Quality of examples[edit]

It's probably not arithmomania to count ceiling tiles to estimate the size of a room, to count the objects in one's pocket to make sure that all items that one needs are present, or to count the steps to ensure a smooth transition between rapid climbing and walking forward and avoid the "calamity" of falling. Or is it? How would one clarify the article to distinguish these from obsessive counting? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 19:19, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, quite simply, the article needs to be three times its present size, and preferably written by a psychologist (a good one for a change!). Gingermint (talk) 20:21, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably not arithmomania to count ceiling tiles to estimate the size of a room, but probably is to do it for the sake of it, multiple times just to be sure, whether you want to or not. Probably the biggest indicator is whether all the work serves a purpose or not. ZoeB (talk) 09:10, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
