgent need for photographs of glorified rice, seven-layer salad, and cookie salad. If someone wants to volunteer for the dangerous mission of attending the Stone Creek Jamboree, I'm confident that there will be opportunities to photograph these items and many many more. False claims about the Minneapolis Skyway System
In the wikipedia article it says that this system is "The extensive system is renowned as the largest continuous system in the world," At only on 7 mils in length it is clearly inferior to the similar Plus 15 system in Calgary Alberta which has "a total length of 16 kilometers (10 mi) and 59 bridges." The West Edmonton Mall may have been surpassed by the Mall of America, but Alberta still has a few things that are bigger than what you have in Minnesota
Personally an above ground sky walk is something every Northern City should have and it does look like a nice place to get relief from the cold winter winds.

- The confusion appears to be over the idea of what constitutes a "system". The Calgarians seem to think you can include various disconnected clusters and claim the biggest. Minneapolis claims the longest continuous system. Then again, if you want to use the Calgary rules, you can then easily say the Twin Cities (MPLS/St. Paul) have the largest system in the world. --Bobak (talk) 16:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Highway 24 Bridge
The highway 24 bridge article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_24_Bridge contains an error in the data box on the right. The current coordinates: 45°25′04″N 93°02′37″W are in a farmer's field in Isanti County, at least 10 miles from the Mississippi River, which the bridge supposedly crosses, and is nowhere near Highway 24. The Minnesota county navigational box templates place themselves in their respective county categories. This is the kind of self-reference we try to avoid and it is not helpful for Wikipedia users to see our infrastructure in the article space categories. I have started the cleanup by removing Category:Minnesota county navigational boxes from Category:Minnesota counties. Each of the county templates needs a similar change. For example, tl:Template:Aitkin County, Minnesota appears in Category:Aitkin County, Minnesota. I propose we clean up all of these templates. As an example, I fixed Cottonwood County.[1].
I'm willing to go through and make these changes, but before starting I want confirmation this is the correct way to go. ✤ JonHarder talk 22:55, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
