Good article drive

I've gone ahead and submitted eight of my articles to GAN. Along with History of Mumbai, we have 9 Mumbai-related articles that can possibly attain GA status.

I was thinking that we all pick a top priority article each, and nominate it for GA status. Each article should take about a day to develop. Doesn't need to be too comprehensive, but make sure you use all information you can get from Google searches that throw up reliable sources.

No, I mean we need to do this: We need to get top priority articles to GA status. To do this, we first need to research on the content. These searches might help for example, on Marine Drive. google (some help), Google news, Google books, Google scholar, Times of India, Express India and Mid-Day websites. One you get as much information, write the article on what you can understand, in your own words. Attack on Mumbai

Hey where were all the editors???? November 2008 Mumbai attacks went total haywire. All the article is writen in American style. We required editors to form a majority to take desicissions. I'd like to draw attention to this image (File:2008 Mumbai terror attacks Metro before firing 1.jpg) (I've accidently overwritten it with another image. This image was taken by me of the gathered journalists at Metro Cinema, minutes before they were fired upon. It was blurry because of the poor light conditions, so I headed back in disappointment. The extent in the article references the M Ward boundary which also includes neighbourhoods of Deonar, Mahul, Anushakti Nagar, Govandi and Mankhurd. This has made it difficult to seperate these neighbourhoods from Chembur. Any word on how to find out Chembur's boundaries within M ward?
The history of Chembur as it reads now doesn't seem complete or upto the mark. Where can I research local history? I am also looking at developments right upto 2005 as history.

Articles on Neighbourhoods in Mumbai

Many of the articles in Category:Neighbourhoods in Mumbai (esp. on the areas along the railway line) need serious cleanup. They've deteriorated a lot in the past few months, due to constant addition of trivial information (such as trivial details about about non-notable buildings, schools and NGOs). Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

Wikimedia Mumbai Mailing List and Wikipedia 10th anniversary celebrations

New Volunteer coordinator for WikiProject Mumbai

We have been requesting the community at large in general for Volunteer coordinators for all the task forces/daughter projects of WikiProject India. We have also been requesting suitable editors to volunteer for this post. We have been making this request in those WikiProjects where no one can be seen taking up a clear leadership role to champion the cause of the WikiProject.

After a long time, we have found a volunteer for WikiProject Mumbai, User:Karthikndr who has agreed to be the volunteer coordinator. We welcome him in this onerous and prestigious venture and request all Task Force members to cooperate with him. Karthikndr is an enthusiastic and balanced editor. He has 12181 edits since 23 June 2010 and has autoreviewer, filemover and rollbacker rights. He has a challenging task in front of him. The WikiProject has 877 articles and many more undiscovered ones to steward. Please support him not only with moral support but edits, ideas, engagement and encouragement. More about volunter coordinators

The volunteer coordinator's roles include:

Do whatever needs doing in the WikiProject/task force, or getting it done along-with others.
Do everything that needs doing in the task force, or getting it done along-with others.
Look after the interests of the task force community in general and the articles in specific.
Represent the views of the task force wherever representation/participation is sought; to get a consensus where required and put forward the community's viewpoint.
Innovate and bring forth new initiatives, continue existing ones and retire defunct ones.
Maintain the task force infrastructure of pages.
Community development - recruitment, motivation, empowerment.
Join the mailing list for Wikipedians working on India related content on English Wikipedia (wikimedia-in-en [at] lists [dot] wikimedia [dot] org)
Provide reports, updates to the Community, for the newsleter and keep the community updated in general.

The Volunteer coordinator is a volunteer from the community and is answerable to the community. The volunteer enjoys the informal recognition and full support of the community. A volunteer coordinator is equal in all respects to all other editors except that he/she has the privilege to work on the WikiProject's wide range of interests. We trust him/her to take the best decisions and right actions. It is prestigious to be a volunteer coordinator as it signifies community trust reposed in an editor. However, the volunteer coordinator is open to recall by the community, should the community so decide that this is in the best interests of all concerned.

Any editor of good standing can volunteer or be chosen by the community. There is no rule which says a WikiProject can have only one volunteer coordinator but each should have at least one such person. User:Karthikndr will need co-coordinators to work alongside with him. We expect responsible editors to take up these volunteer positions as a natural progression of things. We expect them to work together in harmony, with wisdom and with consensus. If they find themselves in COI or unable to carry out their duties in good faith, we expect them to inform the community and surrender their post. Thanks a lot AshLin, and sorry for late reply. I had been busy for the past two days. On my lectures, instead of concentrating, I'm very much in deep thinking as what can be done. I will let you know what I come up. As of I'm thinking to get many volunteers roaming around Mumbai related articles to firstly sign-in the members list. On the way of INCTOM, i was in a consideration to take up History of Mumbai, which is a GA to make it a FA asap :). I recommend that first of all, you survey the few hundred articles of Mumbai, do minor cleanup along the way. Add each article to your watch list. Then prepare an outline of articles of Mumbai where you arrange the articles systematically in groups/topics/threads and also add whatever is needed as red links. Perth requested-move notification

An earlier requested-move survey generated lots of controversy and an arbitration case.

Therefore, this one is being posted here and in many other places, to gather a very wide range of opinions outside of the Scotland and Australia WikiProjects.

Background: There was a previous requested-move survey which ran from late May to mid June. There was a great deal of controversy surrounding the closure and subsequent events, which involved a number of reverts and re-reverts which are the subject of an ongoing arbitration case. Status of Sion

I've observed conflicting information about Sion on wikipedia. Sion is clearly mentioned as the last (northernmost) locality in Mumbai City District and It is not mentioned in Mumbai Suburban District. However practically everywhere else, including Sion, Mumbai it is described as a 'suburb' of mumbai. Any reason why? Trinidade (talk) 18:18, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? New Page Patrol

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers

New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles, including Mumbai related articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
