Two foundations[edit]

The article made it sound like there was only one foundation controlling both Aldi companies. That doesn't seem to be correct - Siepmann foundation owns Aldi Süd, Aldi Nord belongs to Markus foundation. The given cite actually states that there are two different foundations, though it doesn't give the name of the Nord foundation. I didn't find an English cite for the name, but this here has the German sources: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markus-Stiftung. --Stefanmuc (talk) 10:35, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coin for a shopping trolley[edit]

Reading the article, I stumbled over this, quoting: "Another practice at Aldi stores in Europe, Australia and the USA, is requiring a coin, or an Aldi-issued reusable token, to use a shopping trolley. When the coin or token is inserted, the trolley is unlocked from the other trolleys. When the cart is returned, the customer is refunded their coin, effectively costing the customer only the time to return the cart. This is a common practice in some European supermarkets. Likewise when Aldi opened its stores in Australia, coin deposit for trolleys was already commonplace especially in low socio economic areas to counter theft and subsequent repurposing of trolleys by customers"

I wonder if this really belongs into an encyclopedia, especially the absence of a link with coin usage and low socio economic areas. In fact, this is common practice throughout several high GDP European countries, including France and Switzerland (personal experience). Note also that there is no reference. I suggest to remove this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.167.176.194 (talk) 21:29, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In Australia coin operated trolleys (carts) are quite often required by some local councils when granting planning permission for new stores. This is to discourage urban littering by abandoned trolleys.

I think the reference to "lower socioeconomic" issues should be removed. For example I know of a couple of areas which are definitely upper socioeconomic and the local Coles or Woolworths has coin trolleys, for that precise reason. --MichaelGG (talk) 22:40, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think the whole paragraph was daft and I have removed it. It's so unremarkable ... like pointing out that Aldi stores have "doors" which are moveable sections of wall, used to access the interior. And the socioeconomic argument? Nah. Sainsbury in Muswell Hill, anyone?? Best wishes to all DBaK (talk) 00:24, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hedley settlement[edit]

The article says "In April 2000, Aldi UK paid £300,000 in damages ... It is thought the damages paid to Hedley were "six figures"."

Which is it? An exact figure or a "guess"? Huw Powell (talk) 15:16, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's not "damages" if it's an out of court settlement. It is also not notable. Settling out of court does not equate to proven wrongdoing. ScrpIronIV 20:58, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Aldi is investing heavily in online marketing- be on the lookout[edit]

Aldi has been caught making 'grassroots' style topics on Reddit, also known as Astroturfing.

This article reads almost like an advertisement for low cost foods, it should be made more objective focusing on the business and less on the claims that Aldi has low prices.

Article cites Aldi's own website and Aldi's own claims. This article should seriously be revised.

Only people who work for the company would consider spending time on such things, except for little old me, an ex-German. In Germany, Aldi's winning recipe in the 1970s and maybe a little before, was the 'one article - no price label' recipe.

It was the law to have price labels but ALDI argued that when you have only one article of a specific kind with a poster on the wall or a big sign what that costs, you do not need a label. E.g. laundry powder, 5 kg = 11.50 Deutschmarks. There was no other laundry powder for sale, so the price was clear and the government lost the court case.

They checkout women were expected to memorize the prices, which never had a penny value so they were quicker to put in the register. This was also the time when workers had been recruited from Yugoslavia, Spain, Turkey, and North Africa who shopped there predominantly because it was all so much cheaper. I have recently heard from a reliable source that they do not like to take on loans, because then the bank tends to have a say in your business which they resent. They had to send money home and did not make much fuss about products. 2001:8003:A070:7F00:1C5C:E438:BCFA:27 (talk) 04:51, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox logos: position referenced in caption is not guaranteed[edit]

In my browser, the two logos in the company infobox are rendered one above the other. This makes the caption "ALDI Nord (Left), ALDI Süd (Right)" somewhat unhelpful. The relative position of the images in the infobox ultimately depends on the default font size in the browser. If this is considered a problem, then perhaps the images can be combined into a single image for this purpose.

Clearly Template:Infobox company is not designed for this use case where two companies share the same article. 147.147.190.254 (talk) 16:22, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Aldi and Trader Joe's are direct competitors[edit]

The map needs updating[edit]

Aldi has entered new markets and the map has to be updated accordingly. I also want to mention that marking French Guiana as having an Aldi is 100% inaccurate. It is an oversees territory of France but I don't see the point of also marking it blue, it just adds confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1811:3611:2300:F145:6C9B:F18D:255B (talk) 01:17, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ALDI's name is always uppercase[edit]

As this Wiki article states, the company's name is a "syllabic abbreviation" for ALbrecht DIskont.

In all of the company's online and printed documents and advertising, the name is always written with all capital letters, "ALDI." Example: ALDI History (on ALDI US site)

Since the company consistently uses that format, it differs from most other examples of syllabic abbreviation (e.g., Interpol, SoHo Manhattan). For that reason, it should be listed as ALDI throughout this Wiki article as well as the Wiki article's name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SkyCatz (talkcontribs) 04:55, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hofer KG[edit]

In the Geographic distribution section, it mentions that "Hofer KG" is the Aldi group that has stores in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland. Given that the lede says that, Aldi Süd operates in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Switzerland, Australia, China, Italy, Austria and Slovenia, it is clear only upon comparison that Hofer KG is some part of Aldi Süd. Is there a reason that the table is the only mention of Hofer KG and that it is used over Aldi Süd? --Super Goku V (talk) 03:22, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
