I plan on adding a bit more about the history of CDP (including the significance of the seal on the bottles), then I will go into some detail on the wines themselves. I would not, in general, think it prudent to go as in depth for every wine appellation regarding history. CDP has an exceptional past and one that I think informs the enjoyment of the wine. --BridgeBurner 21:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vineyards[edit]

I have a map of the different vineyards or "lieux-dits" of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Would it in any way be interesting to list them all? Only a few of them have any reputation.--Nwinther (talk) 17:41, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm....I don't know. I think beyond the "LaLa's", there are not that many vineyards in CDP that are recognizable. However, a dream scenario would be if the map was copyleft and could be used as an image in the article but I suspect that is not likely possible. AgneCheese/Wine 02:53, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Guigal's so-called "LaLas" are surely located in Côte-Rôtie? Unlike for the Northern Rhône AOCs, my copy of World Atlas of Wine don't specify lieux dits for Châteuneuf-du-Pape, but only shows where major domaines are situated. I don't really recall seeing the wines specified as "sourced from... famous for giving the most powerful Mourvèdre..." or anything like that. I'd say that it's OK to include a list of them if you have anything to write about each of them, such as soil, particularly successful varieties, or something like that. If it's just a list of names that are almost never seen on bottles, it's less interesting. Tomas e (talk) 11:25, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Doh! You're right. That's what I get for wikying and drinking at the same time. :p AgneCheese/Wine 02:36, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The map itself isn't copyrighted specifically - but the book in it's entirety is, so that's a no-brainer. However, I'm sure the writer didn't measure up the map himself, and surely he got it from somewhere else. Maybe something could be found online. I think it'd be cool to have a picture of the map, as it would not only list the lieux-dist but also visualize chateauneuf as an appellation. I'll put it on my list "to look for", but don't hold your breath.--Nwinther (talk) 11:53, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've been in touch with Søren Gudiksen of Chateauneuf.dk and Michel Blanc of The Federation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine producers syndicates. The latter have given permission to use a map they have of Chateauneuf and all it's Lieux-dits. (I'm trying to get permission to use Søren Gudiksens version of the map, rendered from Michel Blanc's organisations website as it in color and more readable). I think it'd be a nice addition on the article, as it both shows the appellation as a whole, and defines all the lieux-dits, should they somehow become more prominent. I have obtained written permission and the only condition is the mentioning of the Chateauneuf-organizaztion. And since their logo and information is branded on the map, that's a given. However, I'm holding out to get Mr. Gudiksen's permission to use his rendition, so all the paperwork is in order. Fortunately, the man is an althurist and I'm sure it'll be no problem at all.--Nwinther (talk) 20:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WOW....awesome work Nwinther! I thought the map was just going to be wishful thinking. :) AgneCheese/Wine 23:39, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Gudiksen went to France the other day, so It'll be a few days before I get his permission. However, you can see the map here: [1]. Regarding Chateauneuf.dk it's a terrific source on CdP, and I might begin writing something based on that website. His history-section on CdP alone is larger than our entire article!!!--Nwinther (talk) 08:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Got permission from Søren Gudiksen. Beginning the upload now.--Nwinther (talk) 20:46, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is poor style and overly informal to refer to 'getting that characteristic CDP colour'. I have changed it to 'achieving the'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.161.181.76 (talk) 13:12, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
