Bengali vs. Oriya charchari[edit]

Hi Badagnani,

I found that the Oriya charchari contains diced potatoes. The Oriya version can also contain shrimp also. It is cooked in mustard sauce, not fried mustard as in the Bengali version. Obviously it IS different from the Bengali version and I was wrong. Frankly, I was very surprised to find that out. I removed the part that I had added to this article.

Bengali spelling[edit]

Can someone add the Bengali spelling of "charchari"? Badagnani 03:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

did so--ppm 03:11, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name of dish[edit]

Is the dish's name a Bengalization of the English word "char"? Badagnani 03:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

totally doubt that. I am pretty sure it comes from the sound that occurs when one releases watery vegies into hot oil--ppm 03:12, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If someone has a great Bengali dictionary, we could use the actual etymology of this word, when it was first coined, etc. This documentation can't be found on the Internet. Badagnani 21:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
