The increasingly discriminatory housing policies in the predominantly black neighborhoods led to a great demographic shift during the 1960’s and 1970’s, contributing to a general influx of wealthy white residents and mass exodus of middle class African-Americans. The increasing costs of housing also decreased the availability of affordable housing, generating further racial tensions citywide. ^[1]
