Great to see this! Scope + list-compilation questions

[edit]

I added a quick Q at the top of the page itself, where an intro could help set scope and link out to other lists of public art in the city.

Some of these can be found in different places, which don't share indexing or updates; it would be lovely for a category here to become a suitable superset. Is there a good example of this for other cities we might emulate?

  • Lists of monuments
  • Lists of public art
  • Lists of art in public buildings
  • Lists of art in universities and parks

@Sj I created the page with sculpture in mind, but I'm certainly not opposed to expanding the scope. I've move the page to Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts/Public art/Cambridge, Massachusetts. I've removed your question and invite you to add to the page as you find helpful. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:26, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay -- Most is certainly sculpture, but everyone can agree on this scope and it matches most of the partial maps I've found which don't differentiate. Warmly, – SJ + 18:31, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sj For sure! I'll try to get around to completing the list of Save Outdoor Sculpture! (Smithsonian Institution) entries soon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:40, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You've asked about example lists. There are not many examples to follow, unfortunately, but here are links to Featured lists under WikiProject Public art:

Also, List of public art in the City of Westminster if a former Featured list (demoted when split into sub-lists by district). However, I think the various lists under "Lists of public art by district" are some of Wikipedia's best re: public art, thanks primarily to User:Ham II. Hope this might help determine the best path forward for List of public art in Cambridge, Massachusetts. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:46, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to you and Ham II :) And a ping to @Krhettn: who may be interested. Yes, something like the tables in Southwark or Metro Manila, with a column for location and a {{GeoGroup}}, is what I had in mind. Using a sorted-table here, not a template, because it's easier to update. – SJ + 22:04, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Table w/ geodata + map for photo walks

[edit]

Geotags would help for photo walks, though some of the tools rely on a list of articles rather than a list of entries in a table. Since we don't have articles about most of these, it might be helpful to make our own custom map. AB pointed me to {{GeoGroup}} which does the trick, for both on-page coords (when in a table) and title coords of linked pages (when linked from entries in a table). – SJ + 00:10, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
