References have been blanked?[edit]

I checked the References field and there's nothing there. It doesn't look like the current instances cited are UNTRUE, but merely that they lack citation for one reason or another. It also seems like a polarized topic--I'm seeing a lot of edits in this page's history with the mindset that there is no middle ground. I'll add appropriate messages. Also, there's a broken citation at the top of the "Corporate Malfeasance" section, so if anyone wants to fix it, there's an article detailing the same situation here and it's by a government source too. Wrong/Silly Information[edit]

I don't want to get involved in the discussion of ARAMARK's quality, which is excellent at my school, but the information about ARAMARK's history is simply ridiculous! Biased, practically free advertising, needs additional facts[edit]

I've researched this company and written five opinion columns on it, and by Monday I'll have written six: "What's behind your lunch" parts one through five, and "Aramark is the devil." (Minnesota Daily) This entry needs a lot of additional facts about the scandals which follow this company everywhere. How hard is it to just add references[edit]

I can see feelings run strong on this company. as a Wikipedian, i see an article about a notable business organization that needs more references. If it turns out that there are lots of critical references, on a par with positive or neutral (just the facts maam) refs, then the article will justifiably show where the company is at. but before we have too much debate about where to draw the line, lets get out our chalk and add some lines to the scribble. we can erase or edit as the facts arrive here, but not before. i added some links, not perfect, but should help to flesh out the article. I really think the speedy delete tag should be removed. this isnt that promotional, and could easily be turned into a decent article in minutes. Attempts to Censor its Wikipedia Ethics Section[edit]

Over the Winter of 2018 and into 2019 Aramark has been involved in a scandalous decision to in the very late taxable year cut dramatically 401(k) contributions, as well as defer and then in some cases eliminate manager bonuses. Aramark has also refused to mention how much money it has saved in doing so.

This Ethical section of Aramark's Wikipedia page has been on its Wikipedia page for several years. This section of the Talk page is referring to a user named Airplaneman who has attempted to remove the entire Ethical section of Aramark's Wikipedia website, including well researched, and cited materials, and for years' present information. This type of censorship is absolutely not acceptable, has been documented, will be preserved, and will be fought lock-step until the ultimate determination, at which point major news outlets in Philadelphia and around the nation will be made aware of this attempt at censorship (as well as other more appropriate news outlets). In short, managing editors at Wikipedia will be made aware of these attempts to erase true and accurate information, and the public at large will be made aware of the attempts to censor criticisms of the company's ethics.

Scandal[edit]

Scandals have surrounded Aramark Food Services anywhere you look. From withholding workers' lunch pay, to gender and race discrimination, to even firing a worker for reporting the unsanitary conditions, Aramark has been suffering from lawsuit after lawsuit. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported in 2005 that over 80 students fell ill at once from food poisoning in Illinois. The Center for Disease Control later linked the sickness to taco shells, provided by Aramark, which contained too much of a certain preservative. Early in 2004, a student in St. Louis found a worm in her food. A week later, at a nearby school, 45 students fell ill and 29 of those 45 were taken to the emergency room due to excessive vomiting. The source of the illness was later determined to be old turkey meat provided by Aramark.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Aramark had inflated the number of free meals offered to children within the Houston Independent School District, which meant that the district was forced to pay over $200,000 as a penalty to the state.

Philadelphia's school districts terminated their contract with Aramark only two years into a five year contract. Aramark had promised to help eliminate the deficit that the school district was running. Instead, after one year, the deficit jumped to $4 million and $7 million after two years - an increase of 72 percent. Furthermore, students from across the country have complained of exorbitant prices. Arizona State University recently signed a contract with Aramark, who will increase the price that students must pay for the least expensive meal plan by $650 to $1500 and is not giving the university the opportunity to opt-out. Louisiana Tech University has been in a similar situation, with off-campus and senior-focused meal plans being removed -- thus adding hundreds of dollars to many students' quarterly meal bills.

Besides specific examples, jobs with Aramark constitute more than half of Forbes' 2007 listing of the 25 lowest paying jobs in the country. Because of these incidents, as well as allegations that Aramark is guilty of age and gender discrimination and complaints brought by the National Labor Committee from many regions of the country, a rally was held last November in front of Aramark headquarters in Philadelphia. Since then, at least 25 of workers involved with the rally have been disciplined, demoted or fired.

At many schools students have taken it upon themselves to petition against the persistently increasing prices and disturbing food. When cafeteria workers joined in and signed the petition, Aramark immediately forced them to remove their names from the petition, at risk of job termination otherwise.

At Trent University in Ontario Canada, Aramark limits the number of non-Aramark contracted events to two per year per department. The Indigenous Studies department (was Native Studies - the Equivalent of American Indian Studies in the United States) is limited to two potlucks or events where students or faculty bring food that they or their families have prepared. Given the importance of food and public gatherings in Indigenous contexts this represents a breach of trust and an offense to First Nations students, faculty and general understandings of the importance of collectively organized and maintained gatherings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.42.127.254 (talk) 19:51, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aramark Updates[edit]

As an employee of Aramark's Communications department, I noticed some incorrect/inconsistent and out-dated information on the Aramark entry and went through and updated the entry. The first change made was the name of the company, which is Aramark Corporation and not Aramark Limited. The company's UK division is known as Aramark Limited.

The last financial update of information was 2005, so I updated with the 2009 figures. I also updated the FORTUNE 500 information that was noted, replacing the 2007 figures with the 2009 numbers.

I changed the body of the entry to have three sections - History, Social Responsibility and Conflicts. In the History section, I changed the bullets to text paragraphs. In Social Responsibility, I added four items referencing news articles from recent years. Under Conflicts, I kept all the same information and just added one item referencing the resolution of the company's conflict with the Immokalee Workers.

Aramark Limited[edit]

This entry has a number of items that are incorrect, inaccurate, out-of-date, and inconsistent about the company. First of all, is this entry intended to be about Aramark Limited or the entire Aramark company? Aramark Limited is a subsidiary of Aramark - it makes no sense to have that as the official name. Positive History?[edit]

What’s the basis for the “positive history” section here? Looks an awful lot like interference from Aramark corporate. I’ve never seen corporate another wiki page formatted like this.
