Coordinators for the Christianity projects

I have recently started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Coordinators? regarding the possibility of the various Christianity projects somewhat integrating, in the style of the Military history project, for the purposes of providing better coordination of project activities. Any parties interested in the idea, or perhaps willing to offer their services as one of the potential coordinators, is more than welcome to make any comments there. Thank you. List of Meeting Houses

Hi -- I see your WikiProject has a goal of creating articles on Meeting Houses, and has a subpage that is beginning to track just 4 such articles-in-progress. I am involved in WP:NRHP, which focusses on sites that are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. I see that there are easily 30 or 100 or more historic Meeting Houses that are NRHP-listed by quick searches on "Friends" and "Quaker". A list article of those could be created, and each one of them individually is notable for an article to be created. There are tools to help with the article creation, for example an NRHP infobox generator (which you can also use to run the quick searches i mentioned). If someone wants to start a list article, if you don't have one already, or invite me to join with any one you have in progress, I would be glad to help. I have created many hundreds of other NRHP articles, and specialize in list-articles on NRHPs that are also U.S. National Historic Landmarks.

I find my way to your wikiproject by User:NSH001's addition of your WikiProject link to Old Quaker Meeting House in New York City, an article I worked on that also was edited by User:Drum guy who I see is a member here.

By the way, I've been contributing to List of Anglo-Catholic Churches‎, which was recently embroiled in a nomination for its deletion. By refocusing that list only on individually notable churches (including NRHPs in the U.S. and listed buildings in the UK), the deletion was staved off.

Hope this might be helpful. If you want to reach me, please post to my Talk page, or to the Talk page of WP:NRHP. Cheers, doncram (talk) 00:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually maybe one of you could help me. Several Quaker Meeting Houses that are NHLs are listed here: List of churches that are National Historic Landmarks in the United States#NHLs that are Quaker meetinghouses. Along with some I am not sure about, whether they are Quaker or Puritan or other. I'd appreciate any help in identifying those. Thanks, doncram (talk) 01:00, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Coordinator?

It has probably been noticed by most of the editors who frequent this page that there is often a pronounced degree of overlap between the various projects relating to Christianity. Given that overlap, and the rather large amount of content we have related to the subject of Christianity, it has been proposed that the various Christianity projects select a group of coordinators who would help ensure the cooperation of the various projects as well as help manage some project related activities, such as review, assessment, portal management, and the like. Preferably, we would like to consider the possibility of having one party from each of the major Christianity projects included, given the degree of specialization which some of the articles contain. We now are accepting nominations for the coordinators positions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Coordinators/Election 1. Any parties interested in helping performing some of the management duties of the various Christianity projects is encouraged to nominate themselves there. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 17:34, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Much to my surprise, the period for the factual elections of the new coordinators has started a bit earlier than I expected. For what it's worth, as the "instigator" of the proposed coordinators, the purpose of having them is not to try to impose any sort of "discipline" on the various projects relating to Christianity, but just to ensure that things like assessment, peer review, portal maintainance, and other similar directly project-related functions get peformed for all the various projects relating to Christianity. If there are any individuals with this project who are already doing such activities for the project, and who want to take on the role more formally, I think nominations are being held open until the end of the elections themselves. And, for the purposes of this election, any member in good standing of any of the Christianity projects can either be nominated or express their votes at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Coordinators/Election 1. Thank you for your attention. John Carter (talk) 00:39, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Quakers in ODNB absent from Wikipedia

I've found that Quakers are statistically less well-represented in Wikipedia than they are in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. I've put a list of some Quakers prominent in ODNB but lacking a Wikipedia page on my userpage. Dsp13 (talk) 11:14, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Talk page archiving started

This page will now automatically archive discussion which no one has replied to in two years. It was getting a bit long.

Thanks, Drum guy (talk) 15:28, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I propose changing it to archive after there has been no discussion after one year. Any thoughts?

OK, I've gone ahead and done that. Thanks, Drum guy (talk) 23:04, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject name

Has anyone thought of changing the WikiProject name to WikiProject Quakerism (or possibly WikiProject Quakers)? I know it's not the full title, but I think it would be easier to work with - more simple - and I'd support mentioning that Quakers are formally known as the Religious Society of Friends many places that it would be appropriate in - definitely in the first sentence on WP:WikiProject Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). I just wonder if it's a needless chore writing it out.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Drum guy (talk) 15:34, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I've put a redirect from WIkipedia:WikiProject Quakers.Dsp13 (talk) 14:48, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. And what about changing the official name of the project to WikiProject Quakerism - what would people think about that? Drum guy (talk) 22:35, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I am not keen on the term "Quakerism" as the RSoF is in no way a unified faith community. The term implies a set of dogma to which all adherents subscribe. Conside the damage various ". . . ists" have done (excepting, of course, pianists and other instrumentalists). The Quaker faith never burnt anyone at the stake, "Quakerism" might. Vernon White . . . Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Quakerism

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:01, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Thomas Tompion has been added to the list of quakers [1]. Can please somebody find a source for this? On the internet I find very few instances (one is Encylopedia Of Antiques). Do we go ahead an consider him as a Friend? -- MHM (talk) 11:21, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Consensus_decision-making and Consensus_decision-making#Quaker_model have bugged me for some time; mostly because I feel what we practice is /not/ consensus, as such; it's determining unity with the will of the Divine.

However, I don't have a vision for what it should be replaced with. Sure, what we do is informed by consensus, and consensus forms have been affected by our decision-making process, and it's proper to recognize that.

Would anybody have a succinct way to state that, so at least we could put that at the top of the section on "Quaker Model"? As a step on the way toward a better answer? DAllen\talk 04:33, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Milestone Announcements

Announcements
  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 22:16, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:22, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Discussion regarding project organization

Possible navigation template

It doesn't seem that there is a box similar to Template:Roman Catholicism2 for use on the most important articles relating to the Quakers. Would the members of this project object to such a template, and, if you do think it is a good idea, which articles would you want to see included in it? I would think that the articles included would be effectively the most important ones, as those are the ones which give the best indication of the totality of the subject. Quakerism articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Quakerism articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Christianity portals

I am currently trying to get together some lists of articles relevant to each Christianity-related portal which could be used, at least potentially, to help bring all the extant portals up to Featured Portal status. The current, admittedly incomplete, list of articles, images, etc., relevant to each portal can be found at User:John Carter/Christianity portals. I also think that, at least in theory, we would probably best use a single article only in a single portal, and that we probably have enough articles to do that, although there might be a few exceptions. I would welcome input from anyone on the associated talk page regarding which articles and other materials they would like to see associated with which portal(s), any suggestions for additional portals or changes to existing portals, etc. Thank you. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Potential changes in subprojects regarding a proposal to change the scope of this project. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 15:17, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Someone has proposed a split of the Religious Society of Friends article into that and Quakerism. See discussions here and here I am not sure butthey also seem to want to split the category. I am concerned that they are claiming consensus on the side of a split when it does not seem they have even justified splitting the article, and you have not been told this is even being considered. In any case, I am letting you know now so you can have a say in the discussion. Rifter0x0000 (talk) 10:07, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

"Quaker Universalist Fellowship" article

Friends,

I am a convinced Friend, member of Columbia (SC) Monthly Meeting and attender of Jacksonville (FL) Monthly Meeting. I am also a public library reference librarian and a writer. My job involves me directly in the development and maintenance of online customer services.

In addition, I recently was invited to join the steering committee of Quaker Universalist Fellowship. In our December conference call meeting, I learned of the QUF committee's concern about shortcomings and inaccuracies in Wikipedia's Quaker Universalist Fellowship article. Another committee member tried to edit this article in November, but her edits were all rejected.

Because of my career experience with online resources, I was asked to pursue the matter. Today I learned that my committee colleague's edits were rejected because of the Conflict of Interest rule (which, of course, means that I cannot edit the article either).

I would appreciate collaborative help in updating and expanding the QUF article in ways which will not violate COI. If you can give assistance, please "talk" with me on my page.

Thanks, Crippled Wolf (talk) 22:47, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposed redirection of Christianity subproject talk pages

I have recently started discussion about possibly eliminating the use of a separate talk page for it here. Input from any interested editors is very welcome and encouraged. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 22:20, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

This article was revised by the organisation itself and has serious COI problems among other problems, not least being what looks like a lot of copyvio. It reads almost like a report of the organisation (which I guess isn't surprising) and may have to be stubbed due to the copyvio problems. Anyone want to help turn it into an article that follows our MOS and copyvio/pov etc policies? Dougweller (talk) 17:36, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

I added a few WP:RS sources to that page now. I am not sue who is active on this project, but those sources do have material for use. The previous page material was not incorrect by and large but was copyvio, and was also written with an inspirational rather than encyclopedic tone. But if WP:RS references are used, the page can come back to life. And there is, of course, also Indiana Yearly Meeting which is linked now, but also needs help. Request re Quaker Universalist Fellowship article issues

Hello! I am not a Quaker. I am a childless Jewish widow with no COI about the Society of Friends. I was noticing how a Wikipedia editor and sysop had zealously removed a spam link to some awful commodities trading system website, "Turtle Trading", that was improperly wedged into the BLP of a distinguished, PhD'd elderly mathematician. I went to his, Jerzy the sysop's, talk page to thank and praise him, and noticed an old (2011?) request for a non-Friend to peruse a Friend-related article that had run into trouble due to COI issues. Jerzy the sysop had not taken any action that I could tell (he was on a vacation from Wikipedia at that time, I think).

I perused the article, and left a lengthy assessment on Crippled Wolf's talk page, #3 re Quaker Universalist Fellowship. Said user hasn't shown signs of activity since Jan 2012. The article in question, Quaker Universalist Fellowship, is even mentioned right here, on this page, as a subsection located approx. three sections above mine, number 19, I think. Might someone have a look? I provided a lot of detail on that talk page. Feel free to move it if the article talk page would have been a more appropriate place to enter it.

My primary concern is for your Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) Wikiproject to ascertain whether or not the article is merely a thinly veiled e-commerce promotion. The website and subject matter seemed genuine in 2005, (content was devoted to Quaker-ish ecclesiastical matters), but some guy is selling a book there now. I don't want to go any further with this, due to my lack of subject matter knowledge. I know about mathematics and miracle-online trading scams, not about the Society of Friends. If I am incorrect, and all is well with this organization, and Wikipedia article, please excuse my ignorance, and don't take offense? Thank you. --FeralOink (talk) 16:55, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Olney Friends School

I have been looking into Olney Friends School for personal reasons and checked out the article here. It sounded promotional--at least to the extent that Friends do that--rather than encyclopedic, especially when I came across the pronoun "we" for the subject of the article. Also, the Talk page lists several associated Wikiprojects and this one should probably be added. Matchups 19:34, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   11:01, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory!
