Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Vermont sports
An editor has defined Template:Vermont Sports. This seems okay for professional sports teams. But he has included college teams as well. It is one thing to limit template to a select few, but to have everything in the world on it and/or suggest that individual article need be written on the Goddard croquet team, or the Johnson table tennis team, seems a bit much IMO. Would appreciate your support in limiting the scope of this template which will soon pop up in every place article if it hasn't already! Student7 (talk) 00:28, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. Stub article?
Two editors have taken over the United States presidential election in Vermont, 2008. The article has been "supplemented" with riveting material, perhaps with an FA, or at least a Pulitzer in mind! IMO it is well off WP:TOPIC. Because it is well off the beaten track, it is fairly easy to "take it over!" But it should still maintain Wikipedia standards IMO. In the meantime, we are lacking articles on the majority of presidential elections. Student7 (talk) 20:27, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

New Vermont "town" article
The New England town article became too cluttered with odd distractions to make any sense to a reader interested in Vermont. I extracted pertinent info from it and ported it to Vermont municipality. Vermont articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Vermont articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. "County" link
Someone has linked all Vermont counties to County (United States), which is fine. If you read far enough in the article, you find how limited the powers "probably" are in Vermont. We would better serve the reader by providing a "Vermont County" article which references this US county, but tells about country governance in Vermont up front, rather than late in the article. And probably more of it and more germane as well. Student7 (talk)
- That page says nothing about Vermont counties except what the average population is (as if that is at all relevant). Vermont is relatively (if not absolutely) unique among US states in having no county government except for the Superior Court and the Sheriff (technically, an officer of the Court). - Right. New England is unique in having weak, or in the case of Connecticut, non-existent, county government. We've tried defining general articles before for New England (towns) and wound up with all sorts of caveats which would have to mystify a casual reader, so one specific to Vermont should help. US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next
Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.
The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. A very interesting tool of the Wikimedia Toolserver is called WikiProject Popular pages lists. These lists are similar to project-related article lists like U. S. article lists used for generating assessment statistics. The Popular pages lists include the rank, total views, average daily views, quality and importance ratings for the listed articles. Here is the full list of projects using popular pages lists. An FAQ also is available at User:Mr.Z-man/Popular pages FAQ.
I recently added links to lists of popular pages as shown below to the U.S. Portal - WikiProjects box and the nominations sections for each of the selected articles boxes.

Because this project was not included, I am bringing up the popular pages tool here. This tool makes it very easy to track three of four balancing dimensions when selecting articles for showcasing at a portal - quality, importance and popularity. When tracking the fourth dimension, topic, the related article lists tool (such as for U.S. article lists tool) also might be useful by filtering on categories of interest.
If you do decide to use this tool, feel free to update Portal:United States/Projects/Popular pages as well.

There is no doubt that there are a lot of editors working on articles within the projects scope. No doubt at all and this is in no way intended to interfere with that. Please don't look at this as a badge of shame for the project. But the project itself has little activity and I would like to try and change that. Partly through automation of messages and alerts but also in member activity. All the individual projects will function as they do and the WPUS project will perform certain tasks just as the Federal government does things and the states do things also.
Just to clarify the project page with members stay basically as they are with the members able to dictate how things happen, scope of the project, etc. Its not going to be absorbed or dissolved in any way and the scope won't change unless the members want it too. The only change would be that the WikiProject banner would be replaced with the WPUS banner with WikiProject Vermont embedded within it. You can take a look at Category talk:Visitor attractions in South Carolina to see an example. All the projects use a standard group of parameters (Needs infobox, image, attention, etc), and the banner allows for things like project to do lists, articles with to do lists and articles with comments. I am working on developing some bot tasks that would automate some of the parameter values like needs infobox, image, attention, etc. and hope to have those out in the next couple months. It also reduces the number of banners on the talk page of the articles. All the projects use the same article classes and importance. I notice this project doesn't use importance or all of the quality classes and that is something I would like to adjust. This will allow article alerts to better notify the project members of things for discussion/deletion like images, categories, templates and articles.
How it will be supported can depend on what the members of the project want but typically WPUS is a bigger project with a lot more members, it has a newsletter, a monthly collaboration, multiple bots that run actively through the articles for various things (as can be seen on the members page) with more being setup as we go along. This means that it will be seen by a lot of people in a lot of ways. Up till now we have mostly been concentrating on building up the project but soon we are going to be starting to do some drives to build up articles, create new ones, etc. I hope this helps. --Kumioko (talk) 20:00, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template
Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. - Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Reorganization of Politics of Vermont

The article Vermont General Assembly lacks historical information about this legislature that dates from colonial times and was converted from a unicameral to a bicameral body. I have added it to the "tasks" template for the WikiProject. Hope someone with access to a good Vermont history can begin filling in the gaps. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Suggestion
Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Slavery in Vermont
I have created a short new article titled Slavery in Vermont, which would bear expansion. It says adult slavery was outlawed in Vermont in 1777 but violations were not unusual. It cites Harvey Amani Whitfield's book The Problem of Slavery in Early Vermont. However, I haven't yet seen that book -- only reviews and excerpts. Michael Hardy (talk) 21:50, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Vermont/Popular pages.
The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. Wholesale replacement of maps
User:Rcsprinter123 has been replacing town maps, which showed the location in the state and the location of the state in the country with maps that show the location of the town in the county and the county in the state. I feel that this approach should be subject to consensus, as it gives a county, versus a national-centric perspective. See: Special:Contributions/Rcsprinter123. - HopsonRoad: I am placing in the style of map which is standard for U.S. settlements. From Indiana to Hawaii, and now Vermont they all have them. Their use (and prior discussion for this) on so many articles is consensus enough, I feel. Rcsprinter123 (address) 21:46, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for checking in, User:Rcsprinter123. I'm fine with the "compromise" that you did at Norwich, which gives both scales. Could you point us in the project to some discussions where consensus on this was reached? As you may appreciate, not all state, town or country articles are addressed in a cookie-cutter manner. I understand that for smaller states such as Vermont, you'd also want to have a national context map on there as well, as at Norwich, either using the red dot map or one which highlights the state like, for example at Naples, Illinois or Grayson, Louisiana, so I'd be fine with incorporating that approach for Vermont infoboxes. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Vermont Constitutional officers
My comment is about this page.

The page incorrectly lists the Attorney General (AG) as a Constitutional officer. See Article 43 of the Vermont Constitution. It does not include the AG. https://legislature.vermont.gov/statutes/constitution-of-the-state-of-vermont/
The Wikipedia page on the Vermont AG also refers to it as "one of five cabinet-level constitutional officers" even though it notes subsequently that it was "created by an act of the Vermont General Assembly in 1790." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont_Attorney_General
