Following his 4th cap, won in a 4-0 victory over Bulgaria in EURO 2020 qualifiers, Rice revealed he received threats over social media after switching allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to England.<ref>"Declan Rice: West Ham midfielder reveals he received threats after England switch". Why league only? Hundreds of players cup goals have been put on here. Mikeymatt86 (talk) 18:47, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cup goals are recorded in the box at the foot of the page titled 'career stats'. Infobox is ALWAYS league appearances/goals only for all players. 81.96.247.35 (talk) 20:07, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arsenal[edit]

Why do people always change the right info? He’s moved to arsenal already WrexhamAFCManU (talk) 07:54, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

NO HE HASN'T. People always add UNSOURCED content, which is why it gets removed, because Wikipedia requires RELIABLE SOURCES.
If you read the news, you'll see that Rice is not an Arsenal player yet. PeachyBum07 (talk) 08:34, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
yes he is! has been agreed since mid season.

I don't want to edit this because I'm not very good but instead I want you to edit this page. Declan Rice has just joined Arsenal and you still haven't done nothing! Themadridista14 (talk) 20:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where does it say in the news that he has joined Arsenal? Or perhaps he is joining in the coming days, which is why it still says West Ham. PeachyBum07 (talk) 20:43, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Rice faced backlash"[edit]

At least one IP editor has been adding this kind of material for a while now, and it needs to stop, for a number of reasons. First, these edits are obviously poorly formatted, with a bare URL simply thrown in after the reflist. If this stuff is so important, it should be done properly, and doing a citation this way is wrong in many ways.

Second, it's not, as the editor said, properly sourced: "I have clearly attached the source"--no, that source says that two people in 2018 disagreed with Mr. Rice's choice: one man said something, and one man tweeted something. It can never verify the claim that "Rice faced backlash for switching his national allegiances to England. Critics questioned his character after expressing his dream to play for Ireland. Many players, both current and former, openly questioned Rice's character and accused him of betraying his previous declaration to play for Ireland." There's no "critics", there's only two people; there's no "many players"; there's no "both current and former"; there's no betrayal. There's "disappointment", which is an entirely different thing.

In other words, this seems to be a NOTNEWS-y blip on the radar, it's improperly verified, it's poorly written (dangling modifier, unclear modifications, weasel words), and it's improperly formatted. Also pinging User:Michaeldble, who alerted me to the edits. Drmies (talk) 16:30, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

two premier league players criticised rices decision to declare for England which is clearly shown in the article. It is a betrayal, saying it is his dream to play for Ireland, Rob 2 caps off an Irish player and then later go on to declare for England, clearly a betrayal no? 2001:BB6:3999:EB58:80D9:FCD6:F14:651 (talk) 13:22, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or a change of mind as he worked out which was the better team to play for?--Egghead06 (talk) 13:26, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It’s a national team, not something you should be allowed to choose. 2001:BB6:3999:EB58:80D9:FCD6:F14:651 (talk) 14:22, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Declan Rice is world class[edit]

Declan Rice transferred to Arsenal for a hefty £105 million fee, which some deemed too expensive at the time. Fast forward to now, everyone talks about how much of a bargain Rice was, with him dominating the midfield every game and giving Rodri a run for his money. Hajime14 (talk) 17:42, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But sticking with the sources: a statement in the lede to say "He is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world." isn't supported by the BBC source. It is a statement by one retired goalkeeper, during one interview regarding salary negotiations re Rice. The statement above would seem to imply that generally, there is a consensus among a number of reliable sources that he is regarded as such. And that isn't backed up by that one interview. signed, Willondon (talk) 17:09, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
