To which protons do the 4 pKa values correspond?[edit]

Is there some kind of Wikipedia standard?

Space Filling Model is Incorrect[edit]

The space filling model on this page is missing a Hydrogen on the Nitrogen in what I believe is usually called position 6 in purine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.27.203.98 (talk) 15:25, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The space filling model appears to be correct to me. It just depicts a different tautomer than the 2D image (the hydrogen atom is on the other nitrogen atom of the six membered ring). -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:56, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do we know for a fact that this is actually a valid tautomer that occurs in vivo? I have never seen mention of such a thing. In particular, this article doesn't mention it. Every depiction and discussion I have ever seen of this molecule shows the Hydrogen at the location it appears in the 2D image. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.27.203.98 (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the tuatomer that is depicted in the 2D structure is the one I've seen most often too. But I don't know if that's because it really is the predominant form or perhaps it's merely convention. Since the two will rapidly interconvert, and tuatomers are considered the same chemical compound, I don't think it is "wrong" to show either one, but it would certainly be preferable to show the predominant form - and to have equivalent depictions for the 2D and 3D images. So I found a more appropriate image and made the replacement. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:57, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ed, that's great! I might also suggest that the tautomer issue should actually be discussed in the article. This is an aspect of this molecule I'm guessing many people are unaware of, and where better than here to document it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.27.203.98 (talk) 20:14, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
